Christmas-2009

This Christmas at our home was bittersweet. Just a few months ago, my beloved sister passed away. During our life, she had been more of a mother than a sister as she was 20 years older than me. She was a wonderful example of a mother, a wife and a good friend. And could that woman cook! She had five childeren and both her girls are good cooks, having been taught by her. We always make her honey bun cake for my daughter's birthday.
The "sweet" part came when our daughter's doctor told us she was cancer free! We needed no other Christmas present this year.
I hope all of you had as wonderful a Christmas as we did.
Here's to good cookin' in 2010.

Sandra - so sorry for your loss. I almost lost my only sister this year to MRSA. It would have torn a gaping hole in my life. Your sister sounds wonderful. Is her honey bun cake recipe on AR? Praise God for good news about your daughter. I'm reminded of the words of Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol - "Life is made up of meetings and partings. That is the way of it." Let's hope for a blessed 2010!

Wow, your post brought tears to my eyes. I was 20 when my sister was born, I'm praying she remembers me with such great memories! And, what wonderful news about your daughter!

Sorry that I have been so remiss in posting anything lately. Our life is good, but much as all the rest of you, I am trying to make our money go further. But I still cook and bake and that makes me happy. ( also my friends and family!) Our daughter is still cancer-free. I'll look for the honey bun cake recipe and post it as soon as possible. BUT today I'm making slaw and chili for my husband's family's annual cook-out....about 40 folks so I won't get to it today. But I will get it and post it. Kat would have loved to share it with all of you.
