I really started to cook when I got together with my current boyfriend 3 years ago. I could do the basics before and was quite the baker. I've improved quite a bit and now do a lot of cooking by the seat of my pants.
My favorite things to cook
I love new things. I'm always on here searching for new recipes. I love to make mexican food. I like asian. Stir fry is wonderful. I also LOVE to bake things like cookies, cakes and the like.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking by the seat of your pants. My mom was a firm believer in that and I watched as she never measured hardly anything and just cooked dinner. She always made dinner, mostly from scratch and always tasty. She learned from her mother who was a professional cook in people's homes. I admire both of them.
My cooking triumphs
Making my boyfriend say THIS IS GOOD. He told me almost everything I make is good(everyone has thier flops) but it's really when he takes a bite and looks at me with that OMG look in his eyes and goes back for seconds. The other triumph I have is being a "Cookie Guru" like my mom. She taught me how to make the best homemade cookies and to have them come out perfect every time.
My cooking tragedies
Probably the worst was when I was a teenager I was going to make tea. I put the kettle on and went out side for a moment to get something out of the garage. I got waylaid by my parents and we talked and talked. I forgot about the kettle. When we went back in no one noticed anything until we heard "tinging" Mom and I went into the kitchen and the kettle had boiled dry...and the enamel had melted to the burner. We cooled it but the burner and the kettle were meant for the trash bin....it was awful and she still teases me about it. I've never done anything like that again.
