Last Call!!

June 21st thru the 23rd, the 4th annual Middle of the Midwest Roundup is happening!

The yard may be a mess, the house might not be perfectly clean like I expect it to be but the food will be pretty good and the company will be great! I'm not sure who is coming right now but I do know Magnolia Blossom, Lady Sparkle, Mike Harvey and his lovely bride are definitely coming. Pattycakes and her DH & Heidi S. are a for sure too. I have a list of maybes and maybe, maybes which I hope can come but life sometimes has a way of arranging our schedules no matter what we plan.

This I do know. Friday June 21st evening I will serve hearty nibbles and the team, Friends In The Air, will be here and then going to Liberty joining in the Relay for Life cancer walk there. They have dedicated this walk to Allison Thomson aka Dogfish Head. Their goal is to raise $1000. Here's their info if you would like to join in their effort,;pg=team&team_id=1334712< < HYPERLINK ";pg=team&team_id=1334712/l"<

Saturday June 22, we will have BBQ here for lunch and Sunday the 23 I will serve brunch here.

This is open to anyone who would like to come. It isn't too late to join in the group where you can feel right at home. Yes, we may roar like a river full of laughter or giggle and bubble along like a merry brook. Sometimes like a quiet stream we are deep and silent, thoughtful and reflecting but we are always here for each other.

