Here we go again!
Breaking the rules and stirring it up.
Another Southern California AllRecipes gathering!
What a wonderful day!

We had all heard about North Woods Inn.
Famous for their salads and cheese bread.
Snow on the roof all year long.
This is where we met.
Good food, friendship and tons of laughter!

Here is Cathy Myers greeting our youngest member Tina.

Cathy and XRay Barb - Patty Cakes on the right.

Mauigirl - Cathy  and Marianne
Yes, Mauigirl flew in from Las Vegas.

Cathy brought a basket of cookies. LindaT's recipes.

Then Cathy surprised Mauigirl Julie.

Seems that Cathy got two of the magnets that Trishie sent from Ireland.
Cathy brought Julie's magnet!

Here is PattyCakes - touched by emotion.
Happy tears.
Cathy gave her the necklace she is wearing.

Then of course there were more tears and hugs.

This is the restaurant.
Peanut shells on the floor and all.

Neomi & sister Gabriela
Check out the menu.

Crime fighter Julie explains how she tracked down
and chased a con artist / thief from her neighborhood.
I am sure that guy is still wondering what happened!

OK - Redneck Gramma - who's purse belongs to whom?
Here is the happy AR crew.
Stirring it up in Covina, California.

Starting on the left:  Noemi, Gabriela, Mauigirl Julie, Cathy Myers, PattyCakes, XRay Barb, Tina, Baking Nana, Marianne, Kathy (Keri's mom) and Keri.

Some pictures of the gifts that were brought and shared.

' Mauigirl Julie brought us each an amazing spice rub and a recipe for 'Forever Roasted Pork.'

LindaT's recipes.

Here are the cookies that Cathy Myers brought.
So good!

Look what Lady Sparkle sent!
She is so talented.
Thank you, LS!

A little addendum:

“Take the good that comes to you.”
I try to remember these wise words that have made such an impact on me and accept, even welcome, the kindness of others and the good that is sent my way.
How many times do we push off another’s kindness or friendship?
How many times do we deny ourselves the most important things in life?
The things that make us happy?  Why?
When planning for this gathering I could have said, "I need to stay home and pack or sort or clean or any number of things.'
I am SO glad I didn't pass up the chance to see all my AR foodie friends.
I came home - walking on air - tired from lack of sleep but energized beyond belief.
Thank you all for attending, for thinking of us, for sharing your lives, talents and adventures with us.
Knowing all of you has blessed and enriched my life.
You all bring me joy!
Sep. 17, 2011 7:27 pm

Sep. 17, 2011 7:48 pm
Linda - your cookies are wonderful. Shoot - I will have to look and see if I have a pic of Marianne's cookies. I hope so - we already ate all of them. :) Delish!
Sep. 17, 2011 8:01 pm
Oh, great photos, Ba'Nana! I won't blog with the photos until I have time to figure out how on earth to do that! Oh, man! It is SOOO hard to be tech challenged! But I will post them on AR!

Sep. 17, 2011 9:13 pm
We had such a good time. I will contact you soon to set sort out the details for the cookie decorating. I promise!! ((((Big Hugs))) back to you. And to think you started it all by opening your home and your heart to all of us at that first gathering. :)
Sep. 17, 2011 9:46 pm
Just walked through the door. Stopped at the Red Rock and had a bite to eat. Dug around in my bag for Marianne & Cathy's cookies. Most of them got crushed in the flight. So I poured the crumbs into an empty bowl and ate them with a spoon for dessert. mmmmmmYummy. BTW I have my mouth flapping in just about every pic here. Did I drive all of you nuts? I also see a few spelling errors.....could that be because we are all dragging our butts after a grueling day of pure JOY. I love every one of you and I find so much wonder at a group of women who truly admire and love each other so much....... who actually hooked up on the "net"! XOXOXOXO Exhausted. night night girls:)
Sep. 17, 2011 10:03 pm
mauigirl - only a couple of spelling errors! LOL - please! I find more everytime I look! This has to set the record for the most edited blog EVER! :)
Sep. 17, 2011 10:07 pm
We were all flapping our jaws and loving every minute of it! :) I think there was a lot of pent up talking waiting for a release. It couldn't have come at a better time for me!
Sep. 17, 2011 10:14 pm
LOBSTER! You just MUST do one of these - you MUST! If you don't you will force us to come kidnap you! :)
Sep. 17, 2011 10:59 pm
Mauigirl - I just pulled out the pork to do your "Forever Pork" can't wait to try it! Thank you!
Sep. 17, 2011 11:20 pm
Oh my gosh! *tears of JOY* Lunch and a field trip! What a blast! Familiar faces from LV (where I left my heart). Thank you for the amazing blog BN. Beautiful pics! I could (almost) feel Cathy M.'s hugs, and hear Mauigirl's heroic adventure. The laughter and tears. . . I'm LOL'ing at the purses!! The spice rub and cookies look wonderful! I'm going for the big lotto win :) Then I can go to all of these (Dreams are a GOOD thing). XOXOXO
Sep. 17, 2011 11:24 pm
So, I'm just a little delayed . . . I jumped up to take the rub out of my purse, and realized that the bag is a pineapple - how cute! [Don't mind me (=]
Sep. 18, 2011 5:54 am

