About this Cook
I started cooking with ladies in the neighborhood when I was a kid. I learned how to make tortilla's, and corn soup. I was handy in their kitchens peeling potatoes while they talked about cooking.
My favorite things to cook
Soups are my most favorite dish to make. I love how the house smells while the pot simmers. I love to make Mexican food but lack the patience required by some dishes. I am happiest when I find a "quick" dish that has the same YUM factor as say making homemade mole sauce.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love to make our traditional foods for holidays but have enjoyed branching out into new options. I brined my turkey this Thanksgiving and cooked it upside down see "Perfect Turkey" this site... it was marvelous. I also strayed from traditional bread dressing and cooked up the Minnesota Wild Rice Dressing that was a meal unto itself and delicious. This Christmas eve you will find me peeling potatoes and chopping onions and celery for our traditional meal of Potato Soup my favorite of all traditions.
My cooking triumphs
This last Thanksgiving had a super WOW factor. The turkey was so moist that I will never stray from brining and cooking upside down. I recently made a big pot of Zuppa Toscana (this site) soup that my husband RAVED about. This is quite memorable since he talked about it for 2 days.
My cooking tragedies
I am not a baker by any means. My mom bakes the best Banana Nut Bread each holiday season. My efforts of carrying on this tradition have failed miserably. My attempts at making pie crusts ended in 1987 when I could not get the dough to stay on the floured surface. Several batches ended in the trash.

Beer Sausage
I loved this dish, I have to say the Italian seasoning just didn't sound right so I left it out completely. I did use the salt and pepper and added Mrs. Dash with Garlic. YUM! I used a bottle of Blue Moon for the beer. I read other reviews and used only half of a small cabbage and it was plenty for the two of us and enough for lunch the next day. Also based on other reviews I just put all the ingredients in one big plop. My husband loved it and said we need to have this more often. Winner Winner Sausage dinner. :D

Corned Beef and Cabbage I
Absolutely delicious and easy peasy to prepare. The ONLY variation on this recipe was I allowed the beef to boil first so I could skim the slime off the top (as suggested by another reviewer) then I added the spice packet and set it to simmer. The house smells devine and on this rainy St. Patricks the window are steamy and cozy is the house.

Perfect Turkey
I will never cook a turkey in any other way. This was perfection unto itself. Turning the bird over is tricky but well worth the effort.
