It Took a Leap of Faith

Like the children's book, "If you give a Mouse a Cookie" so has been our journey with AllRecipes.  Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and good things come your way.

If we hadn't signed up....

If we hadn't found the Buzz ...

If we hadn't posted....

If we hadn't agreed to be a part of the Ambassador program...

I wouldn't have met the friends I have met - we wouldn't have had the adventures we have had.

It goes against the grain to trust a bunch of online 'friends'.

Trust them enough to drive several hours to meet for lunch.

Trust that you 'know' them well enough.

That leap of faith paid off in so many ways this past July in Seattle.

How happy I am that we all took that leap of faith.

Let me introduce you to bikerfamily.  This brave woman drove for hours to meet 5 crazy strangers for lunch.  We had arranged to meet at the Salish Lodge at  Snoqualmie Falls, WA.

Baking Nana, Bibi, Mauigirl, Occasional Cooker and Magnolia Blossom

With Mauigirl at the helm, Magnolia Blossom, Bibi, Occasional Cooker and I piled into the rental car and headed out to meet bikerfamily.  We were carrying our orange AllRecipes bags hoping we would be easy to spot.  Mind you, we did approach several single women hoping to locate bikerfamily, probably scared the tar out of a few too, until we found her.  Hugs ensued and all was well.  We were off on another adventure!

  Snoqualmie Falls, WA

Lunch was fabulous and the company was even better.  We had a lovely bottle of wine, Salmon Chowder, Caesar Salad, Fish and Chips, Crab and Shrimp, Eggplant Panini, and finished it off Lavender Creme Brulee and Flourless Chocolate Cake.

Baking Nana, Ocassional Cooker, Mauigirl, bikerfamily, Bibi, Magnolia Blossom

Bikerfamily brought us 4 bags of Washington

Cherries!  What a treat those were.

Time flew by and soon it was time to say goodbye.  I think I speak for the whole group when I say this was a fabulous adventure.

Thank you for taking that  leap of faith,

these are memories that will last a lifetime.

Oh, Baking Nana. I so wish there were other AR friends really close to me to socialize with in person. The closest one I know of is 4 hours away. Only one! Looks like you had fun with each other. Love your pics!

Thanks for making me smile, Baking Nana! And I might add, to those who are thinking, "I'd like to do that some day," you must put a round up or gathering on your calendar! Just like lunch with dear friends, it won't happen until you make a date. I saw this on Facebook today, and I agree: "One of these days your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching."

Aug. 21, 2012 3:03 pm
Thanks for stopping in Paula. We were lucky enough to get to Seattle a couple of days early and Bikerfamily was kind enough to drive a LONG way to meet us. We saw some beautiful country side and got some good giggles in too. Don't ever miss a chance to meet more of these wonderful people.

Aug. 21, 2012 3:04 pm
Very nicely done, Baking Nana! One of these days we'll get bikerfamily down this way!

Aug. 21, 2012 3:04 pm
Bibi - I was grinning the whole time I was putting this together. You ladies make me smile. Wasn't that soup the best? Not to mention the desserts - works of art! I agree - Live Life to the Fullest! You are an adventurer, my friend. :)

Aug. 21, 2012 3:05 pm
I know that if she was the chance we will definately get together again. We might all have to go back to Washington, too!

All I remembered was how good it was, and how much we laughed!

Aug. 21, 2012 3:34 pm
Gosh we laughed! My jaw hurt from smiling so much. What a great adventure!

How nice to live so close to only drive a couple hours to visit. I'd sure love that. I feel so far away. And to think I used to live in Calif. It sure looks like you all had so much fun. A bunch of nice lookin gals. :)

Aug. 21, 2012 5:16 pm
Hi Sherri - we all flew to Seattle and then bikerfamily had to drive hours to meet us. We were lucky to come in a couple of days early and she had the time off work to meet us. I sure wish you were in California! We would snag you in a heart beat. Where is California were you from? Don't miss a chance to meet these fine people. You will have a blast!

Aug. 21, 2012 5:29 pm
It was an absolutely magical day Baking Nana. I am truly lucky to have all of you in my life :)

Aug. 21, 2012 5:46 pm
Beautiful ladies, great photos and a wonderful story! Now, pass that Creme Brulee my way please!

Aug. 21, 2012 6:09 pm
It sounds like you had a marvelously fun time! Too bad the rest of us weren't there to join in the fun. And yes, I do believe it was a leap of faith. But just look how it turned out!

Aug. 21, 2012 6:30 pm
mauigirl - you took that leap of faith years ago when you threw caution to the wind and drove from Vegas to California with two pies to share with a bunch of strangers ..... look how many adventures we have had since then! Many more to come too! Maui 2013???? Let's Go!

Aug. 21, 2012 6:34 pm
Wyattdogster - it was so good to meet you! Those tales and pics will be in the next blog. How lucky we are to have had this opportunity! Some of these moments are truly 'once in a life time' moments. Life is short - I am so happy to have you in the memory banks! As for that Creme Brulee, yes - you should have been there to share with us! It was PRIMO!

Aug. 21, 2012 6:37 pm
RedApple - one of these days we will all meet up - somehow - somewhere. Don't miss the opportunity! Take the Leap of Faith! You will be greeted with hugs and laughter! Oh - BTW - you were all there with us in spirit!

Aug. 21, 2012 7:42 pm
Absolutely awesome time that we had! I was so jealous of the blogs about the Ohio and SoCal meets that I took that leap of faith with Cat Hill and have never looked back since. I've met sooo many wonderful folks, many are now considered close friends. Thank you for sharing our journey with the rest of AR.