Sep. 18, 2011 6:33 am
Great blog BN! Looks like you all had a wonderful time. I'm feeling a bit "green" too! :~)
Sep. 18, 2011 8:56 am
Redneck Gramma.......I see way too many clues for you to figure the purse/peep thing out :) BTW girls, I am still grinning from ear to ear XO
Sep. 18, 2011 8:56 am
WOW. Looks like you all had a great time. I am still amazed that we have al1 made some great friends here on AllRecipes. (Some that we haven't met yet, but only 2 days to go). So happy that you had fun.

Wish I could do the Florida party next weekend.
Sep. 18, 2011 9:01 am

Sep. 18, 2011 9:04 am

Sep. 18, 2011 9:07 am
Lady Sparkle - Thanks so much for sending your wash clothes. I love them. Hurry up and win the Lotto!
Sep. 18, 2011 9:23 am
Oh My Goodness Sakes! Look at all of you! So beautiful and having such a good time. After reading through the events of your blog, I'm pretending I was there...I was you know in spirit. I love you all so much! I love the "purse" game too. I'm gonna guess the biggest one is Julie's and the smallest one is yours. Am I right? Am I right?
Sep. 18, 2011 9:30 am
Good morning Candice! The next time you are down this way we will plan another gathering. :) Let us know - we always need an excuse for another hen party. As for the purses - RNG has to chime in. Can't give her any extra clues. :)
Sep. 18, 2011 9:31 am
Yep Linda T I want those recipes!!!!!! Excellent cookies. Not too sweet.......just right like Mama bear said:)
Sep. 18, 2011 9:35 am
On this grey, wet dreary MO day this was the perfect blog to brighten my day! Such lovely photos. For some reason I'm hungry for cookies right now! LOL! A tad bit green with envy but so glad you all had such a lovely time!
Sep. 18, 2011 9:49 am
Cat - Those cookies are perfect. You all were with us in spirit. A good hen party is good for the soul!
Sep. 18, 2011 10:32 am
OMG, I am so jealous, you all look beautiful. I want cookies now. I was bopping on to find a recipe for canning maters and glanced too far on the buzz and had to quickly come read this blog. So purses, eh? Let me just say first off that my sued purple purse would have fit right in:D So Barbie must have the largest purse so the left back is hers, moving right-gold one, hmm not sure but if I was to go off personalities I would guess Cathy Meyers, black and white patch work/animal print-Keri, all recipes bag-since Noemi and Gabriella are new to the mix, I am guessing one of them got the bag....front striped ( cheated and noticed Marianne had that one as I was looking through pics (so big question was there laundry soap in Marianne's bag? and did Barbie pack the washer to wash a bit of clothes while you were all together? Or perhaps the napkins when you were done eating) ha ha.....onwards, the little red purse in the middle with yeast poofing/proofing is BN's, then the large beach bag reminds me of Muai-where are the flip flops hanging out, I expected flip flops in the bag and finally the small leather one reminds me of a purse I was gifted from Mexico-so that one I am guessing is Patty Cakes. So? how'd I do LOL, thanks Nana, that was fun.
Sep. 18, 2011 12:12 pm
redneck gramma......the purse photo was ALL for you. Could you hear your ears burning? We got the biggest kick out of testing your purse detective instincts :)
Sep. 18, 2011 12:13 pm
DAM@ RNG you are pretty good! Your purple nurple would have completed the ensemble to a T!! Lol. Btw, RedNeck I am getting a new nylon red tote with 4 outside pockets( one with a flap) next week from Avon. The the make up folks, not our sweet Annie. I got it for $14.00! Can't wait! That quite a group we have there, I tell you what! There is no shortage of things to talk about with everyone. From moving to smarmmy, creepy thugs in your neighborhood, to when the Heck is that Winco going to open up so we can SHOP TILL WE DROP!!!! LOL The photos are just the Best part. Mariannes Loves to get real close and her or BN are trying to get the other one in a photo with someone else! Cracks me Up. :):) I am a better person b\c of these women I am proud to call Friend! Bless each and everyone of you. Lots of love and hugs sent too!
Sep. 18, 2011 12:16 pm
Btw, I will show iff the new bag when I get it, so pay attention RGN! Toward the end of the week. Ok? I am not much of a shoe horse but love a cute and Usefull bag. Needs to have lots of pockets in or out. Adios Amigas
Sep. 18, 2011 12:19 pm
LOL - RNG. Barb's is far left - yep it is large and she just might have a washing machine in there- I bet she at least has a Tide Stick and carries a walking pharmacy. Mauigirl's is the red bag on the right. Mine is the darker red bag in the front. Noemi has the big yellow bag. Marianne's free for all purse is indeed capable of carrying laundry soap or at least the recipe for it. The AR bag is mine - brought along to haul home all the goodies. Hey! Who has the zebra print?
Sep. 18, 2011 12:23 pm
