The road to Seattle ~ Day 1 ~ All-stars visit 2012.

So the last few days have been the Allrecipe’s  all-star trip to Seattle, and what a wonderful but tiring trip we have had…
Day 1

Firstly I began to think I was not ever going to get there.  Its like drama just likes to come on any trip with me.  Firstly this time as it was just a short visit I decided I would park my park at O’Hare rather than take the usual limo.  So the night before (I know, talk about last minute) I decided to book car parking at the airport.  As I didn't know the company I decided to pay via paypal thought that was safer than actually entering my credit card (I’m totally obsessed about credit Freud), anyway I had a paypal receipt but no email confirmation.  The next morning when I woke at 5am there was still no confirmation (now I’m starting to panic), so rather than turn up and hope for the best I decided to call reservations, it sounded like I had woken the representative up and dragged her out of bed, spent most of our conversation yawning! Any way as it turned out due to a computer glitch my space had not been reserved and basically there was nothing they could do for me now. Teaches me to try and save money!!!

So I took my chances and found a space at the airport, so at least the day was not going too bad.  Because of my panic over parking the car I was at O’Hare a good 3.5 hours before my flight (This British girl is obsessed with Punctuality).

Needless to say I checked in, battled everyone through security and did a little shopping. Stopped off a chili’s for a few early morning Margaritas (Starting as I meant to go on) which were excellent even at 9am (must have been 5 O clock somewhere!!!  When I eventually made it to the gate (or was that staggered to the gate) the flight had been delayed for 3 hours, storms in New York!  Oh well I guess when you get given lemons you make lemonade right? So it was no biggey it just meant an extra 3 hours of Margarita time ~ lol.

Anyway we eventually touched down in Seattle the time is now 4:30 pm and I am running around the airport like a woman possessed.  I have to be at the AR offices in downtown at 5pm for a cocktail meet and great, with other All-star Ambassadors, and AR Employees.  So much for my plan of having a leisure afternoon in the hotel to pamper myself before I met my fellow food-addicts.   I finally found the shared transport that had been booked for me but the wait was 30 minutes, wow no time for that, so I hopped in a taxi.  I know so much for saving money, but no way I could be late!!!

So I arrived at 5pm at the AR offices looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards, in my clothes since 5am and lugging my huge suitcase.  The moment you walk out of that elevator, all the panic of the day just goes away.  I am here at AR where all the magic happens, to be greeted by so many smiling faces and finally meet all those cooks that have been talking to me and giving me advice and of course sharing much laughter and even the occasional tears for many, many months was like a dream come true.  They really are the All-stars J

the food was delicious, but I'm sure anything that was cooked in the AR test kitchen would be fantastic anyway!!!  Oh boy, I think I had to pinch my self so many times, YES I am in actual AR the test kitchen!!!

The party was only until 7pm, and I had still yet to check in to the hotel, as I am about to leave when Maui girl (Julie) tells me that a few people are taking a boat trip, to see the Seattle Skyline form the water.  It leaves in 20 minutes and I still have my case towing behind me. Not one to ever want to miss out on fun.  I run to the hotel (Ok, so anyone who has seen me knows I can't run ~ But it was a fast walk) up the hill to the hotel and thrust my case on the nice bellhop. In reception I meet Paul (Yes, The Paula ~ can you believe it???) anyway I talk her in to coming on the trip with myself and Occasional Cooker (Michele F.).  We jump in a taxi the three of us and just make the ferry.  I mean literally just made the ferry.

So we are walking around this big old boat and I don't see any of the faces from our AR group.  Oops look likes we took the wrong boat, there was a choice of two!  I get on my cell phone and finally get hold of the wonderful Maui girl and they had missed the Ferry!!! That’s a story I will let Julie share with you in her blog.

The three of us are on a boat, have no idea where I'm going but the view is stunning.  We arrive at the other side about 60 minutes later (which I later find is Bremerton) and on the way back we see the gorgeous Latinacook (Wilnellys).  OMG she has the most gorgeous accent ever!

What a day.  It was long and tiring but totally fantastic.  I finally checked into the Washington Athletic Club where we are staying one very tired but happy girl!
And best of all, we do it all again tomorrow.
To be continuted….

Our trip out went exactly as it should, no delays, no troubles. However, my daughter and I were with Mauigirl as we arrived after a 15 block near jog to the ferry terminal just to watch it pulling away! Great trip all the way around, despite the mishaps!

About Me
A little about me, I am a wife and Mum of two gorgeous boys aged 18 and 23, and now mummy to two adorable English Cocker Spaniel puppies named Brie and Henri. We have been living in the US now for 5 years. (You will also see me on - AR's UK site). I guess like most other European’s I don’t eat to live, but live to eat!!! One of my great passions in life is food. Good home cooked, fresh produce. Especially if it is sourced locally. I truly believe that it is so important at the end of the day for a family to sit down and eat a home cooked dinner together. I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen now, which always amuses my husband. A few years back we had a small public house and restaurant in the Derbyshire Countryside (England). Never once would I venture in the kitchen. With all those professionals there was certainly no need for an amateur! Should you wish you can contact me at
My favorite things to cook
More than anything I adore baking. Cakes, Cookies (or biscuits as they are known to me) and my latest love is baking bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Some of my earlier memories are sitting at my Grandma’s kitchen table in England, watching her bake. She insisted on having to bake a fresh cake everyday. My Grandad was a big cake fan, and a cake always had to be kept in the pantry just in case a visitor should call. Not that you could move in the pantry for more sugar, flour and butter then any village store. (Just in case food rationing ever came back). Unfortunately my Grandma has recently passed away, but her passion for baking will always live on through me and I hope that in time my baking skill will do her justice.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that actually turns out how it is supposed too!!!
My cooking tragedies
Oh my goodness where do I start, like everyone I have had the usual tragedies, sponge cakes that have sunk in the middle, over cooked pie crusts, bread that has just failed to rise but I can thankfully say with a little patience and practice I am finaly getting better!!!
