About this Cook
I like to use locally grown food as much as possible and adapt recipes to fit what I have on hand. My kids are fairly adventurous eaters and constructive critics.
My favorite things to cook
Soups, stews, campfire cooking, cookies
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade birthday treats first thing in the morning, Malian and Jewish food, Thanksgiving at our house.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving dinner that was 99% local, colorful, unfussy and everything tasted good.
My cooking tragedies
I'm a kitchen klutz! I cut my fingers, grate my knuckles, whack my head on cupboard doors, spill pots of boiling beans on my arms, forget to use potholders when taking things out of the oven.....

Irish Soda Bread in a Skillet
I have used another Irish soda bread recipe for years, which contains butter. I tried this one for the first time yesterday and loved it--it's better than the one with butter. I used white whole wheat flour and added 1Tbsp caraway seeds and 1 cup of raisins. Easy to make, easy to clean up, great texture and very sliceable.

Slow Cooker Adobo Chicken with Bok Choy
I tried this for the first time tonight. Stuck to the recipe except that I cooked it on high for 4 hours instead of low for 8 hours. It turned out great--so easy to make, delicious with rice. The kids loved it.

Asian Ginger Dressing
I subsituted sesame oil for about 1/3 of the olive oil, and used less water. Great on cabbage/broccoli slaw.
