About this Cook
Cooking is my passion, aside from taking care of my family, it is my favorite activity. Everyone says I missed my calling...should have been a chef. Oh well. I love all types of food and love trying new recipes on my family and friends. I have been collecting recipes for 25+ years, but I am rather new to this website.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. My cakes are "famous"..at least with my family! :) But I love to cook just about everything and will try anything...at least once!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade potato soup on Christmas eve, slow-cooker brisket for Christmas dinner (it is insanely good). Everyone has their favorite cakes for their birthdays for me to bake.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering yeast! Had lots of flat, hard wads of dough. Man, was that frustrating. But, now...I'm a pro. ha ha ha
My cooking tragedies
Did you read cooking triumphs?! My saddest tragedy was my first attempt to make homemade Babka for my husband at Easter. I killed the yeast, the thing ended up about an inch tall, hard and flat. UGH! Years ago, I made an onion pie that was totally inedible, just awful. To this day, I can't figure that out...sounded good on paper! Oh well.

Whipped Sweet Potato Casserole
Made this as written, for Thanksgiving. Everyone loved it! It was the only dish that had no leftovers, it was eaten up! This will be my recipe for Sweet Potatoes, and I not waiting for Thanksgiving to make it again. Yummy!

Oven Brown Rice
As written, I can see why others found this dish so salty. So,I took the advice from others and I substituted 2T olive oil for the butter, used fresh garlic instead of garlic salt and added just a dash of seasoned salt. I also used low sodium broths. Simple ingredients with yummy results!
