Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2014
This is an excellent cake. A good from scratch cake that I have never had fail. I would suggest, if it's to your liking, to use an espresso for the coffee and Kahlua in place of the vanilla. To the one with the meh ratings, and they are all over the internet, you never like anything. I ignore your ratings.

Blueberry Cream Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2013
I followed the recipe exactly, and they were wonderful. It makes a larger batch and since I have 8 children and 16 Grandchildren, it was perfect! Thanks for a great recipe.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2013
I liked it, but it was extremely think, similar to cookie dough. I added about 1/2 Cup of milk, and also added 2 tsp. of cinnamon to the batter. They turned out fine. I really think the flour needs to be reduced, or just add milk. They were nice big muffins. I might leave off the topping next time, and just sprinkle lightly with cinnamon sugar. Will make these again.

Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2012
I loved this recipe and so did everyone else. I have to say it was good, but I think it would've been been great if I had the correct ingredients on hand. I had no sherry, so used red wine, had no oyster sauce so added extra water and an extra teaspoon of Guava Nectar, as we were out of sugar. I had no ginger root so used powdered ginger. Had leftover precooked garlic roast that was cooked rare, very thin sliced. I did add 1 onion also. Then used half cauliflower and half broccoli, as we did not have enough of either. In spite of all those crazy changes, it was still really good! Can't wait to try it with the right ingredients!!!

Sour Cream Pumpkin Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2011
I am planing on making this cake again, but this time with less sugar. It was also a bit dryer than I thought it would be from the reviews, which makes me thing I need to make the cake again. All of you can't be wrong. Mainly I thought it was a bit too sweet. It is a beautiful looking cake too, loved the orange glaze, but may leave out the Streusel.

World's Greatest Vegetable Broth

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2011
Excellent! Are the turnips used to kind of replace potatoes? Also I think if I can find them, Rutabaga would be good to add, or to replace the turnips with. They are a bit sweeter than turnips. Also if you puree the vegetables , they make a great addition to meatloaf or meatballs.

Seattle Dutch Babies

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2011
Loved this! Fast and easy. My VERY picky grandson who never eats more than a few bites of anything, asked for and ate seconds! I served it with a Blueberry sauce made by adding 1 cup of Maple Syrup and 1 1/2 Cups of Frozen Blueberries and bringing it to a boil over med/low heat, and boiled it for a minute or two. It was a Hit!

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2011
I have made this cake for years, and it is Perfect! I never buy boxed chocolate cakes mixes, haven't since I first made this cake. My only changes are, I use hot coffee in place of the water and Kahlua in place of the vanilla in both the cake and the frosting. Best Chocolate Cake Ever!

Fresh Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
This is THE new family recipe for Rhubarb Pie! It is perfect, and no soggy bottom crust! I will probably be trying this technique on other fruit pies. It worked beautifully! The things I changed were, I used 6 cups of Rhubarb. I always use 6 cups of fruit for my fruit pies, as I like a fuller pie. I used 1/2 sugar and 1/2 granulated 0 calorie sweetener together equaling 1 1/3 cop as suggested for 4 C. Rhubarb, (as we like tart pies) and used 1/3 Cup +1 Tbls Flour because of the extra fruit. I like a tart fruit pie. Did everything else just the same. You should try this recipe. We will be using this ALWAYS! Thank you Carol for sharing your Mom's wonderful recipe!

Garlic Prime Rib

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2010
I used this recipe for the first time last Christmas. I had never attempted Prime Rib. Sounded expensive and scary. Saw this recipe and thought, I can do that. It was easy and turned out perfect! It has become a new Christmas dinner tradition. We had a lovely, stress free dinner that was something to remember. Prime rib is expensive, but by the time you buy the ingredients for a turkey or ham dinner with all the trimmings, the Prime Rib may come out cheaper. It was no more expensive for sure. I wish Norman Rockwell was still around. It would make a lovely traditional family portrait starring the Prime Rib. It was a beautiful thing! Thank You Chef Mike!

Brown Rice and Chicken Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
It was okay. It would have been better with broccoli instead of green beans.(With that change you would use a different soup.)The flavor was okay too. I like dill, maybe some people don't. Some of the ratings baffle me. They made So Many changes, they weren't even making the same casserole. If I make it again, I will change some things. At least give a recipe a chance before you make sweeping changes and give it a bad rating. Maybe your changes are what messed it up. Just a thought.
