Baba Ghanoush

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
Mmm delicious! The taste of tahini, lemon juice, and garlic are already amazing. Now add smokey, roasted eggplant and it's to die for. This particular recipe is good except it has a little too much lemon juice.

Thai Cashew Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2012
The original is a little too peanut buttery so I cut it down to just a spoonful, about 1Tbsp. In addition to a little toasted sesame oil and the cashews it had a nice nutty flavor. I didn't have fish sauce but I did have cod liver oil, so in went about a teaspoon of that, at the end of course (CLO is very sensitive to heat). It tasted great. All the flavors blended together nicely and made one nice big umami flavor. Thanks for sharing your tasty recipe.

Cream Cheesy Cubed Zucchini with Lemon and Oregano

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2012
The recipe as stated is delicious. But since I love the flavors of lemon with cream I doubled the lemon zest from 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp. You could even add more if you like lemon. With 1/2 tsp the lemon is very subtle. Such a simple but delicious side dish. Thank you, Chef John.

Gingerbread Boys

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2011
These are difficult to roll out. The flavor is really good but it needs more ginger and at least 3 Tbsp real molasses instead of 2 Tbsp corn syrup to make it more like gingerbread. Overall I wouldn't throw the recipe away because it tastes great. But I would use a different recipe if you want to use cookie cutters.

Oatmeal Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
Perfect cookie with soft middle and crispy edges! For those having problems with rock-hard cookies, THE SECRET TO PERFECT COOKIES is the butter! You cannot use oil or any other liquidy substitutes for the butter. It needs to be butter that is softened, not melted. Cream it with the sugar and eggs well so that it gets a little fluffy, do NOT add too much flour (too little is better than too much), and that's the secret to perfect cookies. For anyone wondering about the sugar, yes you can reduce it. I used 1 1/2 cups of rapadura/sucanat (whole-cane sugar) and that is plenty sweet.

Bake Sale Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2011
1 1/2 cups sugar?! These lemon bars are not very balanced, all I taste is sugar... Do NOT make original recipe. This is not a good recipe. Sorry :( I made GourmetMommy's version and they were much better. I think most people will find them to be balanced. But a warning to those who have re-trained their dessert palettes (for health reasons), her recipe is still too much sugar for you. If you are into more health-foods, follow GourmetMommy's recipe and cut back on the sugar so it's only 1 cup. (If you are not used to eating a lot of sugar this will be a good amount for you... it will be sweet enough!)

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
Wonderful sauce. Reminiscent of Hoisen sauce. I believe it needs more ginger and garlic than called for; but then again, I think nearly every recipe needs more ginger and/or garlic. I'm a big fan of ginger & garlic. ;-] Additionally I added about 3 tablespoons of fresh orange juice.

West African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2011
I made it pretty much as is. Except I added African "pepper", which is like cayenne pepper. It definitely needed it, in addition to the red pepper flakes, for my taste. I threw the onions, garlic, and bell peppers in the food processor and it was finely chopped within a few seconds. I used virgin coconut and red palm oils. I recommend using a natural peanut butter: which is just peanuts and salt. It tastes (and looks) like a spicy, savory peanut sauce, not unlike what you would find in a Chinese restaurant with duck. I can imagine it would be nice with a roasted chicken thigh.

Cilantro-Lime Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2010
This was way too much honey for me. Next time I'll only use a spoonful. The flavors were great though--salty, sweet, sour, and spicy!

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
Really yummy. I pumped up the spices with lots of thyme, sage, 8 peppercorns, 1 allspice berry, a pinch of cinnamon and tumeric, and blended it all up nicely with an immersion blender. I served it with a dollop of yogurt which was SO yummy.
