Slow Cooker Pot Roast
GRAVY from a crock pot? Yes! In our family, gravy is its own food group. I was amazed with the flavor and texture of the gravy. The only thing I did after putting everything in the crock pot was to turn the roast over about 3 hours into the cooking process. I made some substitutions based on what was on hand, onion soup mix, beef broth and 1/2 tsp of Kitchen Bouquet instead of gravy mix and Italian dressing. Sorry about the substitutions but I think the onions on the bottom and flouring the roast would make a great base (ie, gravy) for various flavors. The reason I only gave it 4 stars was because it is very salty. My husband likes that but I could not serve it to guests. Conclusion: the method for gravy was great. Look for lower sodium options.

Corn On The Cob (Easy Cleaning and Shucking)
I love, love, love fresh corn. I boiled 5 ears for the family yesterday. They were wonderful. I had one ear left today and tried this microwave method. The silks came out cleanly, but 4 minutes overcooked and dried out the kernels. I don't know if it was the strength of the microwave, the size of the corn, or the missing seasoning; but I'm going back to shuck and boil.

Bill's Sausage Gravy
We had an abundance of onions from the garden and I was including onions in everything I could think of. I added diced onion near the end of browning the sausage, continuing to cook until the onions were translucent. It added a little kick and now I always add onion. This is definitely a family favorite.
