Middle of the Midwest 5th Annual Roundup INVITE!

It's here!  Year number 5.  I can hardly believe it.  Since that first year when Magnolia Blossom drove 8 hours on a dark cold rainy night in November

tyle="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">to what was a stranger's house to now, five years later when we can't wait to see each other in 5 months and anyone else that would like to come.  YOU are invited to join us on June 6th, 7th and 8th, 2014 at my house for food, fun and the chance to meet other AR members.

I know I haven't been around very much these last couple of months due to a couple of pesky health issues plus I decided to start a major spring cleaning New Year's day which hasn't stopped yet, but that doesn't mean I haven't been noticing how many AR cooks there are in the Middle of Midwest.  Now if you are saying to yourself, "well, I would like to go but I'm shy.  I won't know anyone.  These people all ready know each other."  Trust me, we didn't know each other either at first but that didn't stop us.  Magnolia Blossom has even blamed me for all the other out of state roundups she has attended over the years.  She said she had so much fun at our first she just kept on going.  Shoot, she even went to Hawaii and Mi Being Mi joined her and the others.  If you do feel shy or maybe big groups are a little overwhelming, don't worry.  I have 20 acres here and there are many

gardens to check out if you need a little space from the group.  One of us returnees will make sure you are having fun and everything you need!  Those gardens are partly the reason for the major inside spring clean.  I want to have the perfect gardening year this year!  So when Spring gets here I'll be out there spring cleaning!  Also, I can guarantee you won't met any nicer, more welcoming people then those that have been here.  Now can I guarantee who will be here?  Uh no, that I can not do.   As hard as I try to stay on top of things there have been 2 years where surprise guests have shown up.  I still say, Mr. Mike Harvey, my mouth didn't open as wide as an anaconda when mauigirl showed up on my doorsteps  with flowers.  Granted it did take me a few to figure out who she was.   Unlike when I got this text last year

from xraybarb or gammaray as l like to call her.  Rather clever of her to be sending me photos of her with her beautiful grandchild.  Said grandchild lives in AZ where gamma was supposed to be.

What can I guarantee?  While Missouri's weather can be unpredictable, it won't be near as cold in June as it has been this January.  There will be plenty of food.  Friday evening for early arrivals we will have hearty appetizers and if I figure out the new wood burning oven we might even have pizzas.  Saturday lunch will be served at 1:00 pm and it will be

BBQ with all kinds of sides.  Sunday brunch will be served.  Yes, Mags I will make those Hot D cinnamon rolls again, I'll just make some plain ones for my bratty kid.

I can also with absolute certainty guarantee there will be lots of laughter and much conversation about everything under the sun.  From cooking to water bills, you name it we will discuss it.

We forgot last year's group photo so this is year #3's. If you would like to be in year #5's because we aren't forgetting it this time just email me at cathillcafe@yahoo.com and I will give all the info you need to come and have a fantastic weekend with us.

Cat here:)(: I apologize for the appearance of the blog. Magnolia Blossom suggested I wait till Monday to post but after working on this INVITE blog for 5 hours and having trouble with blogger, the browser and everything else, I gave up and went with it. I think you can see the photos if you click on them, if not I will give you the link to the bloggspot blog where I know they are.

Magnolia Blossom checking in. (This is a pain, having to identify myself due to the AR glitch.) You know I'll be there, I've already scheduled the time off. See you in June.

Jan. 25, 2014 9:25 am
MB here again. If you haven't attended a round-up, please do so. I've met some of the most wonderful people. As I usually state in my blogs, you just never know where your next friend will come from.

Jan. 25, 2014 9:26 am
Cat:)(: I am so looking forward to it and yes, you are right it is a pain but well, maybe they will have it fixed Monday!

