About this Cook
In a society of box dinners & fast food, I love a more hands on and traditional approach to cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Pumpkin rolls, chess bars, peaches and cream tart. Chicken and dumplings, BBQ pulled pork.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking is always a family event. My husband and I met in a restauraunt...he was a chef and I was waiting tables for extra money. He wooed me with orange chicken and jasmine rice ;) Now our 8 year old and 21 mo. old help prepare nearly every meal in some (usually big) way. It is such a great way to bond with them!
My cooking triumphs
I have a board in our kitchen where I write things the boys do that make me proud. After a very good dinner of pulled pork and all the fixins, my eight year old wrote on the board, "Mom's meal was better than Moonlight*, Mcdonled, tacobell and minicheeseburgers!" TRIUMPH! *Moonlight is a local but world famous BBQ joint.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken and dumplings...they started off so bad, my husband would take them to work for lunch and dump them in the river. He later told me the fish wouldn't even eat them. But...I've come a long way...they're one of my boys' favorite dishes.

Shepherd's Pie VI
I made pie following recipe exactly and it was dry...I see why so many reviews recommend adding gravy or gravy mix. If I make this again, I will add some.

Pecan Pie V
This is an excellent recipe! Highly recommend! I've made this twice, following the recipe exactly the first time-5 stars. The second time, while the eggs were beating, I mixed sugars & flour with a whisk, then added melted butter and mixed. This seemed to keep the sugar from having a grainy texture. I added an extra 1/4c of pecans also. Whether or not you change a thing, this recipe is super!!

Barbie's Tuna Salad
I was hesitant to try this recipe as it does not contain the more traditional ingredients of chopped onion (fresh), celery and egg. But this is not your traditional tuna salad! It is wonderful. I made it exactly as listed. I will cut back on the mayo the next time.
