About this Cook
I'm a stay-at-home mom of two young children and absolutely love to cook. Being named an Allrecipes Allstar has been a thrill and I absolutely love the community of home-cooks I've connected with at Allrecipes!
My favorite things to cook
Bread and ethnic foods. I tend to enjoy lighter fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was about 8 I asked if I could cook our family's Christmas dinner and my mom agreed to let me. I chose to serve lasagna and mashed potatoes with oatmeal cookies for dessert. The unconventional meal has become a sort of tradition for our family.
My cooking triumphs
:-) Any time I know that what I've made is better than I could get at a restaurant.
My cooking tragedies
I have failed repeatedly at making pita bread and English muffins. Regardless of how simple the recipes look, they never turn out correctly for me.

Easy Cowboy Beans (Frijoles Charros)
Super easy and great flavor- I did add half a bottle of beer and let this simmer for several hours before serving.

Black Bean Salad with Peaches
I really was looking forward to loving this dish but unfortunately no one at our dinner get together enjoyed it. I think this dish has a lot of potential, in fact everything went really well right up until the avocado was added. All of the flavors work very well together until the avocado changes the texture of the salad and then it's just not good at all. I think the previous reviewer's garlic suggestion is a good one. In the future I would definitely leave out the avocado- with a few changes this would be great over chicken, with chips, or even spooned over the top of sliced avocado. As is, it unfortunately wasn't good.

Spicy Smoked Back Ribs with Maple Glaze
Ohmygoodness. OH MY GOODNESS. These are PHENOMENAL!!! Definitely some of the best ribs I've ever had the pleasure of eating. I served them for a Father's Day celebration and they were absolutely devoured! Don't be intimidated by the steps or the number of ingredients at all- they're just SO GOOD! Definitely a keeper. I double the rub but the rest of the ingredients were perfect as-is. I left out the coriander (accidentally) and didn't miss it. I also used apple cider vinegar rather than white vinegar in the sauce. AMAZING!!!
