This was very easy to make and delicious! I didn't find it too sweet. Maybe it is the apples that are used that make the difference. When I was cutting the apples, I was tossing them in fresh lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. I added some fresh grated nutmeg and vanilla. I tossed the apples, sugar (3/4 c), flour, and spices in a bowl and let it sit while I made the topping. I did not use any water. I added 1/3 c of sliced almonds to the topping. I greased the pan with the butter wrapper and added 1/2 the topping to the bottom. Some of the crumble on top was dry when I took it out of the oven. But it moistened during cooling and when I covered the pan with foil.
