It was a Great Year!

As we say goodbye to another year - it is time to reflect and look back on the great memories that 2012 brought us.  It was quite a year!

Christmas came early for me this year.

I could have called this segment,

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles"

Although I am not sure that trains were actually involved.  But we did have lots of planes and automobiles involved in this years AR Southern California Round Up.  This was not just a Round Up -This was a Three day event - and a slumber party to boot!

November 30, 2012

First up in the arrival schedule was AZ Desert Mom - Jennifer from Arizona - she was a complete surprise to everyone but me.

I picked her up from the airport at 8 AM

We came back to the house re-grouped and then headed back to the airport.   It is a good thing it isn't a long drive!

I circled around the airport - waiting to pick up LindaT  at 10:50 - where I got warned by the airport cop to "Keep Moving"

So around and around I went - stopping at  11:30 to pick up Mauigirl-Julie at 11:30 from Vegas.  Boy was she surprised to see Jennifer!  So, AZ Desert Mom, LindaT, Mauigirl and I set off again.

Mauigirl had rented a car, so off we went to the car rental where I had her take LindaT with her.  Why?  Cause, although they didn't know it,  I would not have had enough room in my vehicle!

Off I went again, circling the airport, waving to the airport cop as I went around.  (By now I am sure he had my plate number......)  Until it was time to pick up ~lissa~  but being pregnant she had to use the restroom and stall a little bit.  Why?  Cause we had another surprise visitor coming in at 12:30 from Illinios!  Magnolia Blossom!

The timing was perfect - we swooped in and grabbed Magnolia Blossom - circled around once, waved to the airport cop - who I am sure scowled at me, snagged ~lissa~  and headed back to meet Mauigirl at the car rental place.

Imagine the surprise when I showed up with a car full!  Back to the house we went - where we had soup and sandwiches waiting.  Everyone made themselves at home and I was off again, back to the airport (like I said, good thing it is close by) to get bikerfamily from Washington State!

I have to say, I would have taken pictures at the airport but I would probably have been detained by the airport Cop.

 Julie - mauigirl, ~lissa~, LindaT -

Mauigirl, Magnolia Blossom, LindaT and ~lissa~

We were all settled in at the house with a fire in the fireplace, rain falling and full tummies - chatter echoing through the day and then it was time to head to Riverside to see the Festival of Lights and meet bd.weld and his lovely bride!

Let me tell you - these ARPeeps are WONDERFUL!

The next day brought more joy!  Peeps were arriving from all over!  Many from So. Cal and also Candice from Oregon joined us.

Magnolia Blossom and Candice

I hate to forget anyone - or any thing - honestly, this day went by in a flash, everything was so wonderful.

First Lady Angelica brought us "Real Enchilada Sauce"

Triple Dog Dare - Brian and Linda

Brian and Angelica aka First Lady

Lower right is Noemi - the Queen of Baked Ziti

Julie and Cathy Myers - are they practicing the hula?

We played long into the night.   It was a Round Up and a slumber party, all rolled into one!

How blessed we are!  AllRecipes has brought me great joy, through the Buzz and through the Ambassador Program.   Thank you all for enriching my life.

Happy New Year!

For some reason when I began to read your blog the song "Going In Circles" popped into my head. Good thing the airport is close. It was so fun to meet new peeps. Sad thing is that there always seems to be not enough time. Happy New Year to you and NBP.

BN: This past year certainly makes history in my mind. You and a handful of AR friends met me at Snoqualmie Falls this summer just prior to the AR gathering in Seattle. (I could have been some crazy lady who might not have shown up!?! How could you know?) And we ended the year at your beautiful abode at the Southern California Christmas Roundup. The friendships and support and camaraderie brought together by the website is astounding to me. I am forever grateful for your bringing us all together. Thank you!

Oh, and I forgot to mention what fun we had with Chef Marla at PHOOD on Main and buying her SuperShit Spices. Hope this doesn't get censored. It's really good stuff.

About Me
Every morning my granddaughter calls and says, "Good morning Nana. Whatcha doing? Are you baking Nana?" Hence my name, Baking Nana. I love to bake bread and never get tired of it. Yeast is additive! Visit me at If you would like to contact me directly please use the 'Contact Me' on my site.
My favorite things to cook
I go through phases, Asian for a while then Italian then on to something else. I love experimenting with new flavors and different spices. Some times my husband will ask if we will ever have "ordinary" food again. Once in a while I have to toss him a burger just to keep quite! Actually, he is a good sport and my favorite taste tester.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In our family if it is your birthday you get to choose the menu. We have had some really interesting meals. In March we have 5 birthdays so we do one big party - what a crazy menu that is! Christmas dinner is very traditional. Sausage rolls, Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, gravy, Green beans with bacon, Mashed Potatoes (the really fattening kind) and trifle for dessert. If I were to dare to omit any of those items I would be lynched.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering really great bread is probably my biggest triumph. I am always so pleased when I create a perfect Asian dish.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few but none so horrible that I can't laugh about them now.
