Grandma's Secret Pie Crust

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2005
I had to add about 2T extra water, maybe because my egg was a medium, not a large. It rolled out easily and was VERY FLAKEY! I've never been good at pie crusts, but I did great with this one. I had some leftover, so I rolled it outbaked it, and we used it for strawberry shortcake. Excellent!

Double Crust Bean Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2005
I added about 1/2 pound of ground beef, browned with the peppers and the onion, and it was wonderful. I doubled the amount of the salsa. It was delicious and my family loved it.

Apple Cake V

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2003
this is the best apple cake I've ever eaten. I ended up using probably 4 cups of chopped apples and pecans instead of walnuts. Also, I had some getting-stale coconut macaroon cookies which I crumbled up with the apples--YUM! I used 1 cup of oil and only 1 cup of sugar. I made a powdered sugar glaze and drizzled it over the top. I ended up with a completely different cale, but it was great. I'll make it again for sure.

Blueberry Dump Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2003
I'm really sorry I used 4 cups of expensive blueberries for this recipe. It's more like a bar cookie--about 1" high. Some of the cake mix that didn't get covered by the melted butter was just dry and crumbly on the top.

Peach Cobbler II

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2002
Sounds like everybody makes this recipe a little differently. I followed the recipe except I used 5 peaches and only 1 1/4 cups water. It was fantastic. This will be my only cobbler recipe from now on. I can't wait to try it with blueberries!

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2002
This really is the best. Nice little crunch on the bottom and a nice tangy flavor. I'll make this one again! (I didn't have any lemons, so I used 5 Tablespoons bottled lemon juice. Turned out great.)

Old Fashioned Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2002
After reading the reviews, I was expecting a TERREFIC pie. Boy, was I disappointed. It was runny. I stopped baking at 35 minutes, when the top was beautiful and golden brown--and there were some bubbles coming out the vents. But the juice didn't thicken--it was runny and floury. Also, plan to eat this pie all in one day, because the next day the strawberries were pale and mushy.

O' Henry Bars

Reviewed: May 21, 2002
I sure won't make these again. They stuck in the pan so hard that I bent a spatula trying to get them out. Also, the topping was just really sticky unless I kept them in the frig. These just aren't worth the trouble. Sorry.

Chicken Enchiladas II

Reviewed: May 8, 2002
Excellent! I'm a coward about trying to cook new things, but this turned out great. (I didn't have any green chilies on hand, so I used some hot sauce and a little salsa. It was good.)

Lap Salad

Reviewed: May 8, 2002
This was very good. I used about half the amount of vinegar called for, and we thought that was enough. I used sesame oil and added some diced celery. I'll make this one again!

Basic British Scones

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2002
Very good! I made these for my Scottish friends and they loved them. I added mini-chocolate chips to one batch and raspberry jam to another. They took a little longer to bake than the recipe ways, but that could be my oven.

Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2002
These have a nice flavor, but didn't spread out very much--ended up looking like little balls. That may be because I live in Canada and our cake mixes are in grams, not ounces. I might have had too much cake mix and it made to batter too thick. But I'll make them again. Very easy and my family loved them.

Excellent taste and texture--I used 1/4 cup sugar because we like sweet stuff. I'll make this again!

Old Fashioned Crumb Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2001
This cake was pretty good, but I'd call it a spice cake instead of crumb cake. The cake has a dark color, because of the cinnamon and cloves. The crumb topping was sparce.

I'll make this again! This has a good taste and fine texture. It's good with butter and honey. Next time I might cut the sugar in half.
