I love to cook and bake, but baking is definitely my specialy. I pretty well never follow a recipe exactly.
My mother dear is my official taste tester when it comes to baked goods as I don't really eat that kind of thing. I love fruit, and am starting to love veggies, though I have a really sensitive palate and find many veggies bitter. I try to eat very healthy. I have been vegetarian for 11 years, and spent 8 months (August 2011 - April 2012) vegan. I am now vegetarian, though I don't eat many animal products.
I love experimenting and creating in the kitchen. For me it is like therapeutic art work. I love trying to make healthy versions or additions to recipes, such as adding pureed spinach to cupcakes (yes, my friends LOVED them and thought it was only green food coloring until I told them!)
I like to work out at the gym, though I don't train seriously at all. I love music and singing. I love the sun, though I rarely see it living where I do. Oh yeah, and I really like bunnies!
My favorite things to cook
Baking cookies is my favorite. Other baked goods such as brownies and bars, muffins and quick breads are runners up. But I am always up for baking anything!! (I just need more reasons to bake or people to bake for!)
I love to make all sorts of creations in my Vita Mix blender... green smoothies, soups, "ice creams" made out of frozen fruit, puddings....
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't have much in the way of cooking traditions in my family. I will have to start my own, such as not following the recipe exactly - use as a guide, then get creative. And taking pictures of your creations.
One tradition my grandparents do is making home made perogies every Christmas.
My mom always used to do a lot of baking and candy-making at Christmas. She has cut back a lot as we just don't eat that much of it anymore, but if I ever have my own family I will definitely be doing this. My mom always made us really cool Birthday cakes too - again, something I will do if I ever have kids.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that I make that people like. I LOVE when people ask me for 'my recipe.' (And when that happens I always have to re-write the recipe because most likely I didn't follow the original recipe right on.)
My cooking tragedies
The first loaf of yeast bread I ever tried to make which came out of the oven looking and feeling like a large raw potato.... That and the macaroni and cheese I made when I was a kid and put in 1 cup of flour instead of 1 tbsp for the cheese sauce.