I think Keri has the zebra print. I had to cheat and go look at the pics.
Sep. 18, 2011 12:27 pm
The animal (giraffe) print was Keri's, I believe. Hmmmmm . . . I wonder how RNG knew mine was the "luggage" on the left (= [Has to be giant to carry all my supplies (= but you know who to come to when you need ANYthing (=]
Sep. 18, 2011 12:37 pm
I added the links to LindaT's cookie recipes that Cathy made. :)
Sep. 18, 2011 12:51 pm
I forgot - for as huge as Cathy's personality is - she carries a dainty purse with a long strap to free up both arms for all the hugs!
Sep. 18, 2011 1:03 pm
I liked the animal print one. Should have made a trade. Looks way more Vegas than what I carry :)
Sep. 18, 2011 1:57 pm
Well mauigirl now you have an excus to go shopping! Lol
Sep. 18, 2011 2:55 pm
There was talk about where to get ammonium carbonate yesterday [besides from MarieC (=] This is what LindaT says: "Ammonium carbonate is available at a good German or Scandanavian deli or even online."
Sep. 18, 2011 2:57 pm
I like your red purse (= Of course, I like the giraffe print, too . . .
Sep. 18, 2011 3:04 pm
Awww. Just when I needed a little cheering up, then found this Blog. What an excellent group of ladies and even the ones who could not be physically present actually were “there” in spirit (Trishie, Lady Sparkle, LindaT, Redneck Gramma, and anybody else who wanted to make it but couldn’t!). I think it is very cool that Patti brought Tina and Keri brought her beautiful Mum. In fact, ALL these ladies look just GREAT. I would have probably just worn jeans and sneakers and hoped my hair did not frizz [lol], but you all dressed so pretty. BTW, when I “CLICK” onto the PHOTOS TWICE, they become humongous and give an even closer view. The photos turned out really nice! After enlarging the photos, I even see an orange AR cloth bag hanging from that big witch’s black kettle! LOL ~ THANKS a million for sharing, and will hope to hear/see more. Some day, I would just love to attend a couple of those AR reunions. Glad you had good weather. You are all great cooks, I get so many recipes and inspiration from you all, and it is great to put a face to the name(s)! No guys this time?… Then, you should have all also gone for pedicures! Hahahaha. Thanks for making my day ladies! Sweetness times eleven! (WHO took the photo?)
Sep. 18, 2011 3:34 pm
SuesCooking Today - I don't know where you live but get yourself to one of these gatherings! A very sweet young lady from North Woods named Nicole took the group shot. I took the rest of the pictures you see here. No guys this time - they wouldn't have got a word in edge wise anyway!
Sep. 18, 2011 3:44 pm
I want to sneak a peek into XrayBarb's purse. Maybe a little pickpocket activity. Sounds like some good treats in there. Glad everybody had a good time!!
Sep. 18, 2011 3:48 pm
Magnolia - you can be sure to find jerky and granola bars! Who knows what else! Wish you were with us. We sure thought of you!
Sep. 18, 2011 3:54 pm
I just added a little addendum to the blog. I didn't want it to get lost in the comments because it is important and comes straight from my heart. :)
Sep. 18, 2011 4:21 pm
BN, BRAVO!! ENCORE!! I feel the very same way about AR and all my friends here. What a blessing!! I became a "rich" woman overnight when I landed here. My thanks to all of you. I love you dearly. XOXOXOXO
Sep. 18, 2011 4:58 pm
Wow! It is like being there reading the comments! Dang these roundups are so addictive. Mauigirl, I had to settle for a chocolate bar after seeing the cookies. I didn't even guess at the purses but I loved them!
Sep. 18, 2011 5:22 pm
Baking Nana, I am SO glad you were able to make it! This was planned now because you will be busy moving next month - but you are busy getting ready now. Thank you for taking the time to come "play!" You bring us joy!
Sep. 18, 2011 5:30 pm
Barb - these "hen parties" are a highlight to a rather mundane life - I would not have missed this for the world. Thank you for getting it going! I can't wait to meet Tom at his Farm in November!
Sep. 18, 2011 5:33 pm
Okay, Magnolia Blossom (= Here's a short list, from my mind - not actually going through my purse: my "walking pharmacy" - ibuprofen, Tylenol, Excedrine, Benedryl, Claritin, Sudafed, Neosporin (for you), Bacitracin (for me) - bandaids, in assorted sizes and designs (ie Winnie-the-Pooh and Spiderman), just about whatever feminine needs you may have, assorted gum, mints, assorted Crystal Lite, Mint Green and decaf tea bags. My wallet - which I don't ever use. I now carry my camera in there - for what it's worth - so I have it when I want it. There are a couple professional magazines right now. And a crocheted dish cloth (= and three cookbooks that were gifted to me (= And I need to replenish my snack cache. All I have is a couple pieces of Pull-N-Peel Watermelon Twizzlers. Normally I also have any of the following: beef jerky, granola bars, snack size packages of assorted kinds of nuts . . . I used to carry a copy of my custody and divorce papers, but don't need those with me anymore (= It's not usually packed full (believe it or not!), because I like being able to throw in my book or a bottle of water. I have hand sanitizer hanging from the strap. Oh! my keys and my sunglasses (= [That's the short list (=]
