Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
Turned out a bit thin. Next time I'd omit the water and dissolve the cornstarch in the milk. I used fresh brocoli and onion powder. Next time I'd add more broccoli and carrots too to increase the vegetables!

Great directions and great results! I baked mine on a silpat mat. Saving this recipe!

Cream Puffs

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
I wish I wouldn't have been so lazy and would have looked for my mom's recipe for these. First, use a whisk to mix the eggs in - a wooden spoon just did not work. Second, use a silpat mat or something. My cream puffs stuck to the "ungreased cookie sheet" which took the bottoms right off leaving me a boat like shell to fill. I made mine bigger than recommended and they were DONE before the time was up for the smaller size. BUT even after all that, once they were filled they did taste good.

Tenderloin with Spicy Gorgonzola-Pine Nut-Herb Butter

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2010
This was delicious! I had to use Smart Balance "spread" because I was out of unsalted butter. I left out the parsely/garlic b/c I didn't have any and did not add salt/pepper. I thought it was a little "herby" at first but the more I ate, the move I LOVED it! Will definitely be making again!

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2010
Made exactly as written. Delicious! Used granny smith apples. Syrup came out thick and smooth. Will definitely be making again!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2010
I am disappointed in this - esp after how long it took to make. It was just bland and if it wasn't for the fact I had cherries to put on top, I probably would have just thrown it out. This is not how NY cheesecake tastes from my experiences with it growing up out there! It just was not rich at all. If I make it again I'd probably add a lot more cream cheese. Guess my hunt for the perfect cheesecake recipe continues

Tortillas II

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Would definitely cut down on the salt. I used 1 Tbsp unsalted butter instead of shortening. Had to roll extremely thin to get tortillas that were somewhat pliable. Will probably try a different recipe next time or cheat and buy the uncooked tortillas from Costco!

Peanut Butter Bars I

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2010
These were really good and quick! Next time I think I'll add a bit more peanut butter to the base and a bit less peanut butter to the chocolate, but overall great recipe!

Chickpeas in Tomato Sauce With Feta and Wine

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
I used Blue Cheese instead of Feta and tomato sauce instead of chopped tomatoes and I thought the sauce came out great, but next time I'd use less oregano and I would maybe try it over pasta instead of rice.

Blue Cheese Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Scaled down the recipe for only 1/2 lb. ground beef. Didn't have chives so I used a little onion powder instead. Omitted the hot sauce and probably almost doubled the blue cheese. Definitely needs the extra cheese!!!

Hamburger Buns

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
Didn't rise enough even with lots of extra time. Would make a better dinner roll than a hamburger bun because it has a good taste to it, just too dense for a hamburger.

Microwave Baked Apples

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Reduced the nutmeg to 1/2 t so the cinnamon would come through a bit more. Only had to microwave for 2 minutes. Used a granny smith apple and left the skin on. This is a good quick snack!

Super-Simple, Super-Spicy Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
Well this is super spicy with the full Tablespoon of red pepper flakes! I only used half the soy sauce and added broth for the rest. Used olive oil and onion powder in the marinade instead of sliced ones. I can't compare this to authentic mongolian beef because I think I have only ever had ot once but this was good and I'll make it again!

Hummus III

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
this has a really good hummus taste that I am familiar with. Instead of paprika and parsely, I topped mine with fried chickpeas and red pepper flakes. I also left out the salt - didn't miss it at all!

General Tsao's Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2010
I only used cornstarch and egg to make the batter for the chicken. I used Splenda for the sugar and this worked out great. There is NO need for MSG (it's not good for you!!) The sauce was delicious and I love that it coated the chicken the same way as General Tso's chicken is at chinese restaurants. The only down side was that the coating on my chicken lost some of its crunch when I added the saice to the pan. And be careful your pan isn't too hot when you add the sauce to it!!!

Pot Stickers Traditional

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
I have to admit, I thought the filling was going to be bland but it really wasn't at all! I used chicken and powdered onion and ginger in the filling. Used wonton wrappers adn water around the egdes to seal. Crimped them with a fork just to be safe but had no problems with any opening. I used others suggestions and lightly browned them before adding water to the pan and steaming. Delicious! And the dipping sauce is really good. I didn't have chili oil so I used 1/2t srirachi chili sauce instead and it worked great!

Shortbread Cookies IV

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
The cookies have great taste but mine were very fragile. I cut them along the score lines after baking while they were still warm as the recipe suggested and most of them broke :( Next time I'd wait til they were mostly cool and see if that's any more successful.

Vanilla Crepes

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
Easy to make! This was my first time using Madagascar Bourbon real vanilla extract and idk if it was the vanilla or the amount but I felt it was a little overpowering. Will use a little less or artificial vanilla extract next time and see if that makes a difference.

Deb's General Tso's Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
Made exactly as written except used dried ginger in the sauce. This has great taste, I only wish my sauce turned out thicker and maybe a little spicier too. Definitely going to make this again with maybe some slight changes.

Cream of Cauliflower Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
I left out the onions and used onion powder instead. I also used vegetable broth instead of chicken to keep it vegetarian tonight. May make again. My two year old did spit out his candy for more bites of my soup though so that's always a plus!
