I am sure like me you love Allrecipes, of course if you didn’t you would not be on this site now and certainly not reading my blog.

I have only been a member for just over a year, but have a recipe box that contains over 2000 recipes (who knows if in my lifetime I will ever get around to cooking them all).  I now have 750 photos of my creations and it’s given me a love of photography that I never knew existed.  I have had so much fun writing blogs and more than anything I love answering posts on the buzz.  The site has put me in touch with so many like-minded people and I am hoping to meet two of those cooks later on this year.

But if you were running allrecipes for the day and able to make a couple of changes what would you choose to do, if anything???

I have thought about this question for a little while and I think my two things would be:

I would love a way to communicate with other cooks, maybe a type of instant message system.  Allrecipes.uk has a fridge where you post notes for other cooks who are signed up as your friends.

I am sure there are many people like me who read lots of blogs but don’t always leave a comment wouldn’t it be fun to view just how many people actually view our blog page.  Maybe it would be a little boost to inspire us to keep writing them!

Those are a couple of my ideas, can’t wait to hear what you would do?

AS, don't really know at this moment what I would do. I'll have to think on it and get back with you. I love this site! I've gotten to know several people and got really good recipes. I love to chat with people too. I guess you can say this is my "sweet spot"; place to come to about anything

Thank you for your comments luv2cook ~ I think the instant message would be my favorite idea. I would love to see something like that on this site. Anything that makes contacting other cooks so much easier. Although to be honest, it may mean that I become even more addicted to AR...

A way to contact cooks directly. Sometimes I don't want everyone to know what I am trying to get ahold of a specific person about. I guess they would have to accept your request first like facebook does. And, I would hope that would be private also. I would like to be able to have recipes in my main box and folder separately. If I delete it from the main box, I don't want it to be deleted from the folder. I like my main box to just be recipes I plan to try try in a week or two. It gets to be overwhelming when even 100 or so recipes are in the main box. And, I guess the last thing I think the photo voting is a "joke!" The same 5 or so people are ahead of everyone else by 50 or more votes by early morning. If you log out and log back in you can vote for yourself all day! So, for those who play by the rules, it is really not fair. So, I would prefer to go by the Canadian format and have everyones photos from the day before to scroll through. I like to see what everyone is making. And, the front page is important for that.

I agree with so much that you say Baker Bee ~ I must admit I do vote for the photos even though its the same cooks that win everyday. I just don't see why people would cheat and like to give them the benefit of the doubt after all there food always looks gorgeous. I really would love to see a message service on here similar to face book, it really would make keeping in touch with other cooks so much more easier...

Aloha Applestrudel, I agree with the instant messaging thing between members. The other thing I would like is screening of IP addresses. I know that some of the hijinks that have happened and caused hurt feelings would be cut down drastically if folks could not make up multiple personalities. It seems so bizarre to me that "adults" would participate in that kind of thing.....but the internet occasionally brings out the worst in a few folks. Thanks for posting:)

I would love to see the way the rating system as we now know it CHANGED! I would like to see a box to check if you followed the recipe, and another one if you made changes according to family preferences or food on hand. On the Australian AR site, they rate like that!

i love this site. i've met so many terrific, good-hearted, supporting folks here. i guess 1 way to improve this site would be to improve on the recipe selection time. i submitted a couple...still in limbo...that's cool. i just will not submit any others. very aggravating process. those folks are deluged with recipe submissions, so i hold no hard feelings. the folks like yourself, that use the buzz and the blog feature make it the great place it is. rock on apple!

I thought at one time if it would divide the ratings up into subjects, so we would know what people are rating. A score for: ease, appearance, taste.... The score is semi-vagure right now. Some people say they love a recipe and vote it low and others critisize the whole thing and vote it high. So, it gets kind of confusing?

I totally understand that they are inundated with recipes but it does get rather frustrating when you are waiting to see if it gets published. Baker Bee ~ what you are suggesting does happen on the UK site. First of all you confirm that you have actually made the recipe and then you state the score for ease and then make your comment.

This whole idea is good except that you do not break down the ingredients by gram weight. ALSO, how do we know which recipes contain hydrogenated oil, and other ingredients dangerous to our health?

To further extend the discussion on values, foods should be broken down into nutritional value such as sodium, cholesterol, carbohydrates, etc. Does anyone do that?

