Midwest Missouri Roundup Reminder!

Day 50 and counting till the 3rd annual Middle of the Midwest Missouri Roundup on June 9th, 2012. Well, actually it is the 8th, 9th and 10th. Yes, I should have had this blog done by day 60. I promised Magnolia Blossom it would be done last weekend. I can hear her slight concerns in her emails that yet again I will not have everything done on time. See, she has always arrived here on Friday night and been armed for action on Saturday morning. I must say she has been quite the blessing to me in the past. She and bhawk have jumped in and helped out to make things go smoothly for the last 2 roundups. In fact, I believe MB is quite familiar with my kitchen and knows where my vacumn live.

Why is this year different? Friday night there is a Relay for Life walk in the neighboring town and Mike Harvey has organized some of the roundup attendees in joining him for that walk. Here are the links to two of his past blogs if you would like more info.
Cancer seems to touch all of us in some way and it is really a neat thing that Mike goes out of his way to find events that he can attend no matter where he is.

If you have been toying with the idea of coming to a roundup in your area and this one fits in, please don't feel you have to attend the walk to attend the roundup. The actual roundup is the 9th at my house. Yes, we do have returning faces but don't let that stop you either. Each year there have been new faces attending and what a blast it is for all of us to see our friends from the previous year and to add new friends to our group. Lunch will be served at 1:00pm and BBQ is on the menu. Sunday a brunch will be served for those that have stayed over either here at my house or at the surrounding motels. Please email me at cathillcafe@yahoo.com if you would like any information and would like to come.

I feel I need to apologise to some of my friends before I get to the list of this years attendees. So, sueb, saw some really good food photos. Want the recipes for one I saw. Southern Gma, miss you but I do know you are up and kicking. Redly, that was a fluke I managed to make it back for your limerick blog. petey, excellent job on Pippin's. For those that are used to "talking" to me, I've been in the garden or cleaning poo. No, seriously! That has been what I've been doing. Missouri weather is fickle at best and if you have nice days they have to be used especially if you have more than a 10 X 10 flower or garden area. Which is looking pretty good right now.

I can not believe some of the stuff that is blooming right now. Flowers that should be out for Mother's Day may hit their peak and be gone. I couldn't believe I found this little red stinker. They were expected to be ready for the roundup so I could serve organic fresh strawberries on a fruit tray. Ugh! Doesn't look like that will happen.

As for the poo, we added 8 animals to the household. The 2 horses moved down here to live and I decided I wanted fresh eggs so I added 6 hens. And yes, as with all animals they do seem to fall under my jurisdiction. I actually thought the DS would be more of a help with the horses. To give you a little insight into his thinking he walked into the house shortly after the horses moved in and announced, "It's staying pretty clean in the stalls and the barn area." My eyebrows shot up past my hairline, I believe, as I opened my mouth to say, "NO, (fill in the blank) Sherlock!". His father was wise enough to say, " that could be cause your Mother cleans the pen daily".

If you are wondering why the DH doesn't help with any of the gardening. This is what he did to my flowering crab. The tree that I potted and drug in and out of the garage for 3 years. Planted it in the hen pen for shade and 5 days later......

Here is a list of this year's attendees as I know it at the moment:

For sures-
Magnolia Blossom
Lady Sparkle
Mike Harvey and his lovely wife
Candace and her daughter
Cindy Lepp

Pretty sure-

Wanting to come but will let me know closer to date-

and a lady that for the life of me I can't remember your screen name at the moment.

Friday night hardy appetizers will be served for those coming in at different times. There is still some room in the camper. Saturday is lunch. Sunday is brunch. If you want to come or want more info please email me. For those attending other roundups, have safe travels because you will have a blast!

