Day 2

Hopefully if you are reading this blog, you have already read my day 1, which of course was quite eventful.

I opened my eyes and finally got to take in how beautiful the Washington Athletic Club really was, the room was typical of one you would find in a small boutique or spa hotel.  The colours of the room were so relaxing, and perfect to unwind in after a hectic day.  Nice toiletries in the bathroom, although it did take me 30 minutes and eventually a call to reception before I found the hairdryer!  I also know that one of our AR friends had a few problems getting the lights on too!  We really did have so much fun!  The view from the window was of downtown with the water as the backdrop.  Could not have asked for anything better! Thank you AR.

I was in the Elevator first thing in the morning when I actually got to meet mysweetcreations ~ Kelly (I often sit there drooling, looking at her photos) and also got the chance to meet her beautiful daughter.  She really is the most sweetest girl ever.

So day two started with another day of hugs from all those wonderful all-stars! Followed by a scrumptious breakfast at the AR offices and I mean totally scrumptious.  We had orange juice, Coffee and a too die for selection of the biggest muffins I have ever seen, hot sandwiches, fruit and yogurt ~ I was too busy munching my way through the muffins to worry about the yogurts!!!!

After breakfast the day began with a presentation, it was so wonderful to hear what an important role the Ambassadors plays within AR.  It really did make you feel so special, the presentations were also both fun and interactive.

Oh I forgot to mention our Orange AR Goodie bags! Filled with some neat little items and a raffle ticket, which we could use to try and win a selection of prices including a gorgeous red stand mixer!  I know some of the All-stars came away with some wonderful prizes.  I did have envy for the gorgeous red blender that was won!

We then split into smaller groups to go behind the scenes of AR.  Where we learned about the culture, goals and what it takes to run the site. We talked about Videos. PR, International Sites to name just a few of the topics. One of the things I found the most fascinating was that AR was actually asking us for our input and opinions.  It was wonderful to share some of the joys and frustrations we find with the site and of course to learn about what we could expect for the future.  Oh I am so excited already!!!

I was invited to join four of the most wonderful ladies for lunch.  I was so grateful to them for taking me under their wing and hope that this was the first of many get togethers.  Staci, Cindy Lepp, Amanda (Oh and I nearly forgot Amanda’s boyfriend ~ Tim) and the other English Girl, Pelecangal (Janet).  We had a wonderful lunch at steelhead diner along with a few laughs and even a little bit of gossip.

We have a little free time in the evening before the party, so my lunch buddies and I decided to try out the liquid refreshments in the hotel bar!  I was at a loss what to do the next day.  I know I needed to do some sightseeing but a little unsure exactly what to do.  In the elevator going up to the room and I get chatting to Mrsfisher0729 (Adawndria) and she invites me to join her and her friend on a Chocolate Indulgence walking tour the following day.  Oh my goodness, did she really say Chocolate, CHOCOLATE.  Now I know exactly how I am going to spend my day.  I run along the corridor to my room. Fire up the I-pad and luckily get my place on the walking tour.  I just know I am going to be in chocolate heaven.  So I thought to myself, seen as the day was going to be all about my little luxuries I would start it off with a trip to the hotel spa!!! ~ Role on tomorrow, I’m like a kid waiting for Santa Claus!!!!

The evening of Day 2 was of course the All Recipes 15th Birthday party (the main reason for our trip).  A lot more hugs. Just could not stop hugging Baking nana (Penny), feels like I have been reading her blogs forever.  More hugs from Mrsfisher0729 (Adawndria), Bibi (Brenda), jrbaker (Jennifer B), Mauigirl (Julie), Magnolia Blossom (Lora), Marianne, Paula, Baker B (Sarah K) although I am pretty sure that I hugged most of the people there!  I was just so in awe finally getting to meet everyone.

The party was so much fun, great food and drink.  More opportunity to talk to the AR employees and of course hang out with the All-stars!  We had so much fun dressing up and acting silly so that we could get the moving picture books made.