Hi Applestrudel! I like your ideas and everyone else's here too. I don't really know what else I would change except maybe have a different tab for all of the OT stuff? It doesn't bother me at all but I know it has been a sore subject in the past. I wish they would go back to the old way with photos and lose the voting thing too. Speaking of, I rarely every vote anymore like I used to BUT I saw your beautiful cookies posted yesterday and made a point to go vote for them this morning. Did "Mr. Darcy" help make them? Lol! I So love your mixer's names and I also love all of the flowers and greenery you use in your pictures. It's a real nice personal touch. Anyway, basically I just wanted to drop in and say hi. Love the site. One wish (which is just because I am likely lazy or disorganized) is when you add a recipe to your recipe box, if the recipe has already been added it would tell you. Instead of Recipe successfully added, tell you that you had previously added. The IM factor would be so helpful if you are making a recipe w/ ingredients or methods you aren't familiar with using.

I don't even understand the blogs. I didn't realize people subscribe to blogs? I just added you to cooks I like, so I could get back to this easily without remembering your name! I have to manuver this site the best I can. Another strange one I thought of is a way to separate the photos into categories. Some I want on my profile, but others I just want on their for myself. Like when I made bread the other day I took pics of the steps of what it was supposed to look like as it turned out. But, I don't think a bowl of dough, etc. is a pic I want on my profile. I usually only put final photos on there.

I didn't know there was categories on UK site for doing ratings. I myself have had trouble getting to those sites. It always brings me back to this one. Same with the section on low cal/low fat for some reason. If so many things work on the Canadian and UK site with the things we have been discussing, I wonder why ours is different in respect to the photo voting or rating recipes?

Good evening,apple.strudel, all day I thought about this blog. Baker Bee has so many neat ideas and I'm afraid after the coffee kicked in I still have nothing original to add but I wish there was a place to thank cooks who took the time to submit an approved recipe that I've looked at and gotten ideas from. Just like this morning, looked at a recipe, used what I had on hand, everyone loved it but I can't rate their recipe cause I didn't use theirs just the "idea" and similar ingredients.

Baker Bee ~ I am not sure if subscribing to blogs is something for just supporting members you would need to take a look, I use the feature to make it easier to find the blogs I like. DIRECTIONS go into the blog you like, on the left hand side is the list previous blogs, just above is the yellow subscribe to blog button.

great blog - i like your ideas and i would like to see a feature where you could respond to someone's comment quickly; such as the "like" button on facebook. a smiley or thumbs up icon would be a good visual to show that you agree with someone's comment.

I have only personal recipes in my box, and the reason for this is so that others can access them easily. I print recipes to try, rather than save. It is my biggest wish to be able to access others personal recipes rather than go thru page after page of saved recipes in their boxes...makes it very hard. I think we should be able to search by the cook's name, or have a separate folder searchable for everyone's personal recipes. :)

I would make organizing the recipe box easier. For instance, clicking on several recipes and then just dragging them to a subfolder. Would also allow the user to easily manipulate a shopping list. For instance, if I already have the item, I can then delete it off the list. Love this site!!!

Peggy, AR used to have that feature. It made organizing so much easier. I wish so much that they'd go back to that feature! I haven't had an organized recipe box since they upgraded to the new system.

I like Sarah's idea of being able to find peoples personal recipes easier. I would also like it if when someone asks for a recipe I could have my "rated recipes" in some type of categories. It takes forever to scroll through them to find a recipe that fits someone's request. It gets time consuming when you rated 300+ recipes. I try to mainly recommend recipes I have tried. It helps that you can find them by rating or how helpful they are, but food categories would make it even quicker. Even for when I am looking for a recipe I have made. I keep returning, because I think of more things or would like to see what other people have to say. It is good to have it in a blog, instead of everyone griping on the buzz, where I don't think anyone is listening to requests. Excellent topic!