I'd do the heart thingy but I always get it wrong  :)(:

Apr. 20, 2012 5:39 pm
Lady Sparkle, yeah! I can't wait to see you lovely ladies. It is kind of like waiting for Christmas morning :)
Apr. 20, 2012 5:41 pm

Apr. 20, 2012 5:44 pm
Mike, my best laid plans are for Friday being my wrap up day. For once I don't want Magnolia Blossom to feel compelled to run the vacumn and mop the kitchen floor. She is the best in houseguests! bhawk is supposed to come early on Friday so Saturday the plan is to ENJOY each others company and EAT and HAVE a GREAT day!
Apr. 20, 2012 6:00 pm
A kiss and a hug from me for everyone!! Cindy is just a'hoppin everywhere LOL! I should get to see her the week before in Ohio.

Apr. 20, 2012 7:46 pm
West coast checking in. Dang....I wished I could be there with you all. (as opposed to y'all). Cat, you are going to love Candice & Christine. They are just real, honest to God, fun loving people that are just dang fun to be around. One of my best memories was when MB came out here and the 4 of us got together. Such a fun time. Some day, some day....Of course, I wouldn't be able to make that weekend anyway even if I could come, because that's the weekend that Ivon graduates.
Apr. 20, 2012 9:04 pm
I think I am the "lady that for the life of me I can't remember your screen name at the moment". I'm fairly sure I will be there for Saturday lunch. I'll keep in touch.
Apr. 21, 2012 2:49 am
I hope you have a great time! I wish I could be there! Enjoy the food, the folks and the fun!
Apr. 21, 2012 4:37 am
Avon, you know Magnolia Blossom shared some of her stories from her visit :) Just makes me want to get to the West coast! If you are EVER in this area schedule some time together, I'm up for mini-roundups :) Mother Ann wanted to come but there just wasn't enough time for her so whenever she does make it here we are going to tour some of our local wineries. I am so excited Candace and Christina are coming! Congrats to your Grad!
Apr. 21, 2012 4:48 am
Mel's cookin Now!, you're right I could not remember your screen name (you and one other lady) but I had you on my notebook's "pretty sure" list! I just managed to leave you off the blog list, sorry! I do hope you can come. It will be a lot of fun and if you need to stay over there is still room in the camper. Magnolia Blossom said the decent motels in Kearney are filling fast. Keep in touch :)
Apr. 21, 2012 4:50 am
sueb, I wish you could come too! I think one of the recipes I want is for that black bean burger I saw. Now off to read your blog and see what new recipes you discovered :)(:
Apr. 21, 2012 8:48 am
Have a great time, Cat! How fun Mike has organized the walk! Have fun and be safe!!
Apr. 21, 2012 9:37 am
LOL! Glad Avon checked in for the PNW; as right now I'm a SoCal Gal. (yep, still in sunny California and loving every second of NO RAIN.)Christine & I will be there with bells on Cat. We are very excited and can't wait! See you soon.
Apr. 21, 2012 10:37 am
mickdee, we will! These roundups are SOOOO much fun. Everyone should try and get to one in their area if they can or do like some of the other guys and gals-VACATION DESTINATION! Thanks for stopping in!
Apr. 21, 2012 10:40 am
Candace, I can't wait to see you and your daughter, Christina. I'm so excited that you 2 are coming all the way here. Missouri might not have the mountains of the West or the oceans of the South but it does have a certain charm all its own. Can't wait to share it with you two :)(:
Apr. 21, 2012 1:46 pm
Hehe, your partner in crime checking in. I can't wait! Hmmm... let me know when the winery round-up might take place. You've got 4 willing bodies for Saturday morning (or just push us out of your way). I swear Cat can be in 3 places at the same time. Your gardening efforts will be a triumph. I know you've worked long and hard and the mild weather has given you a major jump start. For those attending for the first time, you will be in for a treat. All sorts of gardening nooks and surprises at each turn. Love ya!
Apr. 22, 2012 6:06 am
Ugh! I missed your post yesterday. I checked the time and thought I was the last one on. Sorry!! When Mother Ann hoped she could come to our roundup, she needed a bit more leverage to talk her husband into driving all the way here so I looked into local wineries. We have some really good ones really close. I had no idea so later we will have to do a mini roundup and do the tours :) I really plan on having this done unlike the last 2 times :) I don't know about being in 3 places at once but I do feel like I'm speeding up cause I certainly am thinning down. Can't wait to see you!
