About this Cook
I'm a newlywed who loves to cook, and I just love having my own kitchen! I live in Germany where my husband is from, and we enjoy lots of dark grainy breads, local cheeses and sausages, and since we are in the wine region, we are blessed with good local wine.
My favorite things to cook
I've transitioned from desserts and baking into more health-conscious cooking. Although baking will always be my first, smoldering love!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't really have any cooking traditions. :( I learned to cook for myself as a child through TV and experimentation.
My cooking triumphs
When I was 16 I made this humungous chocolate cake for my boyfriend's grandmother's birthday. Everyone really enjoyed it and was amazed that it was so huge.
My cooking tragedies
One time I made a really nasty birthday cake with whole wheat flour, because I was trying to be more health conscious. After the first bite everyone just looked at each other, grimaced, and burst out laughing. Including me. Then recently, I tried to make my first strawberry cake in my mother-in-law's kitchen. Something must have gone terribly wrong because it didn't rise at all. It was as heavy as cast iron when it was done. My mother-in-law dusted it with a little powdered sugar to try and cheer me up. That was so cute. But it was definitely the worst cake failure I've ever had.

Baba Ghanoush
Mmm delicious! The taste of tahini, lemon juice, and garlic are already amazing. Now add smokey, roasted eggplant and it's to die for. This particular recipe is good except it has a little too much lemon juice.

Thai Cashew Chicken
The original is a little too peanut buttery so I cut it down to just a spoonful, about 1Tbsp. In addition to a little toasted sesame oil and the cashews it had a nice nutty flavor. I didn't have fish sauce but I did have cod liver oil, so in went about a teaspoon of that, at the end of course (CLO is very sensitive to heat). It tasted great. All the flavors blended together nicely and made one nice big umami flavor. Thanks for sharing your tasty recipe.

Cream Cheesy Cubed Zucchini with Lemon and Oregano
The recipe as stated is delicious. But since I love the flavors of lemon with cream I doubled the lemon zest from 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp. You could even add more if you like lemon. With 1/2 tsp the lemon is very subtle. Such a simple but delicious side dish. Thank you, Chef John.
