Bertolli Classico Asparagus Saute

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Made exactly as written, but shortened the cooking time due to my preference of having crunchier asparagus. Great recipe for controlling the "doneness". Make sure to get some good Parmesan! The stuff I bought was the best I could find in Japan and was passable, but I might omit it all together next time. It's just not worth it if the quality of the cheese isn't any good.

Crispy Edamame

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
Living in Japan, edamame are everywhere but I never know how to make them. This recipe was simple (made to the letter) and so tasty I made it every night until I ran out of beans. A keeper!

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2014
I make these with very thinly sliced cucumbers and have them as pickles rather than a salad. I like adding bay leaves and even chilli flakes for an extra bite.

Easy Garlic and Rosemary Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2014
Tasty, but lacks a bit of oomph. Used chicken broth and extra garlic as per others suggestions, also fresh rosemary.

Lemon Bars II

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I have never made lemon bars before this! After trying this recipe out twice, I'm not sure if my weird Japanese oven just doesn't cook the crust properly, or if I don't mix it properly. Either way, the lemon portion of the bar is delicious, but I might need to find another crust for this one. Not bad, but could be better.

Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
OK, having never eaten nor made peach cobbler, I think this was a pretty good starter recipe. The only problem I had was completely unrelated to the recipe - I didn't check what size/shape pan to use and the one I had was very square, very deep, and very not done in 25 minutes. The top ended up crispy (though miraculously not burnt) but overall, a tasty result. Added cinnamon and two cans of peaches (white and yellow) as others suggested.

Orange Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
A nice change! I really like citrus taste so this worked for me, but I have to be honest - I wouldn't want to have it every day. A nice thing to make from random leftovers in my fridge :)

Maple Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2010
Very good! My only complaint would be that the topping is never enough, so I needed to double it both times I made it. I recommend switching the oven from bake to broil for the last 5 minutes or so to get a really crunchy topping :)

Twice Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
Not bad! I'm not a huge potato fan, but I really like cheese so I thought I'd give it a go. Honestly, not cheesy enough for me... but that's a personal preference. I didn't have much milk so I used cottage cheese instead, gave it a great texture.

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2014
Just what I was looking for - loved it! I mixed all the sauce ingredients ahead of time so I could just quickly put it together when I got home. Substituted ginger paste for ground ginger, and shichimi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shichimi) fir the red pepper flakes just because that's what I had on hand.

Oregano-Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2014
Made this as written and it was definitely tasty, but the honey didn't add much sweetness and I found the sauce to be rather sour (even though I love sour, lemony things). The honey will burn if you don't have the chicken packed tight in the baking dish, so I don't recommend making a single serving like I did. A bit of salt and pepper, garlic powder, and a touch more honey could turn this into a fabulous dish. Will make again!

Baked Lemon Chicken with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2013
Mushrooms and chicken go really well together, and the sauce is fabulous. Used shimeji mushrooms because that's what I had. Took the advice of others and made extra sauce but added cooking sake (didn't have white wine) to the chicken stock. Also seasoned the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Tasty! Will probably make again :)

Baked Paprika-Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2013
After a few tries, this is a tasty dinner. Don't skip the butter! I usually only make 1 or 2 at a time, but always comes out tasty. One thing - 1 hour is WAY too long (at least in my oven) for the chicken. It will come out dry and tasteless. 30 minutes is plenty for a smaller serving.

Laura's Lemon Roasted Potatoes

Not bad, but not really "lemony" enough for my tastes. Might do well with some lemon pepper.

Garlic Dill New Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
This was simple and very tasty. When my mom brought home more dill than we knew what to do with, I tried this out first and it was a winner. Still missing a bit of oomph, maybe just salt and pepper would complete the taste for me.

Sour Cream Mushroom Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2011
This was a pretty good soup/cream and chicken recipe, but the ratio of sauce to chicken was really off. Way too much sauce! Such a shame to waste it! I halved the recipe so I only used the cream of mushroom soup, but next time I think I'll half the sauce and use more chicken. Otherwise, pretty tasty!

Oven Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
Living in Japan, it's pretty hard to find chicken fingers, but now that I can make my own, I don't really need to go out searching for them. They're fast, easy, and can be tweaked a little here and there with the spices for a different twist each time. I sometimes added cayenne pepper for a kick, but don't over do it! I also use Japanese panko since that's all I can find here, but I like the crispy result I get. A nice healthy and simple recipe I've made again and again!

Baked Dijon Salmon

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2011
Awesome! I love fish so I'm pretty sure any recipe would have tasted good to me. I made it as written except that I didn't have fresh spices so I used dried, and I didn't have pecans so I used walnuts. I think it turned out great, and it really didn't take long to prepare at all! The only thing was that I kind of felt I could taste all the ingredients individually instead of sauces and topping - maybe I needed to mix things together a bit better. Still, delicious!

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2010
Ok, I didn't measure the spices at all, I used real garlic and onion instead of powder, and I used lemon juice instead of lime. Basically added more of what I liked and less of what I didn't. All in all, great turn out! Served it on some rice and had a little salad with it. Definitely a good recipe and I will probably make it again, very easy!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
Good base sauce! I had some leftover cream and I wanted to try to make something new. This worked well! I used a ton extra garlic, and I didn't have parsley so I used some italian mixed herbs. Some people said it was quite thin, but I found it to be perfect. Mind you, the cream in Japan is super thick and that might have had something to do with it. I also added a bit of salt, but I really like salt so maybe it's just my preference.
