I've made this a few times but with a couple of changes, listed here in order of importance. First and foremost, add a can of diced green chiles (drained) with the tomatoes, and a layer of CREAM STYLE CORN on top of the main (meat) layer. Secondly, if I'm in a hurry I skip the beef and just mix a can of chili with a can of beans (black, pinto, refried, whatevs) for the main layer. And finally, save some of the sour cream to make three or four big globs on top, and stick a tortilla chip poking out of each one -- this is a worthwhile aesthetic improvement especially if you can get the sour cream globs to brown a tiny bit on the top with the broiler.
