Too Much Chocolate Cake
I used this recipe to make a dinosaur-shaped cake for my son's second birthday. I followed the recipe exactly, except that I used mini semisweet chocolate chips. It came out beautifully. Making the cake was the simple part. I baked one day, iced the next, and served on the third. Everyone loved the flavor, including my 2-year-old. I will make this again, though I think I'll choose a less labor-intensive preparation.

Pumpkin Cookies V
I made this recipe as listed, with the addition of a bit of allspice. I didn't like the cookies, though others who tried them seemed to enjoy them. Maybe they were just being nice? First, I had trouble getting these cookies baked enough to set. (Perhaps I should have used a teaspoon to drop the cookies and not a tablespoon.) The first two batches were still gooey when cooled. Increasing the baking time to 16 minutes at least made the cookie hold its shape, though I still had to be careful with them. The result looked nice, but the mouth-feel was overy oily and the taste was much too sweet. I won't make these again; they weren't worth the calories.

Gloomy Day Smoothie
I love nearly anything mango, so I had to try this smoothie. I made this with the following modifications: I didn't have vanilla yogurt so I used my plain, homemade yogurt with a dash of vanilla extract and some splenda. I only used half of the banana, because I just don't like the banana flavor that much. I used frozen mango. I also added a Tablespoon of soy protein powder. The taste was good--slightly tart in a good way. However, I felt that the orange juice overpowered the mango. Perhaps it's because I used the Trop50 orange juice sweetened with stevia. I'll definately try this again and halve the amount of orange juice. I also plan to freeze my half banana in future, and maybe toss in a few ice cubes, because I like my smoothies really cold. A great breakfast on the run!
