tyle="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif">It's on! June 21, 22 and 23, 2013 the 4th Middle of the Midwest Roundup will be held! And anyone that would like to attend is welcome!

I can hardly believe that 4 years ago several people who met thru All Recipes got together for lunch at my house. And then some of them kept coming back yearly! Yes, we have had different people every year for the roundup and each year has been different. I wish I could say it was my improving hostess abilities each year that adds new people but when you mix good food, laughter, conversation and wonderful people, the hostess job is a snap. And yes, sometimes the hostess here does snap. Could be why my dear friend, Magnolia Blossom, and first time co-hostess sent me these.

I do believe she & a co-conspirator sent another such package to a BBR ( Been Before Rounduper, I refuse to use Old timer to designate those of us that have been here before :). He got all hot stuff in his due to incendiary nature.

Last year Mr. Harvey or Mr. Hotstuff and his lovely bride attended the roundup. It was great meeting the quick witted Mike but as some of you know he has battled cancer so when he goes somewhere he tries to support any cancer awareness event in the area. Last year, he rallied those that come and they attended a cancer walk. He has done the same this year. I will let him post the info but it will be the Friday night before the Sat. lunch here.

Let's only hope since I pushed the date back for our get together that we won't be wishing we could see these!

For those that don't know Missouri weather, you never know what you will get. June could be really nice or really HUMID. Don't worry we have air conditioning! And the pool will be up this year. And lunch will be served on time! Magnolia Blossom and I proved it could be done when I had the Oct. mini roundup for those that couldn't but wanted to come in June. Yes, we did it served lunch exactly on time! So what we forgot some of the stuff in the fridge. It was still a great lunch and the conversation flowed as it always does.

So for anyone that would like to come but feels like they might be out of place with all of us BBR'ers (Been Here Before Rounduper's), don't worry about it. The BB faces are great to see but new faces are so welcome. Feel like you might be overwhelmed in the crowd? No worries, there are 20 acres here. Step outside, look at the gardens or the wildlife. A BB'er will make sure you have everything you need and we won't let you feel left out. Trust me, the conversation will flow and the laughter is sure to follow.

The menu is the same as before, BBQ. Lunch will be at 1:00 on Sat. Friday night's menu hasn't been decided. It depends on who is coming in and staying with me and if the cancer walkers have time for a stop in. I do have limited space for ladies only in the RV but I do have it and those that have stayed in it seem to like it. There are lots of motels in the area. There are B&B's here. There is even a house in town to rent but that goes fast. I tried to get it last year and a wedding party had snapped it up. This is an historical area for those that would like to extend their stay and see some of the area. There are quite a few wineries in the area too for those interested in visiting them. We have some really neat food places to visit in Kansas City. Sunday will be brunch and the plan is to have it here also.

So, I invite anyone that is interested to email me at cathillcafe@yahoo.com, head your message "Midwest Roundup "so it doesn't go to Spam. I will be more than happy to give any info you would like about the area and the Roundup. And no, I don't actually know who will be here this year, I didn't last year. You never know who will show up at these events. Ah, but the surprises have been most awesome.

So again I say, The 4th Annual Middle of the Midwest Roundup is on!!! Can't wait to see the BB'ers and any new faces that would like to come!

We will have such a great time! How can you miss with faces like these?

