Dad's Asian Slaw

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2010
I made this exactly as the recipe called for it, but it loses points for 1.) using a bottled salad dressing – I hate that weird tangy taste you always get from bottled dressing, 2.) Not enough ramen noodles, and 3.) instructions to marinade. This salad/cole slaw should be crunchy! If it marinades it all becomes much softer. My humble suggestion would be to substitute 1/3 cup red wine vinegar and 1/3 cup oil for the bottled salad dressing, add an extra packet of ramen noodles (oriental, not beef), and toss together the dressing and salad right before serving. It’s still good after it has sat, but it’s best served immediately.

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
I thought this was pretty good. It had a little too much tomato taste for me (I think I would add more spices next time). Overall though it's a great easy recipe.

Best Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
This is basically the same recipe as Waldolf Astoria frosting. You don't need to cook until the milk and flour form a ball, just whisk constantly over low heat until it becomes thick and pasty. Don't let chunks form on the bottom of the pan. When it is pasty remove from heat and let cool completely. Also, cream your butter first until it's nice and whipped, THEN add the sugar and cream again until light and fluffy. If you take the time and do it right this is an excellent buttercream recipe, especially if you're like me and don't like the super sweetness of frosting made with tons of powdered sugar.

Three Cheese Manicotti II

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
Awesome recipe! The first one I've rated as 5 stars because I wouldn't change the recipe at all. Very good, my boyfriend and I both loved it. I'm sure I gained 5lbs from all the cheese and the amount I ate, but it was worth it.

Olive Oil Dip for Italian Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2010
I thought that this had way too much balsamic vinegar in it; next time I make it I will probably only use 1/2 tbsp. I only had three cloves of garlic so that is all I used and I thought that was plenty. Overall though this recipe is a keeper.

Slow Cooker Chicken Dinner

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2010
I thought this was just okay. It was too salty in my opinion and had a 'preservative' kind of taste to it. The boyfriend loved it though. I wouldn't make it again unless he wanted it.

Winter Chicken Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2009
I was looking for something quick, comforting, and healthy, and this was perfect! I was a little skeptical because I'm not a big fan of sweet potatos or apples used for dinner dishes but the whole meal was fantastic! I couldn't find cranberries, so I used dried cranberries, and they turned hard and crunchy; I wouldn't recommend them.