She is one he!! of a hostess, her men wash up nice n her horses don't Bite :)) The views, anywhere you look are AMAZING!! Just don't get stuck behind a hay moving truck on a back road! lolol Plus, you might find a garage sale that has a Must have goodie to take back home to remind you of your trip! Mine was a Beautiful 2qt Corningware square casserole with lid, that made it back to California w/o breaking!! I relive that trip every time I use it:):) Again, THANK YOU Cathill family for making us feel right at home:)) xoxox

Jan. 25, 2014 10:09 am
Cat:)(: And GOOD MORNING to you too, PattyCakes! You two were a delightful addition to last year's roundup. Your Mr. Pattycakes was quite the storyteller :) This year the road construction is all finished around here so that problem won't be here but I can't guarantee there hay trucks won't be ;)

Jan. 25, 2014 10:12 am
Cat:)(: You have 5 months to think about it, duboo aka Jay! If at all possible any roundup you attend you can meet some really great people! And there is always food :)

Candice says: Hi Cathill, I am so sorry to hear you've had health issues. I wondered where you went! Whoot! Whoot! Awesome and cool! I will just echo what we all know. Round Ups, Get Togethers, AR Community Member Eating and Gathering Opportunities, they are all so much fun and so worth attending. Go, go, go to one if you possibly can. Hugs to you dear Cat!!

Jan. 25, 2014 10:18 am
BigShotsMom here: I wish the Midwest were closer to the east coast. Once again, I shall be with you in spirit and green with envy!

Jan. 25, 2014 10:31 am
Cat:)(: Many Hugs to you, Candice! Yes, pesky issues that I am working on daily. Today started great till I got to blogging. Woof has this been annoying but instead of getting mad I channeled my inner Candice :) I do believe that helped! And you are so right, anywhere 2 AR cooks are together is a good time!

Jan. 25, 2014 10:33 am
Cat:)(: BigShotsMom, I wish you could come too! I know you don't fly either. I'm not the best traveler either. I'd probably have to take MB with me to make sure I got where I was going safely and calmly!

Jan. 25, 2014 10:43 am
Candice again >>> you are so sweet! I love your saying "Channeling my inner Candice...." I could just hug you sweetheart!

Jan. 25, 2014 11:11 am
No guts, no glory. I'll get you where you need to go. MB

Jan. 25, 2014 11:25 am
Cat:)(: I'm working on that anger management, Candice! It is helping with the BP ;)

Jan. 25, 2014 11:26 am
Yeah, yeah MB! Even if Garmin takes us the long way round! BTDT!

Jan. 25, 2014 11:57 am
Oh my goodness I haven't been here in a long time other than peeking in and adding to my recipe box. This glitch is a real bummer. This is Soup Loving Nicole by the way. Hi all! Last year I was planning and saving for the big trip to NYC around this time but there are no big trips planned this year and we might just be able to make this. I sure hope so.

Jan. 25, 2014 12:01 pm
Cat:)(: Hey Soup Loving Nicole! You know it would be great fun to see you again. I know the Midwest just doesn't quite compare with the Big Apple on your birthday :) I sure hope you can come. Maybe you could even go fishing. Maybe catch some of those big ones I know we have in the pond. Fried catfish and green tomatoes, whaddya say? And yes, the glitch is trying hopefully AR has been working on it!

Jan. 25, 2014 12:03 pm
SLN-Catfish? Green tomatoes? Yes please!

Jan. 25, 2014 12:37 pm
Cat:)(: I'm thinking warmer temps and those photos you had posted a long while back. YUM! That would be so good today! Or in June:)

Lela
Jan. 25, 2014 1:21 pm
Lela:) Cat-looks like a lot of fun to be had by all!

Jan. 25, 2014 1:49 pm
Cat:)(: We have had so much fun over the years. You aren't that far Lela! Just a little trip across I70!

Jan. 25, 2014 5:27 pm
The long way around is also known as the scenic route. And I do enjoy scenic drives. MB

Jan. 25, 2014 6:43 pm
LOLOLOL! Uh, would Mi Being Mi consider the billy goat trail you drove up in Hawaii as scenic?

Jan. 25, 2014 10:56 pm
BSM: when it is hotter than hades, grab MB and head east. It is practically a straight run. When you see the ocean turn left.

