Our house has continued to be like a busy B & B this summer, with more guests last week and on the weekend. As I was planning the food, I knew I had to make grilled vegetables for our nephew and his wife who were flying in from North Carolina. It's
their favorite food when they're here.
MORE
I'm a retired school administrator -- now teaching parttime at the university. I love cooking (of course) travel, reading, gardening, charity work, - and most of all -- ballroom and Argentine tango dancing. I've been to Buenos Aires several times to study. My husband, two cats (Charlie and Mikey) and I live in a lovely suburban New Jersey town.
My favorite things to cook
Desserts. I'd like to leave the rest of the cooking to someone else and just bake desserts, but that's not to be. I enjoy summer cooking because of all of the fabulous New Jersey produce we have available. Peach and blueberry pies, tomato and corn recipes, grilled vegetables, salads, chilled soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cream puffs topped with swirls of chocolate for birthdays and Christmas. Paperbag apple pies for Thanksgiving. Big bowls of bouillabaise, paella, and Pennsylvania Dutch slippery potpie. Freezing corn and peaches for the winter.
My cooking triumphs
I mastered my mother-in-law's silky cream puff filling, my grandmother's chocolate chip chiffon cake, corn fritters and ...well, I won first prize in the local chili bake-off.
