About this Cook
Veteran of the U.S. Army, writer, day-dreamer, philosopher, cynic, realist, humanist, agnostic. I enjoy a wide variety of music, movies, literature, and, of course, cooking. I consider myself a kitchen mad scientist.
My favorite things to cook
Steak of any kind, burgers, brats, chicken, pork...I'm more of a main dish kind of guy, but I can make some mean asparagus.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am my family's cooking traditions. Self-taught.
My cooking triumphs
Not to sound cocky, but everything I've tried to make has turned out fantastic (not according to me, according to the people I've served). My favorite thing to cook is this marinated pork and apples, love making it, love eating it. Rum soaked apples taste great.
My cooking tragedies
...first attempt at making my own bbq sauce (about a week ago from 8/26/2011) and it turned out poorly...(at least in my opinion, it was probably on par with some store bought stuff but not up to my standards)

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork
I don't really understand something have a list of ingredients you could use as the base for a home made BBQ sauce...and you add a cup of store bought sauce...this recipe sounds good, but I would take the vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, chili powder, onion, thyme and garlic, add ketchup, some molasses, paprika, ground white pepper, and some cilantro, mix it all together until well blended, and use that as the BBQ sauce instead of some random store bought nonsense. Just my opinion.