Jan. 26, 2014 5:29 am
Cat:)(: BSM, I was thinking about that last night but MB would want to fly. That little issue rather held me back from the Maui roundup. The pictures you post of your view make me want to come. I haven't seen the ocean since I was little.

Jan. 26, 2014 7:47 am
Cat, Lucky Noodles here! The dates are on my calendar, fingers are crossed! Maybe I'll meet up with Thelma & Louise for the drive. They are so much fun to travel with and see the scenic route. Especially the winery stop and turning at the giant ketchup bottle! Hoped to get Molly up for the trip too but she's gonna still be making up snow days! Hugs!

Jan. 26, 2014 10:28 am
Cat:)(: Lucky, Mags has got smoke coming out of her ears planning for this. LOLOL! We do have wineries in this area! Molly from AR? Ah, Stupid snow!

Jan. 26, 2014 11:37 am
Heather here!! I just said to my husband "how far is Missouri really from us?" He snorted/ laughed and said far!! Why? I said just asking! His response - is this one of your recipe round things? Haha. Yes - yes it is! So wish we all lived closer! I would love to come! So hoping east coast one does a 2nd annual this year cause I 100% plan to attend!!! Have fun all!

Jan. 26, 2014 11:39 am
Cat:)(: Yep, if you are on the coast, it is a trip to MO! Heather, it is great to meet the people you "talk" to isn't it?!

Jan. 28, 2014 3:53 am
I have a friend in KC that I want to visit. Just too far off to know just now but will keep it in mind. LoveBreezy

Jan. 28, 2014 4:04 am
LoveBreezy, I'll repost the invite in a couple months. I know it is hard to plan that far in advance sometimes but I had some that wanted to know when the date was going to be. Hope you can make it! You ought to have your friend take you to Pryde's if you do. It's a fun shop for cooks.

Jan. 28, 2014 8:50 am
I am SO green just knowing how much fun everyone will have! I've been to "round-ups" for other clubs, so I know what I'll be missing. I don't travel any more, or I'd try to make it, even though I'm clear out in El Paso, Tx. I love looking at the pics (they show up when clicked on) and look forward to this year's evidence! (scootersandi)

Jan. 28, 2014 9:16 am
scootersandi, you know that would be a bit of a drive all the way from El Paso. Still would love to have you if you could make it. I hope AR gets their blogging section fixed. I hope I figure out why I had so many issues, I've got a cute sprout blog I want to post but it seems kind of inconvenient for people to have to click on the photos. I'm glad you enjoyed the ones you saw Cat:)(:

Jan. 29, 2014 7:13 am
Hi - Bean Lady, here! :) Finally checking in! The calendar is duly posted! I love scootersandi's comment about "evidence"....lolol! And for the record - I am a FIRM believer in Magnolia Blossom's driving motto - No Guts No Glory - She'll even get you where you thought you couldn't go!! Looking forward to seeing all my AR friends! PS - for those of you who don't know - I'm Mi-Being-Mi on allrecipes.

Jan. 29, 2014 2:21 pm

About Me
I live in the middle of the U.S. in a farming communtiy. Gardening, reading and cooking are the things you'll mostly find me doing. I also enjoy horseback riding & my many pets. A husband & teen, I have 1 of each.
My favorite things to cook
Bread & BBQ are 2 of my favorite things to cook. I do enjoy a food challenge. Last year it was curing my own brisket for Corned beef & pastrami & porkloin for Canadian bacon. This year sausages & scratch cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bread and brittle. I learned to bake bread with my Mom. It was her favorite thing to make. My Aunt made the best peanut brittle ever. She'd stopped making it in the later years but when I told her how much I enjoyed her brittle, she opened the vault ,gave me the recipe & handed over the brittle torch to me.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out the way I wanted it to or exceeds my expectations! Like my homemade bratwurst.
My cooking tragedies
Let's not go there! I prefer not to think about my kitchen disasters besides my child can gleefully recount all of them.