Oh that looks so fun. I am hoping for a spring round up in Atlantic City May 31. I wish you and all who show up a great time.Wish I could be there.
Mar. 18, 2013 10:23 am
Joey Joan, roundups are so much fun! They can be a lot of work but they are so worth it! I hope you have a great time at your roundup! I know you will! No matter how many come it has always been a great time here!
Mar. 18, 2013 10:24 am
Would love to,but can't.Wishing those who do go to have a wonderful time.
Mar. 18, 2013 10:43 am
Hey, manella! There are quite a few miles between us so getting here for you wouldn't be easy for sure. It would be great to meet you though!
Mar. 18, 2013 10:56 am
How can I not show up? I'm like one of the fixtures at your house. And I bring AR peeps along! Can't wait...
Mar. 18, 2013 10:57 am
For those out there that are even thinking just a little bit about coming - just go for it! You won't regret it, you will meet a fabulous hostess and great AR folks.
Mar. 18, 2013 11:01 am
I hope you have fun! I won't be able to be there.
Mar. 18, 2013 11:07 am
I would like to echo Magnolia Blossom's second comment above! Great hostess + great AR peeps + great food = GREAT TIME! P.S. I love that picture!!
Mar. 18, 2013 11:17 am
Cat Hill,it would be nice for sure, maybe one day.I will be thinking of what fun you all are having while the garden is being planted.
Mar. 18, 2013 11:41 am
I see Magnolia Blossom will be there. Looks like venison will be served. (She'll tenderize it on the interstate! BTW! Today is her birthday. Although she looks older, she's only 93.) Our cancer walk will be in Liberty, this year. A little further away but it is what was available during the time I needed. We'll be at the Buckeye Bash the preceding weekend. We are looking fondly toward our next MMW Roundup.
Mar. 18, 2013 11:56 am
Oh, what fun!! I'm already anxious to hear all about it!!! Wish we could be there! I know you guys will have another wonderful and fun event!!
Mar. 18, 2013 12:01 pm
I will be there in spirit. Can't do it this year, but I will make it someday! Have a great time and take lots of pictures. :)(:
Mar. 18, 2013 12:01 pm
93! I thought it was 33! Magnolia Blossom, I again, wish you a very happy birthday and I so look forward to seeing you. I still can't believe you took off for a stranger's house and arrived on a cold dark night only to return again and again. It was my great luck to meet you! And yes, anyone even slightly thinking about coming should send me an email.
Mar. 18, 2013 12:03 pm
sueb, I just want your sight to come back like it was. Again, another friend I have met here that I would love to meet in person!
Mar. 18, 2013 12:05 pm
MiBeingMi, we have had some great times haven't we?! I am sure my son will ask yet again if the bean lady is coming. Your baked beans alone should get people here. They are the best!
Mar. 18, 2013 12:07 pm
mickdee, you golf pro you! We do have some nice courses around here if you ever make it this way. My son and DH would love to go and show them to you. I'll stay home and fix the eats ;) I'm dangerous with a club. Trust me, they don't even take me to miniature golf.
Mar. 18, 2013 12:10 pm
Mike, Liberty is not that far from Kearney. I can't wait to see you all. Let's see I'm thinking a Hawaiian theme should be for this year's roundup. Since some of us aren't or won't be able to fly over for mauigirls roundup.
Mar. 18, 2013 12:13 pm
BigShotsMom, you have had enough to deal with this last year. Maybe someday you will make the roundups. In the mean time, I hope the rebuilding in your area is going well!
Mar. 18, 2013 12:14 pm
manella, I just hope for once all the yardwork is done and the gardens here look great for those that are visiting!
Mar. 18, 2013 1:30 pm
Hey ya! Can't wait for Buckeye Bash. Midwestchef is hostess with the mostess this year at her digs. The 12th I think. Been waiting to see if she posts something, I know she is dealing with issues with the hubby and herself too. Hope all is well there. And you guys will have a blast as always. You never know, someday I may darken the door, would love to come!
Mar. 18, 2013 1:54 pm
sassyoldlady, you would never darken my door but I sure bet you would BRIGHTEN it ;) I know you all will have a GREAT time with the Buckeye Bash. I do believe the first one helped inspire Magnolia Blossom to drive all the way here. Maybe someday I will drive to her house, pick her up then Lady Sparkle and we will hit the Buckeye Bash. We just need to coordinate our weekends :)
Mar. 18, 2013 2:56 pm
Cat - Someday, girl, someday I'm gonna make your roundup! I so enjoyed the Buckeye Bash last year and this year (sadly) I can't make that either! Our family vacation to the beach is either then or not at all. I got out-voted... Next year is another year.
Mar. 18, 2013 3:01 pm
Ouch... 93? Cringing... BTW, Mike - The deer carcass will hang out in the trunk with you. Should be plenty of room.
Mar. 18, 2013 5:35 pm
I love reading about the fun everyone has at these various round ups. Maybe someday, I will be able to attend. Enjoy !!
Mar. 18, 2013 7:11 pm
Mother Ann, you are always welcome! It's hard to plan the summer around family and work. No matter weekend I chose someone wouldn't be able to make it. Someday! Maybe like I told Sassy, I'll drive, pick up Mags, then we will pick up her Thelma and come see you all.
Mar. 18, 2013 7:13 pm
misty, do go if a roundup is in your area. You will have a blast. I know work, family and budgets have a way of curtailing adventures. I hope you get to go too someday!
Mar. 18, 2013 7:16 pm
Mags, do you suppose Mr. Hotstuff burned up his retinas and can't tell how old you are. I'm almost positive it's 33 or 43 can't remember which but both sound like good ages to me :)(: So he is riding in the back with that deer you ran over on the highway last year? Throw in some Febreeze so they are both fresh when they get here!
Mar. 19, 2013 9:14 am