I'd like to have more recipe sorting options in my recipe box. It would be nice to be able to pull up only my own personal recipes without having to sort by type and then scroll through all the personal recipes of everyone else I've saved. I definitely agree with Peggy and Citrus Punch about making the recipe box easier to organize and reintegrating some of the old features. And I also agree with the idea of a private messaging feature. Trying to get hold of someone in the Recipe Buzz is like standing in the middle of a crowded farmers' market and shouting names! :)

Sorry Apple.strudel I am back! - I would like to see the (sugar grams)not just the carbohydrates in recipes and the (% of saturated fat) not just the grams. I am not sure if supporting members get to see more nutritional information? I clicked on the plus sign to see more, but I never see those ones, which are important to know.

AS, and others, there is a way to get the "type" of recipes grouped, so that if you want to see all of someone's personal recipes, or all of their custom ones in one grouping, albeit among many groupings, you can. Go to their recipe box, click show all recipes, then click on the "type" column heading. If you want the groupings to show in reverse order, click again. For instance in AS's if I click on type, the first grouping listed is "Custom Recipes"...showing all the recipes AS has customized. If I click on "type" again, it begins with a "weblink" grouping. At the end of the weblink grouping I come across her posted/shared personal recipes.

I would definately like to see two categories of ratings - one for tweaked recipes with a rating and one where the recipe was followed as is. I know none of us rarely follow a recipe to the letter, however, when rating a recipe I think it is only fair to stick as closely as possible to the original first.

I would enjoy an associated email...like Flickr does, so that members ("supporting" or not) could send a note to one another. It might be heavily used at first, and then become more manageable, as far as additional traffic load on the servers.

My changes would be #1. The ability to contact any other person on AR directly. There have been so many times I would have liked to ask the submitter a question about a recipe. #2. Stop cluttering the site by duplicating recipes already posted and slapping a sponsored by .... on it. #3 I would devise a way of quickly sorting personal recipes. If I look in your recipe box, after I've sorted to personal recipes I still have to wade through all the other cooks' personal recipes, which you have saved, to find yours. It is very frustrating. This is a terrific blog topic!

If I could add anything, it would be a way for cooks who alter recipes to be allergy free to find each other - I have a severe dairy allergy, and some of my favorite recipes are from this site and altered to include non-dairy friendly ingredients. I'd love to be able to share!

Aunt Zibba ~ An approved recipe is one that is approved by AR, personal recipe could be one that has been submitted but not approved yet or simply one that we keep ourselves but willing to share with others (which would not have been submitted to AR for approval. When you submit a recipe to AR it can be quite a long process as they have so many recipes to review.

Congratulations on the listing of top blogs! Too funny Kathy - There is a ton of those pics on facebook. What is up with that, esp. among age 11-17. I don't ever remember taking pics like that, actually ever! Anyway, freezermama most people don't follow recipe to a T for reasons. Mine are I can't afford to run to the store money or time wise when I have very similar ingredients in the house. And, I always try to make some recipes lighter so my husband can eat them. And, certain recipes look delicious minus one or two ingredients. It would be difficult to make many recipes. However, if there was a button to click to say I made this exactly or I made changes to suit me and it could be categorized that would be neat to. We were talking about this earlier how some people change basically every ingredient and then trash the recipe. That is so wrong. I would like a way to attach recipes on the buzz without actually going to the recipe. If the buzz recognized a recipe and could pull it up by name. I would like the same thing for my rated recipes to type the name in and have it pull it up.

I would disallow voting 4/5 stars and then stating you changed major parts of the recipe. The same with low stars when they didn't follow the recipe. Seems foolish. Would also love to see a way of easily marking foods we can't have so they aren't part of the recipe we are searching for. Granted it would be too hard to do for everything but major allergies (peanut, shellfish) or foods not eaten for religious purposes such as pork. When signing up we could check off the food that don't contain box. Maybe not feasible but it is a thought.

