Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
Wonderful recipe. I tried the suggestion of adding an extra 8oz of cream cheese as well as canned pumpkin pie filling--I ended up tasting and adding additional spices. Tastes great, but I had a bit of a scare waiting as it was baking. I was not aware that cheesecake remains extremely liquid-like around the center so I overcooked it. Thanks for the recipe!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

substituted with wheat flour and ended up somewhat dry and firm. will try a second time with original recipe, but even then, the first batch was wonderful with a little milk and honey.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Wonderful recipe! Friends loved it, but it was a bit too watery. I'll try this in the future with no water--the apples ended up producing even more water--and I'd like to try doubling the crust (which was extremely good, I only wished it was crispier and less crumbly).

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Not sure what happened here. I followed the instructions as is, but my cookies didn't have much moisture--maybe it was because I quartered the recipe. It was crispy on the outside, but the inside was neither chewy nor soft. I'll have to visit this one again!

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Definitely my favorite cookie recipe thus far! Extremely adorable 1" diameter, bite-sized cookies which still retain their crispy exterior and chewy middle. They look almost like chocolates if you present and box them well. Recipe was simple and quick--I followed it exactly and my cookies were perfect!

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
LOVED it! Made it to recipe, except I made sure cookies were very flat. After baking, it was still very soft and chewy! The second time, I tried making them thicker and it was still very flavorful, but I definitely preferred the flatter ones. I also substituted water with OJ like a few reviewers suggested and there was a noticeable difference.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
Most of my family preferred this recipe! Personally, I felt it would have been better if it was less chewy (I baked this twice with the same results). Note: there is a REALLY big difference if you let it cool on the sheet and if you immediately cool it on the rack. Definitely keep it on the sheet for a few minutes.

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Really nice consistency, but was too sweet! I'll try cutting the sugar next time around.

Quick and easy recipe (and cheap too)! Tastes really good especially if you roll in some chocolate chips.

Summer Potato Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
INCREDIBLE. The citrus balances the inherent creaminess of the salad making it extremely refreshing to eat. The eggs did not overpower the taste at all (although the smell does) so that my friend (who HATES eggs) actually liked this.

Basic British Scones

Very tasty, but a bit on the dry side. Unfortunately, my creations were not reminiscent of Tea & Sympathy's as another reviewer remarked.

Eggless Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
The cake rises beautifully, has a lovely texture, and looks wonderful--but it's taste is quite bland. Next time around, I'll probably incorporate other flavors. Update: The chocolate used really affects the taste! Invest in some quality chocolate.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
Love this recipe! I've always made it with sharp Cheddar, monterey, and mozzarella (about 4 oz each) and it tastes great! I highly suggest adding the 1/2c milk as stated in previous reviews.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2011
I'm not sure if I added the sugar correctly or not, but it ended up oozing out of the dough in the oven. After the cookies cooled, the final texture was very brittle and overly sweet/oily.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I only had half-and-half at hand so I used that and cream soda (I use fruit juice when making scones and they tend to taste better than just plain milk, but I didn't have any at hand) in lieu of milk. They came out moist with an incredibly flaky texture, so this is definitely my go-to biscuit recipe from now on.

Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
I didn't have canned mushrooms/onions or the herbs at hand so I used shiitake mushrooms and added some potatoes. I also added 1T of Worcestershire sauce to the beef, halved the red wine, and used chicken stock (would have used beef but I forgot to buy it!). The flavors blended extremely nicely and the starch from the potatoes made the resulting sauce thicker (I love the slight graininess).

Chicken Fried Chicken

I didn't have potato flakes so that might have affected the final crust. Overall, it was very juicy, but the flavor was lacking.

Insanely good. I also sprinkled some mozzarella on top so that I got a nice melt.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

I'll try letting it sit with seasoning next time. The flavors didn't absorb much, but the drippings more than made up for it.