Sep. 18, 2011 5:34 pm
LOL! No wonder my purse looks like a piece of luggage (=
Sep. 18, 2011 5:36 pm
We will have to get a pic of us all with "Chef Tom!" I can see the looks on everyone else's faces now =D I mentioned to Marianne this morning the third outing we're talking about - a trip to the Cal Poly restaurant and then the Farm Store. We'll have to do that after the holidays (=
Sep. 18, 2011 7:14 pm
Me ears were not burning, but thank you so much for thinking of me:D. Nana, that is not fair for you to bring the orange bag from home, you did not mention any twofers in the mix. Now that I look back at the pics I see Maui's bag in several pics, did not notice it the first time through, all I was seeing was a great smile.
Sep. 18, 2011 7:34 pm
...and the cauldron in the background, I need one of those to make apple juice and tomato sauce, it would be perfect. I have a pot that holds about 24 quarts, but that pot would be better.
Sep. 18, 2011 8:11 pm
Back to check in before bed. Tears after I read all the additions and Baking Nana's addendum. Like BN, I love you ladies and you make my life richer for it. XO and bedtime in Vegas.......night night all zzzzzzz.
Sep. 18, 2011 8:25 pm
Nighters - Mauigirl! Hope you sleep well!
Sep. 18, 2011 8:29 pm
RNG - if your ears were not burning they should have been! Sorry about the two-fer RNG - I just thought that no picture would be complete without an AR orange bag. I should have disclosed that piece of information. You did an amazing job of "identifying" all of our bags. As much as I love my trusty red purse - I am bringing a new one to the next gathering.....just to throw you off my trail. :)
Sep. 18, 2011 8:29 pm
Oh, what a lovely blog, sounds like laughter and tears were the order of the day. You all put me in such a cookie mood. Luckily The Lovely Stacey brought some GF oatmeal gooey things she found at Publix. I want to go to the Fl meeting, what fun I'll miss! Sadly, I've got to be in SC next weekend. Well, maybe next time (sigh)
Sep. 18, 2011 9:04 pm
Darn- Lucy! Gderr and Cindy will miss you for sure, You REALLY have to get to one of these. It is heart warming, for sure!
Sep. 19, 2011 8:57 am
So glad you all had a good time! I'm so sorry I missed it. I well up with tears when I see all the hugs. Wish I could have been there! I'm trying really hard to make the Nov 12th but I believe we're moving (for the last time, thank goodness) that weekend! I'm responding to the cookie decorating now! :)
Sep. 19, 2011 8:59 am
Geez, xraybarb. LOLOLOL! How do you manage to carry that around? I know who I want to go on a roadtrip with, whatever I forgot to pack you should have! LOL!
Sep. 19, 2011 9:02 am
I had SUCH a great time!! I'm SO glad my mom decided to go with me, too. She was hesitant, because she's not "into" food, recipes, and such, but I told her we talk about tons of other stuff, too, and just have a great time visiting. On our way home, she told me she really enjoyed meeting the ladies and she can see why I love spending time with you all! Redneck Gramma got my purse right! It's actually a giraffe print, because giraffes are my favorite animals. It was a gift from two of my friends here at work as a going-away gift when I transferred to a different department and I just love it. Now to look forward to Tom's Farms in November!!!
Sep. 19, 2011 9:06 am
I hit "Post" too soon! I meant to say thank you so much to Cathy and Marianne for the fantastic cookies! Believe it or not, some of them did make it home to be shared with my fiancee and my daughters LOL! And thank you to Julie for the amazing-smelling pork rub! I can't WAIT to get a pork roast and try it out!! And last, but definitely NOT least, a great big thank you to Lady Sparkle for my newest dishcloth! I have four of them now and I love every single one :)
Sep. 19, 2011 9:36 am
Baking Nana...your addendum is so beautiful and conveys what Gabriela and I were talking about on our way home from Northwoods. I had a hectic morning and got such a late start, and then we hit major traffic. I would have been so easy to just say forget it and not go. But I didn't have anyone's number with me to call and cancel and boy am I so glad I didn't. Meeting up with all of you brings me so much joy too and I am always soooooo happy that I went to each gathering. No one would ever know that we all met online. We are all richly blessed!! :)
Sep. 19, 2011 9:51 am
Looks like you gals had WAY too much fun! Maybe one of these days I can hook up with you all! Until then, these blogs are so much fun to read!