I'm not sure how many of you cooks out there are also technical professionals - either developers or otherwise - but if I were in charge for a week what I'd be preaching is collaboration and time saving features. A mobile version of this product is oh so necessary. Ourgroceries.com has the right simple idea - so buy them out - that's what I'd do. Next I'd go heavy up on the collaboration. Instant messaging, group discussions, collaboration on recipes - I've seen darned much feedback but it would be much, much better if it were easier to collaborate on these types of things. Also I've noticed that the foreign language sites - I tend to look at the German one since I speak both languages well - but I'm going to check out Argentina and Mexico's as well - I tend to find they have great recipes. I really wish they would have made the site multinational from the beginning instead of giving each country its own site. I think we miss something by not sharing. Also I would enable the ability to share the historical and cultural context of recipes. Food is all about people, history, contexts and some of it is not only fascinating but ads to the color. Also I think we're a bit excuse me - but "light" on the diet and specialty needs recipes - very sad. The US of A is a very obese country - we need more of these types of recipes. Also "Cooking School" would be a good idea - teach us HOW to cook and then give us recipes. More videos would be oh so excellent - how about letting members upload their videos too? How about a bulk foods collaboration vehicle - I've heard of groups that do this - buy veggies and other produce i bulk. What a boon it would be to tie the produce to the recipes and to area places that support the bulk buying. Breaking bulk gives people wonderful cheap alternatives in these very tough days. How about some kind of volunteer / donation food service so we can take a recipe - make the food - donate it to a charity for an upcoming event - and then maybe they can give us feedback as our reward so we know what recipes went over well. How about guest commentaries and interviews with people from the CIA (Culinary Institute of America), how about Le Cordon Bleu? How about famous guest chefs who could donate their recipes to this collection and then maybe donate a video to show us how. How about a recipe contest where everyone chips in a couple of bucks and we donate to a women's or children's charity - you could use PayPal to help facilitate - and I'm sure they might even forgo their fees. Those are some of the things I would do on my first week in charge. How about you?

Wow...those were some terrific ideas from dfwenigma! I hope the people who run allrecipes are reading all of these wonderful suggestions. I just joined last week, so I don't have much to offer as far as new suggestions. I am very impressed with the site, the iPad app, and the iPhone app. I think the spinning options on the apps are a bit confusing. Maybe I'll get more used to the idea. Also, I made a recipe on the ipad, but when i searched for it on the iphone, i couldn't find it. I may just need to get more used to how everything is set up. I have started following one cook on the website and already have been disappointed when I realized I couldn't contact that person and say how I agreed with their customization of a recipe. You know--we women are always wanting to reach out and connect.

A.S. Excellent blog, I agree with all of these ideas and only would love to change the recipe box a bit. That if you had already put a recipe in there, it Told you so! What about the fact of your unfiled recipes? I did not put all of those to my box in one day, but if I go to File them, they all get the same 'date' and not when it went in the box initially. Get me? One other thing. If I see a blog,say on page 3 and I post on it, there is no way to get to the rest of the blogs on that page unless I go back to page 1 and starting over, unless I want to hit the back button. Then never sure if my comments will get posted or not. Maybe a 'resume' tab on the bottom of the blog that takes you back to where you left off. Thanks again:)

DFWENIGMA ~ wow some excellent suggestions there. i know there is an iphone app as I have this myself but to be honest I prefer the buzz side of this site and the blogs ratehr than a recipe spinner. I do also agree that it would have been easier to have one international site rather than many smaller sites. The rating system. For instance, I tried a pie the other that was a SEMI SWEET chocolate pie, but was given low ratings due to reviewers saying it 'wasn't sweet enough'. I'm glad I decided to ignore the star rating, because it was amazing. Maybe a rating breakdown, also including 'I made this as written', and 'I made with changes'.

