I'm pretty eclectic in most all things, sort of an old fashioned gal in some respects, and in others not so much. I like to crochet and embroider and just mention them here because they aren't in the list of "indoor" activities. I'm 56 years old at this time, and began cooking beside my grandmother, who raised me. I learned a lot of good basic things from her, some about cooking and some about life in general. As for her recipes, they are mostly in my head and somewhat difficult to put onto paper as I am used to putting in a "little" of this, a "handful" of that, a "pinch" of the other, a "dash" or two of this.... you get the idea. ~smiles~ Being raised on the Oregon Coast, I learned to cook and appreciate fresh seafood and wild game.
I love my grandkids, who sometimes keep me feeling young, and other times very old; but at all times I enjoy them.
My favorite things to cook

Casseroles

My favorite family cooking traditions
I love making things from scratch. Growing up with a grandmother who was known for her hospitality when it came to cooking for company, I tend to want make sure family and friends are fed and have something good to drink. Grandma always had a pot of coffee on and could find something to whip up if she didn't already have something ready to serve. She was a wonder at making something of nothing and I never knew we would have been considered on the poor side of the tracks. I'm always grateful for the things I learned from her in the kitchen, even the things that didn't necessarily have to do with cooking. :)
My cooking triumphs
After many tries at making casseroles in my young years, experimenting with all kind of things, I finally made one that was edible. That was a memorable day. lol
My cooking tragedies
Well, some of those early casseroles for sure, and then there was the pizza that "looked" just like a picture in a magazine, smelled delicious, but tasted like... well I don't know what, but it was not edible! That was many years ago and I don't know to this day why it tasted so horrid, maybe some spice ill-used, but I never repeated whatever it was.
Then there were the cinnamon rolls that looked great, smelled wonderful, tasted delicious.... but... uhhhmm.... forgot the cinnamon. But they were the best brown-sugar rolls you ever tasted!