Apr. 22, 2012 6:30 am
Oh, wow! What a great list! Wish I could make it! I've had the great pleasure of meeting MB, LS, Candice, and Christine. The last three are coming to yours but not the Vegas thing this year, but I'm so glad to share them because you'll love them. You'll have such fun! BTW, I get to see MB again this year!
Apr. 22, 2012 6:39 am
Hi, Marianne! MB has told us how lovely it has been to meet all of you. I am so excited that LS can come and that Candice (just realized I've been spelling her name wrong) & Christine are coming all the way here. Can't wait to meet Mike Harvey and his wife. Actually, I can't wait to see all the new faces and enjoy the returning ones. Roundups are so much fun!
Apr. 22, 2012 6:46 am
Cat - a soup and wine mini-roundup sounds like so much fun! I'd love to get out there for such a fun time. It's gonna happen some day - I'm going to do some looking into hunting or flyfishing possibilities in the area as well. Time is always a problem for us. Working at a school is great, but I can't take vacation time just anytime I want -it has to coincide with school breaks. I donated to the team of AR walkers participating in the Relay for Life; I figure I could at least do that. You guys have fun!
Apr. 22, 2012 8:36 am
It was suggested by Mangel once that we have a fall roundup and have soups on the menu. I thought it was a great idea but DH can't eat soup. After looking up winery info, it hit me that towards the fall a mini roundup could have soups on the menu after touring some wineries :)Flyfishing is for ? Trout? That's down south. Do any other fish like flies? Shows you what I know. I'd have to ask Alan what all kind of bird hunting we have. Deer season is November. June to August is your open time, right? Don't suppose he'd like to fish for catfish. We have those outback :)(:
Apr. 22, 2012 1:29 pm
Hi CAT ~ its a little up in the air for me. Now that we have the seattle trip also, I am struggling to get the time for two trips. So frustrating. I will certainly let you know in the next couple of weeks.
Apr. 22, 2012 2:58 pm
That's fine! Life does have a way of rearranging plans. I know that all too well :)
Apr. 24, 2012 10:31 am
I'm coming, I don't care what my husband says about finances and gas prices, I'll be there (did I mention the 9th is our 22nd wedding anniversary?) I'M STILL COMING.LMAO, in the middle of this rant, my husband called! Do you think that's a sign? Anyway, my point is, if you can get to one of this events, then do it. It's a great time with great people, and seeing this years guest list has made me anticipate the weekend even more!
Apr. 24, 2012 4:15 pm
I thought the old man was coming too! You said you hadn't really done anything on your anniversary and I guarantee he will have good food and fun :)
Apr. 25, 2012 2:00 pm
He keeps going back and forth on me. Who knows what he'll end up doing, lol.
May 25, 2012 6:19 pm
Have fun you peeps! As if you needed me to tell you that, lol! We want all the details..........and lots of pics!!
May 25, 2012 6:41 pm
bellepepper. you get to go first for the Midwest :) I do know you will all have a good time and I am so excited that Mother Ann gets to come. A bit of a bummer that you get Cindy but we don't. Oh well, safe travels to all and yes, we will have a good time. All of us at all the roundups!!!

About Me
I live in the middle of the U.S. in a farming communtiy. Gardening, reading and cooking are the things you'll mostly find me doing. I also enjoy horseback riding & my many pets. A husband & teen, I have 1 of each.
My favorite things to cook
Bread & BBQ are 2 of my favorite things to cook. I do enjoy a food challenge. Last year it was curing my own brisket for Corned beef & pastrami & porkloin for Canadian bacon. This year sausages & scratch cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bread and brittle. I learned to bake bread with my Mom. It was her favorite thing to make. My Aunt made the best peanut brittle ever. She'd stopped making it in the later years but when I told her how much I enjoyed her brittle, she opened the vault ,gave me the recipe & handed over the brittle torch to me.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out the way I wanted it to or exceeds my expectations! Like my homemade bratwurst.
My cooking tragedies
Let's not go there! I prefer not to think about my kitchen disasters besides my child can gleefully recount all of them.