I haven't had the time to read everyone's comments yet, but I noted a few thoughts that were in sync with lots of people. By that I mean, the rating system. It's unfair - too many times. People try their best to share with others, and then someone comes on and gives it "1 star" because they didn't like it - and if you read what they said, it doesn't make sense! I've been cooking for about 40 years now, and I'm considered by many of my friends and family to be a great cook, but that doesn't give me the "right" to put someone down! If you read further into some people's complaints, it's quite obvious they do not know how to cook at all. Well, we all have to start somewhere; none of us were born with the knowledge to boil water (!), but please try to be kind! With that in mind, I'm suggesting some sort of "basic skills course" - not sure how it would work, but let's try it out! I don't know how others cook, but for me, I can tell, just by reading a recipe, how it would most likely wind up! For example, I think most people would agree that if you want to make a good salad dressing, the correct proportion of an oil (olive, canola, walnut, et al) to an acid (vinegar, citrus juice, others) would be 2:1. That is, for 3/4 cup of salad dressing, add 1/2 cup oil to 1/4 cup of an acidic-based compound. You can then alter the seasonings and preparations accordingly (and to cut the calories in half, use a 1:1 ratio). SO, if you're reading a recipe for salad dressing, and something doesn't "read correctly", please don't "slam" the person with only 1 star! If you're truly inexperienced in cooking, say so! I think an IM system would be amazing, as I am just staring to cook (wellllll, just starting to cook things for fun, that is) and I always have a question I need answered by an experienced cook. My godmother and my aunt aren't always around, so I ask google, blogs, and anything and one I can think of my questions, and sometimes it works and sometimes I end up giving the failure to my dog, who is indiscriminant. I would also, (If I wee running this place) make the organization of recipes easier, say, more like e-mail. I would be able to sen the recipes to others, and when i put them in a folder, THEY GO THERE, no just hang around in the big file. I would also add an option for "find recipes that would go well with.....(steak, lemon bundt cake, etc. what ever you want) as a ....(side dish, main dish, desseret, appetizer, snack, lunch, breakfast, dinner, etc.)" and it would give you a list. I would just increase specialization, so that you can get what you want with minimal hassle after initial set up, and you could ban certain ingredietns, like, have a 'looking for me" tab, so that you could ban, say, all recipes including mushrooms and/or olives, or what ever from your search results, and then have a "looking for....(husband, sister, frined...(friend would have a list of peoples names that you could pick from, witht heri own allergies and dislikes banned) and so on.)" and then you would never EVER have to find a recipe that you fall in love with, only to read the ingredients and find that you can't have it at all. I hate that. a lot. like, majorly much much. you get the picture. You would be able to specialize it so that you would only find recipes relevant to your current search, for your current purpose, that day. I know, sometimes you just want to look around, so you could have "just cruising" button that would take all presets off for your searches and looking around until you pressed another button. I don't know, that's what I would do.

Okay, I just thought about this after a post today. Slapping a corporate name on a private person's recipe is just weird! If it is my recipe for spaghetti. I don't want it being reposted to say I used such and such sauce. I may hate that brand. It is strange to unknowlingly agree to endorse products that you may not agree with or you feel may change the recipe. Why can't the corporations submit their own recipes?

Just thought of another one: I agree with chorty-chef on something. How often on the buzz do we see questions of what do I serve such and such with? When I purchase something on-line lets say a lamp. It says you may also like this table, mirror, art....It basically helps me to know what would go good with what. If I made a German steak it would be neat for recommendations on the side for suggestions such as serve with spaetzel, this german salad....I don't know how hard that would be to do? But, the stores recommend suggestions for everything you choose. Sometimes I pick out a great recipe from someone on the buzz but then I am stumped on sides. And, those are what usually stretch the meal. Thanks, again.

Okay, one more! Yes I am being OCD about this. But, I wish there were a recipe rating format: Basically an explanation of what a review might consist of? I am tired of seeing recipes with 5 stars and then one person gives it a 1 star and says: "This is disgusting!," "This made me want to throw up," "One word gross," "Just nasty," etc. Yes, these are ones I have actually read. Or, on the other spectrum ones that say, "looks great, I will make!" "Yummy." If I never made the recipe my review wouldn't go through. It should be obvious they did not make it. The thing that is most irritating of the reviews that say "will make" give it a 1 star rating. In the scheme of life none of these things are obviously a big deal. But, I guess this blog is about this, so it is okay. :)

I'd remove and ban all recipes that include cans of condensed soup, packets of dried soup, or any kind of store-bought, pre-made, pre-packaged food.

Okay, I HAVE A REALLY IMPORTANT ONE!!! - Under somewhere easy to find an entire section for KIDS! They can have their own recipes, own chats, and own recipe ratings. I "love" kids, but their reviews are awkward most of the time, or have low ratings. They get on the buzz and other than a few exceptions stir up people. Quite a few have recipes and pictures on line displying them as their own. Please, understand I am not saying that "ALL" kids do not have integrity or are not supervised! But, it takes time for them to learn things that it took us years. I think that most of the recipes are over their heads. Therefore, they copy and paste a lot of things, so that they can join in on the conversations, etc. I believe AR has a recipe section for them. But, I would prefer if it was through enough that they can chat, rate, and have peers similar in cooking level, etc. as them. In the real world we are not too often separated. But, because there is no requirement to list their age, sometimes I don't know what to think of the threads that kids have been on. HERE A COUPLE EXAMPLES I REMEMBER CLEARLY: One little girl once asked for cake recipe. I checked back and she had one suggestion for a: Better than Sex Cake! Other times the little ones are missunderstood on the buzz for their questions and not crediting sources. And, many people will start arguing with the poster, and not even realize they arguing with a kid! One got really heated and there were some nasty words. The thread was deleted thank goodness! In some cases the kids need to be supported and helped. But, it is hard, because many of us don't even realize that we might be having an adult conversation with an 8 year old!

