A medical professional by trade for the last 27 years. Immigrated to the USA 16 years ago. Enjoy learning new fast recipes that look and taste gourmet. I have been experimenting with Rachel Ray 30 minutes recipes in the last few months and now that the kids are out of the house get to spend time with my wife working on those new flavors and imparting the family acidity we enjoy to all of them
My favorite things to cook
Slow Cooking meats. Stir fry for the fast results. Nothing beats my two day process sourdough bread. I love making fresh loaves every few days.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Guatemalan Tamales (I have not become that adventurous yet! but soon)
My cooking triumphs
Until 5 years ago, I was sure I would never be able to cook anything but pancakes and waffles (daddy's specialty on Saturday morning for the family breakfast)
My cooking tragedies
One time making a Guatemalan Drunken cake, the recipe called for "una copa de ron" (One cup of rhum) But when finished my wife complained it was to strong. Weird, nobody complained at the clinic when I took the whole cake to be consumed there since my wife didn't like the strengh. Providers and nurses were happy but a little sleepy after lunch. Later, I realized that the "copa" the recipe called for, was "a one OZ shot cup". No wonder people were so happy after lunch!!!