If Febreeze is all it takes to be fresh, I won't need to shower between now and then, will I? I'll be sure to stay close to both of you for such a fine suggestion!
Mar. 19, 2013 9:49 am
I would soo love to come. I have a lot of trips on my plate this year and won't be available...enjoy your get together. And maybe I can do another one in the future.
Mar. 19, 2013 9:57 am
Cat, I'd be happy with 33 or 43... I'll have to find one of those Febreeze stick-ons for the trunk.
Mar. 19, 2013 10:33 am
Mr. Hot Stuff, 'member I have no sense of smell :)
Mar. 19, 2013 10:35 am
Miss7up, I'd have you decorating the dessert! I know the get together will be fun no matter what doesn't get done they are always a blast! Maybe next year :)
Mar. 19, 2013 10:36 am
Mags, you might want to get 2 of those stickups. He's threatening not to bathe! I don't see that working for Linda Pat, do you?
Mar. 19, 2013 12:22 pm
Now, there is a thought, Cat! Golf and food! What could be better? We'll give Mr. & Mrs. Hotstuff a hug for you at the Bash, I know you will miss them!! :D
Mar. 19, 2013 1:29 pm
See how nice mickdee is? Hugs! Not trips in trunks! I'll shower just for her!
Mar. 19, 2013 2:17 pm
Sounds like a great time!
Mar. 19, 2013 2:21 pm
mickdee, we have an excellent golf course here in our quaint little town. You might even enjoy it :) Mr. Harvey, I would never put anyone in the trunk but you gotta watch out for that Magnolia Blossom. She may be quiet but she has quite the devil inside :)
Mar. 19, 2013 2:37 pm
NNNNAAAaawww! Surely you make jest, Cat!
Mar. 19, 2013 3:29 pm
LOLOL! Hey you rode with her last year!
Mar. 19, 2013 3:47 pm
we would love to but wife is changing meds. i'm just hoping we get everything worked out by the time the redneck round-up rolls around. glass is ALWAYS half-full! i love to see all these round-ups happening...so many great folks!
Mar. 19, 2013 4:12 pm
One of these days......
Mar. 19, 2013 7:32 pm
gderr, I thought that might be the case. Hey, if your sweet lady needs another FB friend I'd love to friend her! Y'all take care!
Mar. 19, 2013 7:34 pm
Marianne, I would love to meet you!
Mar. 19, 2013 8:14 pm
Cat Hill, every time I read about one of these round-ups, I have high hopes of possibly being able to attend one. I called myself reading carefully and scanning back through but can't find the exact location in Missouri for this event. Can you tell me where it will be so I can figure how far you are from my home? And perhaps I can convince my husband to feel safe letting me drive that distance? I can dream anyway.
Mar. 20, 2013 6:14 am
You just never know with me :)
Mar. 20, 2013 6:35 am
If you decide on a Hawaiian theme, let me know so I can get my Hawaiian garb ready.
Mar. 20, 2013 8:16 am
KGora, sorry I missed you yesterday. Despite some of the mishaps that always happen each year, we always manage to have fun!
Mar. 20, 2013 8:18 am
mauigirl, LOLOLOLOL! Everytime I tell the story how you got me last year people love it hearing it!
Mar. 20, 2013 8:19 am
Mike, we will have to do something on the Hawaiian theme for those of us that aren't going to attend the Maui Bash.
Mar. 20, 2013 8:20 am
Paula, email me my address is in the blog and I'll give you all the details. I can't remember where you are located right off hand.
Mar. 20, 2013 4:38 pm
If all the stars align, I will be there! Can't wait for a spin in the Rhino. I know, I'm a cheap thrill..... It doesn't take much to make me happy. AR Peeps, good food, a glass of wine, a ride to the pond and I'm good! Plus seeing that beautiful smile...... Oh yeah, can't wait!
Mar. 21, 2013 5:38 am
Yeah! Candice, I will be watching the stars and hopinng for their proper alignment!
Mar. 21, 2013 6:13 am
Oh I do wish I could come! I had great fun last year keeping up with Mauigirl's adventures as she made it across the country. One of these days....
Mar. 21, 2013 8:19 am
Baking Nana, I don't think Julie will be repeating another stealth mode showup. Last year's about did her in LOLOL! Oh what the heck, all you have to do is hop on a plane to get here :)
Mar. 24, 2013 6:09 pm
I am gonna try my darned to be there...scissors in hand. (o:
Mar. 25, 2013 9:07 am
1gdcowgirl gone, boy do I hope so!!! I'd love to see you with or without the scissors! Although, I could sure use the "do-over".
Mar. 25, 2013 6:47 pm
C'mon, cowgirl! Ya gotta be there!
Mar. 26, 2013 12:26 am
Cat Hill: Getting together with AR peeps has been an incredible experience that I will always treasure. I loved the photos from your 2012 Roundup. Everyone had such a wonderful time at your beautiful property. I would like to one day travel to some Roundups that are farther away, but, until then, it'll just have to be a dream...
Mar. 26, 2013 6:52 am
bikerfamily, you are so right it is so much fun to meet other AR peeps! It's even better when you get to do repeats :) I wish you could come too! Maybe next year :)

About Me
I live in the middle of the U.S. in a farming communtiy. Gardening, reading and cooking are the things you'll mostly find me doing. I also enjoy horseback riding & my many pets. A husband & teen, I have 1 of each.
My favorite things to cook
Bread & BBQ are 2 of my favorite things to cook. I do enjoy a food challenge. Last year it was curing my own brisket for Corned beef & pastrami & porkloin for Canadian bacon. This year sausages & scratch cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bread and brittle. I learned to bake bread with my Mom. It was her favorite thing to make. My Aunt made the best peanut brittle ever. She'd stopped making it in the later years but when I told her how much I enjoyed her brittle, she opened the vault ,gave me the recipe & handed over the brittle torch to me.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out the way I wanted it to or exceeds my expectations! Like my homemade bratwurst.
My cooking tragedies
Let's not go there! I prefer not to think about my kitchen disasters besides my child can gleefully recount all of them.
