Bourbon Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Just don't understand what the other reviewers see in this. The whiskey was overly aggressive as a flavor, and the sauce just didn't know what it wanted to be: sweet, hot, smoky...so it just turned out as a mish-mash of flavors. I'm not a sauce snob, but both my husband and I just said not to this recipe.

Caramel Apple Jam

I made this twice and both times the jam did not set up properly. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the initial part of the recipe, cooking the apples with a tiny amount of liquid and butter, results in very little liquid in which to boil the pectin. I did use a food processor to chop the apples (so much faster) and that sped things along, but I have to say I'm disappointed in this one. I'm going to try and re-make the jam but would have much preferred that it come out right the first time.

Lemon Whippersnappers

Dough was incredibly sticky and hard to handle, even after thorough chilling, and the only way it could be shaped was to drop sticky globs directly into the powdered sugar. Totally not impressed with the taste - too sweet - or the texture - soft and crumbly. I wouldn't make these again.

Maple Whole Wheat Bread

Not ready in 5 minutes - maybe ready to cook but the whole wheat cycle takes about 4 hours, even the dough cycle is 90 minutes... someone ought to check that!! I found this was better with the addition of vital wheat gluten or King Arthur Dough Improver, either of which will give a better rise.

Toasted Apple-Pecan Brie Sandwiches

If you use sweeter apples, you can cut the sugar down to about a tablespoon, added once the apples are cooked, and adjust cinnamon to taste. While good, this creation has so many calories from sugar and butter and cheese that it's definitely a once in a while treat rather than something to serve everyday.

Hearts of Palm Salad

Check the proportions - by following the recipe exactly, I ended up with WAY too much oil, which ruined the taste of the dressing. I poured off about a third of a cup but the salad was still drowning. Even with a reduction in dressing and the addition of some red onion, the salad was bland and uninteresting. Also, this is expensive - $15 for the three cans of hearts of palm; way too much for a side dish!
