Fortune Cookies III

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2015
I made these for my son's 4th grade Mandarin class to celebrate Chinese New Year. Everyone loved them. The taste is really good, though they got super crispy the next day. Could be due to how I stored them though. I learned quickly how to shape them and made three at a time. Quick and easy, and I'd make them again.

English Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2015
I do think these were tasty, if a bit dense, however, they do not taste like an English Muffin. They looked perfect, just like you'd expect. However, it tasted more like a biscuit. They weren't bad, just not what I was expecting. Also, they didn't cook up completely on the griddle for me, I had to finish them in the oven so as not to burn the outsides.

Zippy Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2015
This was my first ever attempt at Shepards Pie. I left out the peppers and the curry, as I knew it wouldn't go over around here. I thought it was really tasty, in fact, even saved the left overs and ate every last bite. The kids ate what I served to them at dinner, but said it wouldn't hurt their feelings if I never made it again. Hubs didn't care for it at all. If it were just me, I'd make it again, but since no one else was thrilled, I'll probably skip it.

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Absolutely delicious. We make it every Christmas Eve for our annual reading of 'Twas The Night Before Christmas. It's become a family tradition for us. Made it exactly as listed. Perfection.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2014
Do not used sliced bananas! The texture is unpleasant, very mushy when you bite it. Also, you don't get the banana flavor all the way through. I made it again, and I used 4 bananas that I smashed up and it was perfect. I also didn't have walnuts, so I used pecans. Very good, tasty and delish. Mine took an extra 7 minutes to be cooked through.

Peanut Butter Blossoms

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2014
There is no need to make this recipe so complicated. If you add just a small amount of extra flour, the dough holds together enough to shape without having to wait for it to chill. It does not affect the taste or texture at all. Also, I didn't use baking sheets. I rolled them into balls, dipped in sugar, and put in mini muffin tins with cupcake liners. Then, you don't have to worry about cracking or spreading. I baked in a pre-heated oven for 6 minutes, removed, added the kisses, and baked for an additional 3 minutes. No need to rotate the pans. There is just no need to keep opening the oven. Keep it closed and let them bake. I shaved three minutes off the time as written. Perfection and much easier than the way it's written!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2014
These are quite tasty and moist. I did half white and half brown sugar in the batter, and also added vanilla and cinnamon to it, along with an additional banana. I also added cinnamon to the crumb topping. I will make them again.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2013
Not bad at all. We used peanut butter chips and reeses pieces instead of chocolate chips and nuts, but didn't change the batter. Kids really like them.

Devils Food Cake with Sinful Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2013
It's a little dry. Taste isn't too bad, but I'm not fond of the texture. The kids really like it, so I might make it again for them, but it wouldn't stand up to company. It just isn't a special enough cake. Nothing about it jumps out at you.

Brown Sugar-Caramel Latte

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
I used milk instead of half and half, and Kahlua flavored coffee from my Keuring, since I don't have an espresso machine. Delish!

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
WOW, so very good! First time I ever made pulled pork and it was delish!! I will be making this again for sure! I made a few changes...I did not use the vegetable oil, it seemed unnecessary. I also had only a hot and spicy BBQ sauce in the house, and I didn't want to overwhelm the dish, so I only used half a cup. I also used a whole cup of chicken broth and upped the brown sugar to half a cup. I completely omitted the mustard, as no one in the house likes it, and I don't ever buy it. Small changes, excellent meal! Try it, you won't be sorry!

Donut Muffins

These are very good. I used butter instead of margarine, and I halved the nutmeg, because it seemed overwhelming. I also added some cinnamon to the batter, these were delish.....you won't be sorry if you make these. I got 24 of them, and they are going fast!

McCormick® Vanilla Rich Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2011
Excellent cookies! They are big cookies, with crisp edges and chewy middles, very tasty, I will definitely make them again! I used only 3 teaspoons of vanilla, 4 just seemed like too much. I also left out the nuts, as my family doesn't like them.

Many Meals Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2011
I have made this twice now. First time, I followed the recipe exactly, and it was really good. Second time, I made some additions. I added a bunch of minced garlic, dried oregano, and parsley. Also a liberal splash of worcestershire sauce and about 1/4 cup of beer. Excellent!

English Roast Beef

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2010
We did not care for this at all. We had a 5.4 pound round roast and set it for 2 hours, as the recipe said that would make a rare roast. I pulled it out to check it 20 minutes prior to the timer going off, and it was already medium and on it's way to medium well. Perhaps because I had no Dutch Oven? Had to use a roaster after I seared it on the stove top. But the roast was very bland, the flavors didn't really seep into it at all. Won't be making this one again.

Shmunky's Colby Jack Cheddar Biscuits

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2010
We didn't like these at all. They were very chewy, and the insides took longer to cook than the outside, making for a crunchy exterior. And the taste just wasn't quite "right", though I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about it. We won't be making these again.