Okay, one last thing I promise again! - I want to be able to search for "cooks" other ways then going to the internet and doing a keyword search on google/yahoo. I have friends who add profiles. They give me their screen name and I can not find them. I do a keyword search on google, but it takes awhile for it to come up as searchable. I want to be able to type a cooks name like I can a recipe and come up with possible answers. Even more important imo then my last post!!!

We do all need to try and encourage our children to cook and having an area especially for them may offer a little encouragement in the right direction. I would love an easier way to search for cooks, had a problem trying to find a few myself in the past.

jennontheisland ~ I feel that would be a little too harsh, we are all experienced at different levels and I feel this site should be free to cater to all levels and tastes. There are times when we all need quick meals for our busy lives and even though I am not a fan of those foods myself some times needs must!

On the photo voting page - I would prefer to see the name of the recipe bolded over the submitter when looking at the foods.

I would also like for the photo voting page - If AR would require that a person have a profile and be logged in to vote for photos. It is the only way to stop cheating through multiple voting. It is not the only way that people are winning. I am proof of that as I had one photo on there before. However, a person could keep voting if they log in and out or delete their browsing history. Just in case any of you are interested in knocking out other daily cheaters!

To be honest I never understand why anyone would cheat to be on the front page, lets face it its not as though we win a new shiny car... Still can't get my head around the fact that people would lower their own principes enough to cheat.. Crazy!!!

They can do it by: (deleting their browsing history) to if logging in and out doesn't work. I believe that would fix that to. Seems simple to require people to have a log-in and be required to do a log in before saying reviews are helpful, voting on the photo page, etc. It would stop a lot of the problems. Keeping them honest.

I didn't mean to repeat myself. I just meant requiring "logging in" before doing anything on the site would really be beneficial. To review a recipe a person has to be "logged in" it should be that way for all aspects of the site. Its not like it costs anything to have a basic membership.

I would love to see some easily searchable collections of recipes for different food allergies. Also, no more insulting people by posting reviews that say, "This recipes was great, but only because I changed it," or "this recipes was horrible, even though I changed multiple ingredients and steps."

Don't get me wrong I like that I was able to find and print recipes for years without ever having a profile or a log in. But, if aspects are added to the site that allow a person to annoymously do things on the site, clear their computer, and then annonymously come back on doesn't seem right imo. Now, that the site has moved beyond looking up and printing recipes. Safeguards are needed. To say someone is the most popular: photo submitter, recipe reviewer...does not make any sense in this case!

I mostly love AllRecipes because of the recipe search format: they let you specify what ingredients you DON'T want, for me that is the nasty cheeses, yogurts, mayonnaise, and other such grossness. I don't like "branded" recipes, either. Most major brands are too heavily processed and loaded with preservatives and a kakazillion kinds of sodium for my family, and it's just advertising. We eat as clean and whole as possible....

I think you should be able to search recipes based on what you have to cook with. "1 lb ground beef, tomato sauce, lasagna noodles" and view the recipes that show up with those ingredients. I hate having to run out to the store to buy all the ingredients when I have so much I need to use in my cupboard/fridge already!

Hello, my name is not Nicole - At the very top of the page is the bolded word in blue: "More" then go to "Advanced Search" then after that you will get to a page you can search for recipes by ingredients by typing them in and then clicking "go." Hope this helps!

I kinda wish that all of the 'pointers' on how to cheat had not been posted. I mean, it's fine that you know how, BB, but putting that info out there might not be the right thing to do. I also disagree with the concept of a Buzz for kids to chat on. Who would police that?? You never know exactly who it is you are dealing with on the internet. People download photos, and it is almost automatic that people believe what they 'see'. Dangerous, that.