The party finished pretty early in the evening, far to early to go to bed, especially when there was an Irish bar in town!  Cannot beat a good Irish bar with live music.  I sat totally mesmerized watching Cindy Lepp on the dance floor, she was absolutely amazing.  Who would have thought this lady could dance as well as she cooks.  After that display there was absolutely no way I was hitting the dance floor with my own two left feet! Although I was pretty good at being a wallflower.  Quite a few drinks later and its time to retire to bed for the night.

So day two is over, another exhausting day but once again so much fun, fun, fun!!!!

And guess what? yes that’s right.  We get to do it all over again tomorrow!!!!

To be continued…

GDERR ~ I got to hear so much about your Southern Roundups, they sound a crazy blast. I just clicked straight away with those Southern girls, not sure what it was. It all started by me sitting next to Amanda for a few minutes and we started to chat. I just loved them all. I was so lucky to also spend some time with Jim (Staci's Husband and also Tim ~ Amanda's boyfriend). Both really great guys, although I think its time Tim put a nice sparkly ring on Amanda's finger. She really is the most sweetest girl!!! You are so right, Staci has the most gorgeous Southern accent and I just loved to hear her talk. Cindy is just Cindy, such a kind heart. I have wanted to meet Cindy for the most longest of time and so thrilled that I finally got the chance. Do I sound like Palicangal?, I will let the wonderful funny Jan answer that question. I am so envious of Jan living that close to the ocean!!!! You are going to have the most amazing Southern Roundup ~ have fun!!!

Thanks for posting, apple.strudel. It's so hard for me to put everything in words. I'm reading everyone's blog, nodding and smiling, sometimes laughing out loud, hoping to keep these memories bright! There is one thing we didn't do, and I wish we had. Friday morning, I wish we could have introduced ourselves to the group. So many I wanted to meet and missed! So many I did meet and wished we lived in the same town! Thanks to all for the great blogs and pictures, and thanks to AR for making it happen!

I had to laugh out loud when I read your comment on the hair dryer. The same thing happened to me! It was itty, bitty, teeny tiny! Steelhead Diner is the best isn't it? We enjoyed it so much on our first trip to Seattle that we had to go back this time. Great post!

About Me
A little about me, I am a wife and Mum of two gorgeous boys aged 17 and 23, and now mummy to two adorable English Cocker Spaniel puppies named Brie and Henri. We have been living in the US now for 5 years. (You will also see me on allrecipes.co.uk - AR's UK site). I guess like most other European’s I don’t eat to live, but live to eat!!! One of my great passions in life is food. Good home cooked, fresh produce. Especially if it is sourced locally. I truly believe that it is so important at the end of the day for a family to sit down and eat a home cooked dinner together. I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen now, which always amuses my husband. A few years back we had a small public house and restaurant in the Derbyshire Countryside (England). Never once would I venture in the kitchen. With all those professionals there was certainly no need for an amateur! Should you wish you can contact me at thebritishbaker@mail.com
My favorite things to cook
More than anything I adore baking. Cakes, Cookies (or biscuits as they are known to me) and my latest love is baking bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Some of my earlier memories are sitting at my Grandma’s kitchen table in England, watching her bake. She insisted on having to bake a fresh cake everyday. My Grandad was a big cake fan, and a cake always had to be kept in the pantry just in case a visitor should call. Not that you could move in the pantry for more sugar, flour and butter then any village store. (Just in case food rationing ever came back). Unfortunately my Grandma has recently passed away, but her passion for baking will always live on through me and I hope that in time my baking skill will do her justice.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that actually turns out how it is supposed too!!!
My cooking tragedies
Oh my goodness where do I start, like everyone I have had the usual tragedies, sponge cakes that have sunk in the middle, over cooked pie crusts, bread that has just failed to rise but I can thankfully say with a little patience and practice I am finaly getting better!!!
