I find it hard to believe how fast time has flown since Magnolia Blossom and I had our Midwest Roundup in November. Seems like it was just a week or so ago that Brenda and I were sitting in the sunroom the morning after we had seen MB off on her long drive
home. Even though the roundup was barely over, our conversation turned to organizing another one. Yes, the day before was that much fun. I say “we” but it was really Brenda doing the brainstorming. She was so excited about the prospect that she bubbled over
with ideas. When we could have it, what we could do different, how we could lay out things and what kind of food to serve. I laughed to myself while I waited for her to realize she was completely planning an event for me to host. I thought it was so sweet
of her to have had so much fun at my house she wanted to come back and do it again! (If you want to see what we did the first time http://allrecipes.com/Cook/13436831/BlogEntry.aspx?postid=205459 &
Why is it a Mostly Middle Midwest Roundup//Reunion? Because what is considered the Midwest covers lots of territory with many AR cooks living in it. If you look at a map of the U.S., I am right about in the middle. They didn’t call Independence, MO the
jumping off point to the West for no reason! I may live some miles northwest of Independence but stick a pin in the map where I do live and it looks pretty much like the middle to me :) (: Was it to be a reunion or a roundup? We decided it had to be both.
A reunion of those that were here the first time would be so great! Yet there were some that had wanted to come in November but couldn’t due to conflicts. What about anyone else who wanted to come? A roundup it had to be! Why the mostly? Well, Brenda thought
September would be the ideal time for a roundup//reunion. The weather would be nice enough to be outside and anyone wishing to do so could camp out, but I have a big # birthday this year. It has also been quite the year of change at this house. How else to
ease into realizing you’re reaching an age that at 19 you thought was old but now it doesn’t look quite so ancient? Not to mention adjusting to all the new changes? I can’t think of a better way than to invite old friends, make new friends and have lots of
great food! Mi Be Mi if you can come, will you bring the baked beans?! We are still commenting on how good those were. Who could forget Lisa’s Almond Grahams that were so highly addictive?
So what is the plan we came up with? To have the roundup//reunion over the weekend of July 30th & 31st and to offer a range of sleeping spots. Gas prices weren’t near as bad then as they are threatening to be this summer but even
back then, we thought for anyone driving any distance they might like to overnight it. Now it rather looks like a weekend vacation wasn’t such a bad idea. There are all kinds of historic sites in and around Kansas City. Kansas City also can claim an amusement/water
park. Not on the scale of Branson’s but for anyone trying to get the most out of their travel $, it is an option. There are sleeping accommodations ranging from B&B’s to motels in the area and, of course, camping. For those wishing to bring their DH’s or other
family members, my DH is into NASCAR, hunting, motorcycles and sports cars. If there is a NASCAR race that weekend he will be planted in front of a TV watching it :)(:
