Grandma's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2014
Tried to stay as close to recipe but had to adjust for gluten-free and onion allergy. Used total of 3 cans sweet corn, mashing 1 cup in food processor. Used 12oz. & 5oz. cans of evaporated milk, no half & half on hand. After potatoes were tender brought to boiling and added 2 Tbsp. corn starch dissolved in 1/4 cup water (because creamed corn could not be used.) When thickened, removed from heat and stirred in warmed milk. Received rave reviews from everyone who tried it. SIL had introduced me to corn chowder & was surprised at how much better this recipe was than her's. Thanks for such a great recipe.

Cheesy Sausage Zucchini Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2013
This dish is wonderful. Made this twice in 3 days at the request of my husband. Had hoped to freeze leftovers but there weren't any and there are only the 2 of us eating it! Only changes were using equal amounts of mozzarella and cheddar rather than processed cheese, upped the amount of rice and no onion (allergic). Must stock up on zucchini so that it can be made during the winter months. A new comfort food. Thank you so much for this recipe.

Chicken Marsala

Reviewed: May 22, 2013
Always looking for something different we tried this. Not very knowledgeable about wines we used "Sweet Red Bella Bolle'" which we had on hand, also didn't have cooking sherry just upped the amount of Bella. Don't know how much this differs from a marsala, but it doesn't matter, this dish was wonderful. I feel certain that the substitution changed the flavor but really appreciate this posting. Would never have attempted making this without the guide of this recipe. Will certainly make this again. Thank you so much!

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: May 22, 2013
Love Brussels Sprouts, love this recipe. Tried this using slightly thawed frozen sprouts (always have in freezer) and everyone really enjoyed them. Have roasted fresh asparagus many times and never thought about doing the same with Brussels Sprouts. Will be making these again and again. Thanks for the recipe.

Grandmother's Pound Cake II

Reviewed: May 9, 2013
Was excited yet nervous about trying this recipe, pound cake is one of my favorites but haven't been able to have since becoming gluten sensitive. Most gluten free flour mixed just don't match up in texture to regular flour. However, have begun using "Cup4Cup" brand gluten-free flour. Reduced this recipe by half so that if it didn't work well I wouldn't have wasted the full amount of ingredients. Well that was a mistake! This recipe is absolutely outstanding. I was stunned that the flavor and texture were perfect. Honey & Sister were also amazed at how good it was. Will be making this as often as my diet will allow but will make a full recipe. Thank you so much for a wonderful recipe!!!

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 9, 2013
We really enjoyed these pork chops. Salted chops individually then added sage and pepper. Browned in equal parts butter and olive oil. Used beef flavored "Better than Bouillon" (it's gluten-free). After removing the chops thickened the sauce with cornstarch/water mix. The sauce became a wonderful gravy to pour over the chops and would be outstanding over mashed potatoes (trying to stay low-carb so no potatoes for now). Sweetheart had left-over pork chop with eggs for breakfast and said it was better than at dinner last night. We will definitely be making these again. Thanks so much for a wonderful new way to make pork chops.

Blue Cheese Dip II

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
Saw this recipe and thought it would go well with the Baked Chicken Wings from this site. Not a fan of blue cheese, thought others would enjoy it. Used gluten-free "Spectrum Organic Mayonnaise". Made this the day before to let flavors meld. Surprisingly, I was the one who could not get enough. Really enjoyed with celery sticks as well as with wings. Thanks for a good, good recipe!

Ham, Potato, and Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
New comfort dish! Halved the recipe. Used what was available, 2 cans "Rico's Cheddar Cheese", ham steak diced, half an onion and 1/3 cup potato flakes to thicken. Will be adding in broccoli to left-overs for tonight.

Steak on a Stick

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2013
Loved this recipe. Made this for small wedding reception, everyone loved this. Used sirloin, more economical than flank. Didn't have molasses, used several tablespoons of brown sugar until taste was balanced. Used equal amount of "Bragg Liquid Aminos", a gluten-free sub for Soy Sauce. Let marinate 24 hours then grilled. Wished we had made more. Thanks for a wonderful new easy recipe.
