Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
This bread is absolutely delicious! The only problem I have - which is not a big one - is that it tastes like a type of sweet bread. So, if you are wanting regular white bread, cut the sugar down to 1/3 c. It's and excellent sweet bread, though! I've also added about a teaspoon of cinnamon and about a cup of cranraisins to this recipe & my family loved it!

Apple Pan Betty

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
This was delicious and quick! The flavor was good. The reason I didn't give it more stars was because I would rather have the crumb crust instead of cubes of bread. I used French bread. It was very fast and very delicious though! :o)

Cranberry Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
We really did not like this. The pork tasted exceptionally strong, so I wonder if there was something wrong with our pork chops. By itself, the cranberry sauce that the pork simmered in was delicious. I like the taste of cherry or pineapple with pork a lot better.

Wild Grape Starter

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
The wild grape starter was much more active for me than store-boughten yeast starter. I dumped my store-boughten yeast starter and use this one exclusively.

Herman Pancakes

Reviewed: May 30, 2009
This is THE BEST pancake I've ever had! I followed the recipe exactly, except I used the sourdough starter I already had. I made my starter about two years ago from the concord grapes growing in my yard. That was the only thing that I changed in this recipe. Thanks for this DELICIOUS recipe!!! :o)

Sourdough Chocolate Cranberry Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
I'm very sad to tell you this recipe flopped. My starter has worked for me really well, so I don't think it's the starter. Recipe called for baking cake 30-35 minutes. I baked it 35 minutes, put a knife in the center, it came out doughy, so I baked it 10 more minutes. I checked the center of cake with knife again, it came out doughy, so I put it back to bake for another 10 minutes. It was getting late by that time, so when I finally took the cake out of the oven after at least 55 minutes, I set it to cool on counter. The cake fell as it cooled. I spread it with homemade cranberry sauce and sent it to church the next day. People usually eat all of the goodies I bake for after church - not this time. I tasted it too. The taste was not horrible; it just was NOT the consistency of cake. It looked like fudge when cut. This recipe needs to be reworked, or perhaps something has accidentally been left out. Usually, all recipes I try on this site get 3 - 5 stars - not this one. :o(

Pumpkin Cheesecake in a Gingersnap Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2007
We thought this was good, but I must have done the wrong thing putting the gingersnaps in the food processor. They ended up too finely ground, I think. Because, when I baked the cheesecake, the sugar in the crust seemed to have carmelized and made a harder crust. So, I think that was my fault, but I didn't like the ginger taste with the pumpkin cheesecake either. Sorry.

Sourdough Starter

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
This is my very first try at sourdough starter, or making sourdough anything for that matter, and it's excellent!!! It's SO EASY, and my family LOVED the sourdough bread I made - even my picky daughter! I've used this starter in the Chocolate Chip Sourdough Muffins, as well, and am tryin the Sourdough Chocolate Cranberry Cake today, too! YUMMY!!!

Chocolate Chip Sourdough Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2007
These muffins are chocolatety yummy, and I followed the recipe exactly! This is my first try at something sourdough. They really stuck to the paper baking cups that I decided to use, though. I won't use the paper cups again.

Wassail Punch I

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2007
I've made this for Christmas parties, and folks really like it. It's delicious and so nice, because it's a very warm punch when it's cold outside! I just keep it simmering on the stove during a party.

Rockin' Baby Back Ribs Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2001
The barbecue sauce is quite sweet and sticky, but it has an exceptional flavor. Even though it takes about 5 hours to make, I gave it an overall rating of 5, because of the flavor. Delicious!!!

Ma Lipo's Apricot-Glazed Turkey with Roasted Onion and Shallot Gravy

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2001
This is an excellent recipe - especially the onion/shallot gravy. I do not like gravy, usually, but this gravy just makes my mouth water thinking about it!!! I tried this recipe last Thanksgiving, and everyone really liked it. I will definitely use it for this coming Thanksgiving. I just can't get my fill of that gravy!!! :o) UPDATE: I've used this recipe for several years now, and every single time I make it, people REALLY like it! My mom's expecting this again this Thanksgiving! It's become our family tradition for Thanksgiving turkey! :oD ;>~ This and Leeza's Cranberry Sauce Extraordinaire are two of the best recipes on allrecipes.com!!!

Mincemeat II

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2001
This recipe for mincemeat is absolutely scrumptious!!! The only problem I found is that it needed more sugar. I made a batch and froze it in Ziplock freezer bags, and it was even more delicious half a year later! Two thumbs-up!!! This is about ten years later, and I just made this recipe again. I'm putting it in FoodSaver bags now and vacuum sealing it. It's SO GOOD!!! Now that my kids are older, I'll be keeping this in the freezer each year! I just measure about four cups of mincemeat and put it in a FoodSaver bag and freeze it. One recipe makes almost 5 four-cup bags. Delicious! Yum!!