If you would like to come and would like info email me at

I want to come and would because hello this is close enough to me to work but Madeline's 5th birthday party hosted by me is June 23third.
Jun. 5, 2013 3:28 pm
OoO Joey Joan! Would LOVE to meet you! Can't wait! I've been working myself like crazy so I hope I can "keep up" in the walk! So excited!!!!! I can personally vouch for the food. . .it is AMAZING!! And the company is outstanding. . .I should stop "going on". . .just sooo excited!! See you all soon! :)
Jun. 5, 2013 3:30 pm
I'd love to be there and will be in spirit! Is there an airstrip in the garden? Where is the plane or that RV with a driver I keep requesting?
Jun. 5, 2013 3:32 pm
Oh what fun we had last year my dear Cat! The food was fantastic and the fellowship was even better! The stars did align for me and I'm sorry to say, I will not make this year's festivities. I'm very bummed out too because this year I wanted to drive the Rhino! You'll have to tip a glass in the Northwest direction dear girls. I love you all more than you know.
Jun. 5, 2013 3:37 pm
Lady Sparkle I am looking at the south one this year, Next year your week end won't be on Madeline's Bday so getting to yours is all possible.
Jun. 5, 2013 3:42 pm
Joey Joan, that would be a bit of traveling to get here! Ah a birthday party for the little cutie is on the same weekend?
Jun. 5, 2013 3:43 pm
Lady Sparkle, will be seeing you soon and please don't put Mike in the trunk this year :)(:
Jun. 5, 2013 3:45 pm
Lucky Noodles, there is an airport in town owned by a friend of mine and there is an airstrip down the road. We so need to win the lottery!
Jun. 5, 2013 3:49 pm
Candice, I was so looking forward to seeing you and your lovely daughter, Christine. I was hoping you would make some of those wonderful cookies you sent last year. Yes, I might have been tempted to purloin most of them instead of sharing them with the guests but darn they are sooooo good! Don't send any now I'll just eat them all and that would be a bad thing :)(:
Jun. 5, 2013 3:50 pm
Oh, Cat! I so wish I could be there to meet our little dirty girl...I mean our little dirt covered gardening girl! He-he! I know you will have an awesome time and how wonderful to make the dedication to Allison! All our thoughts and prayers are with her.
Jun. 5, 2013 4:09 pm
CH: Wish I could make it happen, but not this year. Have a wonderful time! Can't wait to hear how much fun everyone had!
Jun. 5, 2013 4:17 pm
Dude, you know how much I'd like to be there! I also want to tell everyone how crazy hard you've been working to make everything just perfect. And I'm sure it is. Have a blast and I'll be there in spirit. You'll know it's me when that little voice in your head tells you to have another beer or six! Hugs! :o)
Jun. 5, 2013 4:17 pm
Oh mickdee!! You got me laughing so hard right now. I've been outside all day in the RAIN weeding! I think I have molded! I asked Mike Harvey for info on the walk so I could put in this blog and he told me that they had decided to dedicate the walk to Allison. My thoughts are with her and her family .
Jun. 5, 2013 4:21 pm
bikerfamily, Magnolia Blossom said it was great meeting you and I wish you could come! Got the travel thought for you and anyone on the West Coast or East coast. After all I am in the middle! Maybe next year :)(:
Jun. 5, 2013 4:48 pm
Mr. & Mrs. Mike are sweethearts! Hope to see them at the Bash! We'll take good care of them for you! Have fun, be safe and wash that mud off!!!!!!!
Jun. 5, 2013 5:57 pm
I SO wish! One day! [Is that the same thing I said last time it came up? I'm even more repetitive in my old age (=] Gotta buy that lottery ticket!
Jun. 5, 2013 6:16 pm
You have been reading my mind dear friend!! Ears ringing? Its all I can think of:) Talk about it at school and think about the trip in the shower! See u Soon! }}}HUGS{{{
Jun. 5, 2013 6:17 pm
Mike just might start to like that trunk by next year!!! lol
Jun. 5, 2013 6:23 pm
I wish everyone could come. Can't wait to see old friends and new. She's the hostess with the mostest.
Jun. 5, 2013 7:17 pm
cheepchick, I will meet you! The old sis is going to live in FL so eventually I will get there! And about that beer was thinking while the rain was pouring off of my hair that I might need to be thinking of some kind of hot toddy sort of drink. I swear I'm going to mold if I keep weeding in the rain. Although, my hair is curling nicely :)(:
Jun. 5, 2013 7:18 pm
mickdee, you are so right they are a great couple. You all have a great time at your bash!
Jun. 5, 2013 7:21 pm
The baglady, I liked gammaray Xraybarb! Anyway I wish you could come too. You and Baking Nana could hop a plane and be here in no time, just ask mauigirl :)
Jun. 5, 2013 7:26 pm
Patty Cakes, sorry I misspelled your name. Blame it on the rain :) I looked around today while taking a break and thought to myself, I wonder how this will compare to CA. Anyway, the food will be good :)
Jun. 5, 2013 7:27 pm
And yes, maybe Mike will get used to the trunk soon. it looked comfy last year! Uh oh, you don't suppose there will be room for fruitcake do you?
Jun. 5, 2013 7:30 pm
Magnolia Blossom, can you believe it has been four years? I still remember that first night when you arrived in the rain at a stranger's house......
Jun. 5, 2013 7:37 pm
Thinking of changing my name back to one or the other - not sure which, yet (=
Jun. 6, 2013 3:45 am
BTW how is the little cutie, gammaray?
Jun. 6, 2013 6:55 am
Thank you Cat and mickdee, for those compliments! I know it should be easy for me to change those opinions. Maybe, I’ll try? … NAWWW! … As for riding in the trunk, I think I’ll try to pass on it. Last year it was easy for them to stuff me in there but this year, that problem doesn’t exist so a proper resistance can be expected. … I think “TheBagLady” needs to restore her alias to “gammaray” which is very appropriate for the birth of her grandbaby as well as identifying her professional field. … MrsMike and I are anxious to attend the Ohio Bash, Middle of the Midwest Roundup and the MiniMI. We have such a good time meeting and associating with all of these folks! See you in 15 days!
Jun. 6, 2013 8:37 am
Well, I certainly plan to attend! I would love to come Friday night for the walk, but I've made no arrangements whatsoever for overnighting it - so I will have to see about that. Candice can have the Rhino! - I'll take the 4-wheeler!!! :D
Jun. 6, 2013 10:29 am
Mi~ ... We may have a room for you in the house we rented in Plattsburg. I'll send you info if you want it.
Jun. 6, 2013 10:45 am
Mi, you can ALWAYS have a room here :)or rather one in the RV. I'll have to tell Ryan to wash that 4 wheeler off!
Jun. 6, 2013 10:47 am
Mike, I think the ladies will let you ride up front this time :) OMG! 15 days, I feel like that rabbit "I'm late, I'm late"
Jun. 6, 2013 2:35 pm
Don't worry about the house, about the house, Cat! I'll spill some water again and have it sparkling for you in an hour or less!
Jun. 6, 2013 4:06 pm
Lol Honey, I don't care How you spell my name. Carlos can't believe it Still 15 days away. lol Hurry up time:):)
Jun. 6, 2013 7:18 pm
Mike, forget the house IT'S THE YARD! That would be the one that someone thought was such a good idea to put gardenS in! As with every year, it will be the people that make the day not how clean the house is or how great the food nor how weedy the yard :)
Jun. 6, 2013 7:21 pm
Patty Cakes, I can't believe it either! Being the chronic worrier, I trying to think of everything I need to tell first time guests. I'm so glad Candice took last year in stride so well but she is a well seasoned calm traveler.
Jun. 6, 2013 9:46 pm
I've never been that far East and Carlos has never been to MO, he was in Europe w/Army for 6 years. so we are just about to jump out of our skin with happiness!!
Jun. 6, 2013 9:48 pm
Btw, can we drive Big Orange? That would be a trip!
Jun. 7, 2013 4:47 am
Just now pouring in the coffee. Big Orange? The Rhino is olive drab :) I hope the weather cooperates again this year. It will be green here which Candice thought made MO as lovely as OR.
Jun. 7, 2013 5:54 pm
Your tractor! But Carlos poopie pants says I can't drive it:( hhhmmpphhh
Jun. 7, 2013 7:00 pm