Hey, Carrie - I asked my husband this morning. I told him it didn't make sense how photos had 50 plus votes by 8am. Or, people become the most helpful reviewers in a day on a recipe. He knows everything about computers. He does it for a living. He is a computer engineer. It is a topic brought up on here all the time. If you don't log in and keep deleting your browsing history you can do anything on here. But, I am only mentioning this because all of the arguments would stop if it was required to log in. Deleting the browsing history wouldn't over-ride that feature.

It's common knowledge on here. Except whenever I asked everyone they would say I don't want to reveal it on the buzz. So, I finally asked someone else. My husband said anyone would know that. Hopefully, there will be changes to make it "fair" for everyone on here.

AS - Thank you for this wonderful blog! My day of running AR would start with their test kitchen - sampling everything they were making with a great cup of Seattle coffee! Then I'd get to work. #1 IM is the obvious change we all want. . . #2 When we put a recipe in our folders it should tell us if it's already there and leave the date as the original date we selected the recipe. #3 Search should be available in the Buzz and on My Menus. Also, a search for Cooks. Trying to find a recipe, cook or ingredient should be easier. #4 Do away with the photo voting and go back to when the photos rotated. Everyone gets to be front page! #5 Symbols or words on every recipe if it is low salt, low carb, low fat, diabetic friendly, etc. #6 Thank you AR for the new Menu feature - I love it - especially when it adds up the calories etc for the entire meal! But I do want to print the menu for the week in the kitchen so everyone knows "what's for dinner". #7 I'd like to see the names of the recipes on the menu view - now you see the Title of the menu, # of meals, # of recipes, tags and date revised. I have to open each menu to see what recipes are in each one. #8 Love the new feature in Menus that allow you to find recipes to match - either in your own RB or within AR. I've used it several times and get wonderful ideas of what to serve with a main dish. . .I'd love to see this feature on each recipe not just within the menu planning. #9 I agree with BB, I'd like to see the name of the recipe not the submitter on the recipe photo voting pages. #10 Eliminate Ask a Question and just leave as Request a Recipe on the Buzz. Haven't read through all the responses here, but when I customize a recipe, I would be like to be able to add my own tag. For instance; Thai, Chinese, Indian. The only choices now are Mexican or other ethnic. I also have problem with the rating system, but like to read other cooks additions, changes etc. I love this site and have so many fabulous recipes.

This might seem kinda lame, but I would love a way to tag a recipe with the date(s) I made it and maybe a notes section to remind myself what I served it with and any ways in which I made the recipe differently or to whom I served it. Some weeks I struggle with too much variety -- always going for new recipes instead of returning to favorites, because I love to cook and read and such, but really this means we never get to have a yummy meal again. I don't want to make it the very next week and burn out on it, but I'd love to search by 4-5 star personal ratings that I made two months ago. And, then, on the flip side, sometimes I struggle with too much repetition, so the dates would be nice for that, too. Would also help in finding seasonal-friendly meals since I typically try to cook what's in season. In general, the date/diary concept is just fun to see what you've cooked and when.

I agree on the rating system - it certainly leaves a lot to be desired. At times the original recipe isn't even recognizable after the 'tweaks' and it still garners five stars! I'd also like to see an enhanced 'search'. The search results should be more like Google in that it asks 'did you mean' when I didn't spell something exactly correct!

I would like an option to get only homemade recipes or premade food in it. Very frustrating for me when I am trying to find a cake recipe and most of them are "1 pkg of cake mix". :( Don't want to take them off completely...since some people like to use them. Not judging ;) I also would like to have something pop up if I have already added the recipe....THAT would be a BIG help!!!

I would allow the picture to be changed on my posted pancake recipe back to the one I uploaded. It's awfully cute to commission someone to prepare the foods in order for them to look great, but in this case, the picture is misleading and AllRecipes is not letting me default back to my picture!

Having worked with another site, I'm actually pretty satisfied with this one. I would like a personalized ingredient data base where I can enter my own ingredients and their nutrition values and a summary of the recipes with my tweaked values. A note system would be very nice too. I really like the way personal recipes are done here otherwise.

Why can't allrecipes just have an open forum like so many other websites? From HSN to amazon to food.com, they ALL have forums! The lack of a forum is the sole reason why I haven't become a premium member here.