OK - Noemi and I have already been plotting and planning the December gathering! COOKIES! December 3rd - please join us if you can!
Sep. 19, 2011 9:02 pm
(I will be there for the company!!! BUT, I am outspoken about the fact that this is not my area - and I will be honest and admit that I can feel my anxiety level going up at the thought of all those blank little canvases! Can my Christmas sugar cookies look like little Picasos?)
Sep. 19, 2011 9:07 pm
Barb - they certainly can! They can look any way you want them to! None of us are experts! That is the fun part of this.
Sep. 19, 2011 9:27 pm
(= Thank you!
Sep. 20, 2011 5:29 am
xraybarb, I love Picasso's work. Your creations may be the coolest cookie yet!. BTW I am so HAPPY that Noemi came up with this idea :) Thanks Noemi and Baking Nana for hosting XO

xraybarb - do you have any shoulder or back problems? What a load! My purse gets too heavy when I have too much change thrown in the bottom.

Magnolia Blossom - Barb walks amazingly straight considering the "load of luggage" she carries. :) Love you Barb!

Magnolia Blossom - not really. Some days my shoulder may ache a bit, but I change sides - or drop it to my hand. Funny thing is I tend to leave it in my car a lot if I'm just running in somewhere - or even going to the grocery store. I joke about having been a boy scout in another life - I like having what I (or someone else) might need. (Many years ago, I carried a little, tiny fanny pack - I didn't wear it, I threw it over my shoulder. I can't imagine carrying something that samll anymore.!) Big purse and big sunglasses!

I was just thinking, Barbie needs wheels for her purse, then she could add a few more things in there;)
Sep. 21, 2011 10:42 am
lol - I have a "wrap" that we call a blanket (it's the best thing to take when you are flying!!!!!), that I have been known to throw in there. If we put wheels on it and made it just a bit bigger, I could throw a real (small) blanket and maybe a neck pillow in there (= Hmmmmm . . . not you got me thinking =D

. . . and maybe the kitchen sink =D

Sep. 21, 2011 11:32 am ....I was thinking something like this, you could wrap some fabric around it, and change the fabric with the season. A bit of velcro would make easy changes of colour.

About Me
Every morning my granddaughter calls and says, "Good morning Nana. Whatcha doing? Are you baking Nana?" Hence my name, Baking Nana. I love to bake bread and never get tired of it. Yeast is additive!
My favorite things to cook
I go through phases, Asian for a while then Italian then on to something else. I love experimenting with new flavors and different spices. Some times my husband will ask if we will ever have "ordinary" food again. Once in a while I have to toss him a burger just to keep quite! Actually, he is a good sport and my favorite taste tester.
My favorite family cooking traditions
In our family if it is your birthday you get to choose the menu. We have had some really interesting meals. In March we have 5 birthdays so we do one big party - what a crazy menu that is! Christmas dinner is very traditional. Sausage rolls, Prime Rib, Yorkshire Pudding, gravy, Green beans with bacon, Mashed Potatoes (the really fattening kind) and trifle for dessert. If I were to dare to omit any of those items I would be lynched.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering really great bread is probably my biggest triumph. I am always so pleased when I create a perfect Asian dish.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few but none so horrible that I can't laugh about them now.