Jun. 8, 2013 9:15 pm

Jun. 9, 2013 4:53 am

Jun. 10, 2013 8:44 am
You all will have a blast I know! Would love to see all of you. Have fun and try not to do anything I wouldn't do. (You know that leaves you lots and lots of leeway LOL)
Jun. 10, 2013 10:11 am
midwestchef, like I told mickdee, if you are in this neck of the woods stop by. Call first so I can change and put on makeup. I'd hate to scare anyone :) You gals have a great time this weekend! Back to work for me!
Jun. 10, 2013 10:13 am
sassyoldlady, it never fails despite my best intentions I never get it all done but it never matters. The people that grace my home make the whole weekend what it is. And yeah, what happens in the garden stays in the garden ;)
Jun. 10, 2013 10:45 am
LOL! We had a graduation party here a few weeks ago - Holy Toledo! I was still surrounded by boxes a week beforehand! We were so not ready at party time! It was at 2:00. No one showed until 3:30! [I was still washing dishes till 4:00!] I said I had the best guests in the world! [Showing up 1 1/2 hours late!]
Jun. 10, 2013 12:57 pm
LOLOL! Oh dear oh dear! Wouldn't it be nice to be prefect like Martha Stewart. Oh wait, she has a staff :)(:
Jun. 10, 2013 8:43 pm
A BIG staff (=
Jun. 10, 2013 8:43 pm
[I was just happy to get my boxes in a spare room!]
Jun. 11, 2013 4:15 am
I could use a staff!
Jun. 11, 2013 6:08 pm
I think I need a wife!
Jun. 12, 2013 4:35 am
NO KIDDING! If I had time I'd send you an email and that little one, LOVED that one photo!!
Jun. 12, 2013 6:08 am
Have a wonderful time. I will be with you in spirit!
Jun. 12, 2013 1:59 pm

Jun. 12, 2013 8:40 pm
[ . . . or a wife - LOL!]
Jun. 12, 2013 8:42 pm
No worries (= Write when you can - after your "event" is just fine - I'll be around (= By the way, just realized I'll be in AZ, hugging my Peanut [or, Cacahuate, in Spanish (=], while y'all are rounding up. Kinda makes up for missing your fun {= We can trade emails, after (= I'll hug her for you!
Jun. 12, 2013 8:44 pm
You, know, we should do a birthday something, sometime! Seems a shame NOT to - since they are consecutive days!
Jun. 13, 2013 4:46 am
I was looking at the little peanut's photo while shopping yesterday. Just love that face. Yes, we should do a birthday thing! Is this right, July 31, Aug 1? Soup loving Nicole is Aug 2. Haven't had all my coffee yet!
Jun. 13, 2013 3:48 pm
It is (=
Jun. 13, 2013 9:13 pm
Wouldn't that be a blast!
Jun. 17, 2013 5:30 pm

About Me
I live in the middle of the U.S. in a farming communtiy. Gardening, reading and cooking are the things you'll mostly find me doing. I also enjoy horseback riding & my many pets. A husband & teen, I have 1 of each.
My favorite things to cook
Bread & BBQ are 2 of my favorite things to cook. I do enjoy a food challenge. Last year it was curing my own brisket for Corned beef & pastrami & porkloin for Canadian bacon. This year sausages & scratch cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bread and brittle. I learned to bake bread with my Mom. It was her favorite thing to make. My Aunt made the best peanut brittle ever. She'd stopped making it in the later years but when I told her how much I enjoyed her brittle, she opened the vault ,gave me the recipe & handed over the brittle torch to me.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out the way I wanted it to or exceeds my expectations! Like my homemade bratwurst.
My cooking tragedies
Let's not go there! I prefer not to think about my kitchen disasters besides my child can gleefully recount all of them.