Hi Baker Bee!! I'll admit: I'm one of those people who have rated a recipe without trying it first!! (Please refer to one of your posts on February 17.) However, I was "kind" about it, and right now, I won't name the recipe, because I don't want to hurt the author's feelings. What happened was this: people were complaining about a recipe, and just like you mentioned, were being very vocal in their reactions ('this was awful', 'terrible', et al). It was very obvious to me there was a serious error in the original recipe; again, at times I can tell if a recipe is going to work or not by just reading the ingredient's list (please see my initial post here, dated on February 17, at 8:41). I was only trying to help, since at the same time one has to realize that people spend MONEY and TIME when they're cooking for their families! I gave it 4 stars, because I liked the "idea" of the recipe, but I knew if I were to make it as it was posted, it would have been a disaster! Yet, I also stated I WOULD make it, if "the following" ingredients and/or methods were adjusted and/or altered. I hope I'm making sense here!! However, I think we can both agree on this: people simply should not be rude, but I don't think there's any way to stop that - not on this site, and not in life!!! Oh, and to Elderberrybaby - that's a good idea, an "open forum" - great! I'm still testing this site out, and that's why I'm not even a "supporting member" yet! ~Take care now, Lauren

So many great suggestions here! I would definitely make it possible for members to message each other. Of course, you'd have the ability to turn that feature on or off, as not everyone would want to participate. Or instead of having it go to your email, it could work like Facebook - you'd see a little icon telling you there are 3 messages waiting... I'd definitely improve recipe submissions. They must have millions waiting to be reviewed. I'd make personal recipes searchable. I'd make members login to vote for photos, accepting only one per account name. If that were the case, they'd monitor it on THEIR end which could cut down on photo cheating. Better yet, I'd get rid of the voting altogether and allow all photos a chance to rotate through the front page photo slots. So many great photos don't make it because of the cheating. I'd make the review system look more like the other countries' sites. You'd have to state that you actually MADE the recipe, then you'd tell if you tweaked it. This is a great site, but needs some changes to keep up with the times. Allrecipes staff says they're listening to us, but I'm not seeing the changes so many of us have requested. Thanks for a great blog!

Has anyone noticed the last couple of days for the favorite photos, the winning photo has has thousands of votes? Someone has figured out how to clear cookies in their web browsers and vote over and over and over again. Not fun anymore!

I would like to be able to easily get to someone's personal recipe. When I think to get the recipe I have to dig through my rated recipes or their page to find it. I wouldn't even care if it was separate from the main search. Like, if I could type in someones name somehow and get their personal recipes. Oh, AcaCandy this is from a Hacker website. Don't click on their pics or anything. This is in a league of its own. They have been on the site for at least a couple of days. Everyone is trying not to bring attention to it as the hackers were mocking the ladies the other day on the buzz. They used the holiday weekend to get away with it. AR will probably take care of it on Tuesday. A few extra votes might be what you mentioned thousands is a hacker. Everyone has known for years, except me who has recently found out about simple voter manipulation, because of the lack of log-in required, unfortunately.

My recipe box too is expanding, although at a slightly lower rater. I think the instant messenger thing would be fab. Btw love your shortbread pics. I need a new camera and so no photo's for now. I can't believe how much I like taking pics of food I have made. My sister and I want to make a family recipe book with pictures and family stories to pass on to our kids. It is turning out to be quite fun. ~V

A little about me, I am a wife and Mum of two gorgeous boys aged 18 and 23, and now mummy to two adorable English Cocker Spaniel puppies named Brie and Henri. Some of my earlier memories are sitting at my Grandma’s kitchen table in England, watching her bake. She insisted on having to bake a fresh cake everyday. My Grandad was a big cake fan, and a cake always had to be kept in the pantry just in case a visitor should call. Not that you could move in the pantry for more sugar, flour and butter then any village store. (Just in case food rationing ever came back). Unfortunately my Grandma has recently passed away, but her passion for baking will always live on through me and I hope that in time my baking skill will do her justice.

My cooking tragedies
Oh my goodness where do I start, like everyone I have had the usual tragedies, sponge cakes that have sunk in the middle, over cooked pie crusts, bread that has just failed to rise but I can thankfully say with a little patience and practice I am finaly getting better!!!
