Cake Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2012
Great base recipe. We were impatient refrigerate for 1 hour. Meant the dough was a little hard to work with, gooey, but I added a little extra flour and didn’t roll out. Just grabbed spoonfuls, coated in flour so I could touch it, poked a hole in the middle. Left out the cinnamon/sugar/nutmeg in a small portion of dough and added cocoa powder instead to make chocolate ones.

Orange Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2011
Great! Easy to make, might've been even better had I felt up to zesting an orange and had bean sprouts on hand. We used broccoli and green pepper instead, and I added a little ginger since that's often in orange chicken.

Miss Betty's Super Quick Dinner Rolls

Great base for adding any seasoning to match your meal. Very moist, very easy, very fast. I substituted 1 cup flour + 1 1/2 tsp baking powder for self rising flour. No salt.

Chocolate Frosting I

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2010
None of my 5 family members were thrilled with this. Even after the suggested adjustments (less sugar, more cocoa) it was sickeningly sweet. It tasted like putting hershey's syrup on top of cake. It was easy, though, which is why it does get 2.

Raisin Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
Great texture. The definitely looked different than the typical oatmeal cookie, but tasted great. Perfect amount of sweetness for me. I used butter instead of shortening b/c we don't do trans fats. I also cut the salt in half to make it lower sodium

Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
I gave it 4 b/c it was so easy. Not the absolute best I've ever had - I did as another reviewer suggested: 2c powdered sugar, but I found I needed 3/4 c butter. And a splash of milk, only 1/2 tsp vanilla.

Banana Boats

Done in 15 mins in the toaster oven. I added whipped cream after it was done. I actually like them better at home. Over a campfire you get that fire taste.

Plain Cake Doughnuts

Very easy to do - 3 minutes was too much, burnt ours, start with shorter time. And they need a topping desperately - I used butter, powdered sugar, and milk. Or for chocolate ones, melted milk chocolate with milk.

Louisiana Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
Best pot roast recipe I've tried so far. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, just perusing the ingredients, but it came out wonderful. My mom likened it to almost having bar-b-cue. HOWEVER - I didn't follow recipe to the letter. The biggest change I made? I used a crockpot. I pulled roast out of the freezer, browned it in a skillet while still frozen, and dumped it in the crockpot, then piled the ingredients on it. I didn't have red wine vinegar, so I used balsamic vinegar instead. It cooked for 7 hours or so, first few hours on high, then on low.

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
Wonderful Brownie recipe! Incredibly simple, great that it uses cocoa powder instead of bar chocolate. Wary of messing with a new recipe too much, but also not wanting chocolate 'cake' brownies, I took the flower down to 1 1/4 cups. That's the only thing I did different. Cooked 25 minutes in a glass 9X13 pan. Perfect taste - not too strong.

Best Brownies

These were terrific! Gooey. I doubled the recipe and used a 9X12 pan. I was doubtful I'd like the frosting b/c I hate honey, but you can't hardly taste that honey aftertaste when its in the frosting on the brownies. We undercooked ours a tad, made for a wonderfully gooey mess! After trying quick and easy brownie recipe on here, I took this down a star, b/c those are even better!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

The only reason these don't get 5 stars is because they don't taste quite like bakeries make them, in my opinion. but they are easy to make - and terrific! Chewy in the middle, crispy around the outside. I think the butter in the recipe is what makes them so much better than most other recipes.

Jiffy Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
This definitely delivers fast, great cinnamon rolls. I never think about these the night before, so baking powder recipe is ideal. I actually like these better than yeast dough rolls - these come out cakey, crumbly. And I love the ease of making these in a muffin/cupcake pan
