4-Bean Baked Beans

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2012
I followed the recipe, , I have been cooking for 43 years , I am not a picky eater at all, but I really did not like these beans. If I had used only northern or navy beans, I think they would have been pretty good. Didn't like the lima and butterbeans and I normally love both. Way too much trouble and expense for the end result.

Never fail pie crust

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
I forgot to say that you need to spray the pie pan with a non-stick spray. Also, mix this in a large glass mixing bowl. Metal is not good when using vinegar. And lastly, do NOT sprinkle flour on the wax paper before rolling out the crust

Cornbread Salad I

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2012
Just finished making this salad. I have been making it for years and it is a holiday favorite. Anyone who doesn't love isn't making it right. I only use 1 can of corn and add about a cup of bottled ranch dressing as well as the sour cream and mayonnaise. Seal it good with the mayo mixture along the edges and make it the day before to enhance the flavor.

Mississippi Mud Cake IV

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2012
My daughter and I loved it and my husband ( who is not a big chocolated fan) loved it, too. I used pecans and I did use 1/2 cup cocoa and only 3 cups confectioners sugar in the frosting. I also spread the frosting on the cake while it was still warm. It was even better the 2nd day. I will make it again. 5 stars from me!

'Adios, Turkey' Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2012
I just finished eating my 3rd helping of this. I did alter the recipe a bit to use up some leftover corn and mashed potatoes. I added about 1/2 cup whole kernel corn to the turkey mixture. After I had dumped the turkey mixture into a greased pan, I minced up about 1/8 cup jalapenos and about 1/8 cup onions. I added that to about 4 cups of mashed potatoes. I added 1/2 cup sour cream and 1 teaspoon minced garlic to the potato mixture and stirred it all up and then spread it atop the turkey. I baked it according to the directions but I did keep it covered with foil for the first hour. I added the cheese and bake it for 5 more minutes. I plan on making this according to the given directions, but I just wanted to use up all my leftovers and it turned out great. Kind of like a Mexican shepard's pie. Hubby and daughter gave it a thumbs up.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2012
I followed the recipe EXACTLY. It was okay, not the best I've ever eaten. I wish I had added more sugar and butter. Nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla would have been nice, too. If I make it again, I will lower the temperature to 300 degrees.

Rich Pumpkin Dessert

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
I tried this mostly to get rid of a can of pumpkin I had. My husband didn't want to try it because he doesn't like pumpkin and ended up eating seconds. He hated to admit he liked it after telling me he didn't want any because he just didn't like pumpkin. I loved it and my pumpkin-hating husband did, too. In my "Favorite tried and true desserts" file, and will make again.

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2013
I used 2 cups cooked white rice instead of the uncooked and it was still very good. I sauted the onions and peppers until wilted , then I added the Rotel, 1 teaspood cumin and only 1 teaspoon chili powder, I simmered it together just long enough to heat the rice. Next time I will use the uncooked rice, but still add the cumin and keep the chili powder at 1 teaspoon. A keeper!

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2013
My husband, who is not really a carrot cake fan, said this was the best cake I have ever made. I would have to agree and I have made a lot of tasty cakes in my day. Couldn't stop eating it so if you're on a diet, you probably shouldn't try it. If anyone gave it a bad review, they probably didn't mix it right, or bake it right. I went by the recipe with no changes. Perfect as written. Gets better and better each day.

Seven-Up™ Sheet Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2013
I really hate to give a bad review, but I just couldn't get past the oily taste the cake had. Next time I will use only 1/2 cup of oil. Also, the frosting was so sweet. Next time I will add 1 cup of chopped pecans to off-set the sweetness. I make a lot of cakes and should have known not to add that much oil, but I make the recipes exactly as written , so I can give an honest review. I noticed a lot of people had problems getting the frosting to thicken, Make sure you use real butter or margarine. If it doesn't have 100 calories per Tablespoon, it is a spread (even if it is in sticks) not real margarine.

Chicken Soup Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2013
I have made a recipe similar to this for years and it is a family favorite. I use 1 cup of sour cream instead of mayonaisse and I also occasionally add 1 can of Veg-all (drained) to make it a little healthier. You can also crush regular saltine crackers, then drizzle with 1 stick of regular butter. Great when you're in a hurry.

No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2013
I have been making these for years and years. Always perfect and delicious. Make sure you are using real butter or real margarine. It must have 100 calories per tablespoon to be real. Anything else is a margarine spread (even if it is in stick form) and should never be used in a recipe. It will not allow your cookies or candy to set up or harden. If your cookies did not set up, this may be the cause. Another cause may be not allowing mixture to come to a full rolling boil. A full rolling boil is a boil that can't be stirred down. 1 minute cooking time (after it has reached the full boil stage) allows a creaminess to the cookie texture that you won't get if you boil it too long.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2013
Best chocolate bundt cake I have ever made. Very moist, couldn't stop eating it. I used 1/2 cup warm strong coffee instead of water. This is a keeper.
