About this Cook
Hello to allrecipe cooks! My mame is Kim. I am delighted to have found AllRecipes! I look forward to trying new recipes and sharing some of my own. I've been cooking since I was 11, as my mother decided not to take on the role as wife and mother when I was 5. Some of my fondest memories are of being in, not only my own kitchen, but in the kitchen of several wonderful cooks. My ex-mother-in-law must receive much of the credit for what I know about cooking. She loved sharing her knowledge about food with others. I have a wonderful husband, 2 daughters, 1 son-in-law, and 6 grandchildren. Each love to eat my cooking. My goal for 2010 is to eat healthier, and to encourage that for my family. I plan on preparing dishes that are, not only light in calories and fat, but that contain 6 ingredients or less. This will hopefully help on the budget in these trying times.
My favorite things to cook
I love trying new things! Some of my favorite things to prepare are chilis and stews during cool weather, and refreshing deserts and drinks in the warm weather. I also love foods prepared on a charcoal grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving and Christmas make for wonderful family time in the kitchen. Great conversation and lot's of hands on takes place. We are always coming up with ways to use the leftovers. On Christmas Eve, we prepare & eat party foods, sit by the fire with eggnog, and read the Christmas story from the Bible. Turkey is prepared every Thanksgiving and ham every Christmas.
My cooking triumphs
A triumph in the kitchen to me is when someone merely says, "uumm, this tastes great", and they ask for seconds.
My cooking tragedies
The only tragedy that comes to mind is scorching beans when my girls were young. I had to throw out the beans and the pot.

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze
YES!! I didn't have apricot preserves...so I use raspberry instead. Delicious!! Also, I baked the tenderloin in the oven instead of cooking it on the grill. Very tender and juicy!! The glaze was amazing!!