Aug. 21, 2012 7:54 pm
Hi Magnolia Blossom - I have to say that if bikerfamily had not held out her hand in friendship we would never have taken this trip, seen the beauty of the Falls or met her. How blessed we are to have such brave friends! Thank you for being the adventurer that you are!

Aug. 21, 2012 8:07 pm
LOL! It's easy to be the "roaming gnome" when you have such a great incentive to go. I'm sure bikerfamily is glad she made that first contact with you. It was awesome meeting her.

Aug. 21, 2012 8:34 pm
Seattle was such an amazing experience, I so wish I had AR friends closer to me!

Aug. 21, 2012 8:48 pm
Love it. Last year I took that same leap of faith and went from Oregon to Florida for the first Southern roundup. My husband thought that I was crazy. He kept telling me that people that you meet on the internet were not what they seemed nor where they the same people that they said they were. I told him that he was crazy and that I was going anyway. I met lifelong friends there and in 3 weeks will be going to the second Southern Roundup. Everyone, please, if you have a chance to take that leap of faith, please do it. You won't regret it. Thanks Baking Nana, it was so good to meet you and all of the other Ambassador's in Seattle. Here's hoping that we can all meet again another day.

Aug. 21, 2012 8:53 pm
Magnolia Blossom - I still chuckle about the Taxi driver in Las Vegas that hit his breaks and tried to 'protect' Marianne when he heard her say, "How will I know who you are?" LOL!

Aug. 21, 2012 8:55 pm
GreenGirl - it was so good to meet you! Seattle was such as amazing adventure - what a special gift it was. We will meet again!

Aug. 21, 2012 8:57 pm
Pelicangal - you are a true adventurer! That was a real leap of faith! I am glad you are heading to the Southern Round Up again this year. I wish I could join you. Think of the rest of us while you are sitting on the white sands with a cocktail in your hand. :)

Aug. 21, 2012 9:50 pm
BN: Well written! It was an absolutely magical day. I am still feeling the positive effects of meeting with such an amazing group of ladies. It lifts my soul. We will meet again. That's a promise.

Aug. 22, 2012 9:28 pm
1. I am SO selfish! [I wanna go to ALL the round-ups!] and, 2. I'm afraid to ask what was said (= [Like the time I was so excited to see my friends that I tripped up the steps at the Harley - lol! (=] 3. We do need to go to Tom's again - AND, The Restaurant should be opening soon! I'll have to check their schedule!

Aug. 22, 2012 9:52 pm
I too would like to go to all the Round Ups and doing my best to meet all the wonderful ARPeeps. No worries, nobody remembers your 'graceful' entrance into the Harley more than you do! The Restaurant would be good any time and a revisit to Tom's would be stellar! Pick a date, I will be there!

Aug. 23, 2012 8:09 am
Hey Baking Nana I grew up in Sunnymead, now Moreno City (between Riverside and Palm Springs). I went to H.S. and RCC there, moved to FL in 78'...never been back. Got a big class reunion in October and some friends are tying to get me to go, but just not able to swing it budget wise this fall. One day I'll make it to one of the west gatherings.

Aug. 23, 2012 10:52 am
Gosh Sherri - Moreno Valley isn't that far from me. If you ever make it out here please let us know. We will throw a "Bash" in your honor. :)

Aug. 24, 2012 12:24 pm
Sounds like a great plan. :)

Aug. 25, 2012 10:30 am
hi gal! it's certainly a leap of faith. i still can't believe pelicangal came from so far away. she had to wait for another screwball, cindylepp, to be there and pick her up. cindy drove ! 8 hours and then spent the night in north atl. to make sure she would get her. folks traveled from all over, many miles...a leap of faith...yep! incredibile! less than 3 weeks to 2nd round-up...many mor folks coming, all on their own dime. just trusting souls. isn't it great! you hear so much bad about the internet...but this a community here. i pour my heart out to "my girls". i love them all! get in gear hopefully next year!

Baking Nana, sorry to ask recipe questions during the recounting of your get together, but how long did you bake the cheddar pudding- and what size ramekin did you use? Carry on- tell more about your Washington adventure. Isn't the Salish Lodge just wonderful?!

Aug. 30, 2012 2:34 pm
coloradocookie - Gosh I hope you see this as this blog has fallen off the top list. I used a 4" ramekin and baked for just about 20 minutes as directed. The Salish Lodge is wonderful! I hope to visit again sometime.

About Me
Every morning my granddaughter calls and says, "Good morning Nana. Whatcha doing? Are you baking Nana?" Hence my name, Baking Nana. I love to bake bread and never get tired of it. Yeast is additive! Visit me at BakingNana.com If you would like to contact me directly please use the 'Contact Me' on my site. http://bakingnana.com/contact-me/
My favorite things to cook
I go through phases, Asian for a while then Italian then on to something else. I love experimenting with new flavors and different spices. Some times my husband will ask if we will ever have "ordinary" food again. Once in a while I have to toss him a burger just to keep quite! Actually, he is a good sport and my favorite taste tester.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In our family if it is your birthday you get to choose the menu. We have had some really interesting meals. In March we have 5 birthdays so we do one big party - what a crazy menu that is! Christmas dinner is very traditional. Sausage rolls, Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, gravy, Green beans with bacon, Mashed Potatoes (the really fattening kind) and trifle for dessert. If I were to dare to omit any of those items I would be lynched.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering really great bread is probably my biggest triumph. I am always so pleased when I create a perfect Asian dish.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few but none so horrible that I can't laugh about them now.
