Apple Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
This recipe is amazing! My only problem was that the bars came out more cake-like than dense bars. They tasted amazing though! I substituted the walnuts for pecans and my husband and I ate them with butter pecan ice cream.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
My husband and I did this recipe with our own modifications and it was amazing! My husband mainly did the cooking, and after adding a couple more jalepenos and his own hot sauce, renamed it "Dante's Inferno Chili". He was proud of himself. Any chili that is simple enough for a my husband to cook and still come out tasting awesome, is a very good recipe!!

Huli Huli Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2012
I used this recipe with chicken breast instead of whole chicken (only because it's what I had - I'm sure this is super delicious with bone-in!). I didn't use sherry wine nor the substitute (I didn't have anything close), used spicy mustard instead of dry mustard, and ginger paste instead of fresh ginger. Aside from all those substitutions, the chicken came out pretty good! It wasn't glazed but that was probably because there was no skin. I put the rest of the marinade in a small sauce pan and cooked it over low heat as a sauce/glaze.

"Pantry Raid" Chicken Enchilada Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
My husband wasn't the biggest fan so I've been working on it since I made it. I would have added more cooked onions and peppers and spread out the corn bread a bit more.

Salisbury Steak with Mushrooms

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
Ahh! Where has this recipe been all my life?! I've always loved salisbury steak but always had the frozen kind. I didn't know I could make it from scratch! And to my surprise it tasted just like I remember! Thank you for making the recipe simple to follow! Regardless of what my husband thinks, this recipe will be a household staple, if just for me! I skipped the mushrooms because of my husband. It would have been even more amazing with them, but this still was a homerun dish!

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2012
I didn't put the coffee in but did add some crushed pepper flakes. I used a different cut of pork. It came out sooo succulent and flavorful!! My husband gave it an A, which is hard to come by! We'll be making it this way in the future!!

Firecracker Flank Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2012
I really like the salsa component this recipe added. We didn't have a Pace salsa, but we did have Mrs. Renfro's ghost chili salsa :). (My husband loves spice!) That provided a real nice, subtle heat to the marinade/sauce. My two-lb. flank steak took much longer to cook than I excpected. This is probably because my husband likes his well-done and I'm pregnant and can't have anything but well-done. Other than that, it came out nice and juicy with full flavor!

Puppy Chow I

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
This was easy to follow! I used the suggestions of not adding as much powdered sugar (used 3/4 of the 1 lb. bag) and it was just right. I also used crunchy pb (that's all I had) and it made the puppy chow seem like candy. The husband LOVED it!

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
Ahh! I wish I would have read the comments closer before making this! I agree with seasoning the veggies before adding them and doubling the sauce! I also would have mixed the veggies/chicken with the sauce so that they could really mix. So I made another batch of sauce to add on top, but other than that, great recipe! Easy to follow and all in all this came out delicious!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2012
I've never made rolls before (or used yeast outside of a bread machine) so I think providing directions for those who don't have a bread machine would be really helpful. I tried to go with the directions in the reviews but everyone did things a little differently. One thing that worried me was that after an hour, I don't think my bread rose as much as it should have. I didn't have to punch it down at all. Now I'm worried that the rolls will come out dense. Was this possibly because the yeast didn't fully activate? Not happy...

Cajun Roasted Pork Loin

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2012
Used a pork tender loin with this recipe. Consquently, there wasn't a great amount of fat after cooking outside of the oil added with the onions, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Next time I'll change up the seasoning portions a bit, but otherwise a very good recipe!

Buffalo Chicken and Roasted Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2013
I used Frank's Hot Sauce and Turkey bacon to make it a bit healthier. My husband is not a cheese fan (sympathy accepted!) so it was a bit dry. No doubt cheese and sour cream would have made this 100% better, but it was definitely a winner as it was!

Baked BBQ Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2014
It was easy to put together, the ingredients were already on hand and the meatballs came out juicy, tender and flavorful! Instead of making my own sauce I put two bottled ones together (cheating, I know!) with a little bit of added brown sugar. Will be making this again and again!

Tomatillo Salsa Verde

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
I've made tomatillo sauce before but broiled the tomatillos in the oven. This way was MUCH faster! The ingredients compliment each other so nicely. I served it over roasted pork tenderloin. What was nice was I found another tomatillo in the fridge after the sauce had already been simmering and after a few minutes, it soon softened enough to blend after I added it. Great sauce!

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2014
My "sauce" ended up very watery which made the chops taste pretty bland. I think marinating the chops ahead of time is the way to go and will do so next time. I really like the flavors in the sauce but wouldn't do this recipe again.
