Boscobel Beach Ginger Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
I did not enjoy the spice combinations in this cake at all. I LOVE gingerbread, but this is not gingerbread. The ginger is way too strong and not sweet enough to balance it out. Definitely not worth the effort.

Beef Tenderloin with Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2010
Maybe I did something wrong, but I followed it exactly as described. It took WAYYYYYY longer to cook. I cooked it for 1 hour and 45 minutes and it was still rare in the middle and med rare on the ends. Maybe my tenderloin was especially thick. Also, I did not even taste the marinade, nor did I have enough of it to baste the roast while it was cooking. I did not make the potatoes, so I can not comment on those. The meat still tasted fine (once it was cooked) but I beleive it was more becasue tenderloin is a good cut of beef and not because of this recipe or marinade. Have made better beef tenderloin with other recipes from this site.

The Best Vegetarian Chili in the World

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
This IS the absolutely best chili - vegetarian or otherwise - in the world!!! I'm not a huge fan of chili in the first place, but this recipe is a MUST try! My whole family love it - got requests for the recipe, etc. I omited the jalapeno peppers and cut the chili poweder amount in 1/2 because my kids don't like anything too spicy and it was delicious. I can NOT wait to make it again. You would never know it was vegetarian. I'm not vegetarian and I loved it. Served it with cheddar cheese and whole whar tortilla chips - excellent!!! UPDATE - I am making this again and I am using cans of crushed tomatoes and it is not as good as the 1st time I meade it in which I used cans of peeled whole tomatoes that I sliced with a knife while they were still in the can. So, just a thought...maybe the cans of whole peeled tomatoes that are sliced yourself are better than the cans of crushed tomatoes. The cans of crushed tomatoes make the chili MUCH thicker and less tomatoe-y. Your call on how you like it best.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2009
I have been using this site for a few years, but I've never commented or rated a recipe until now. These cookies were absolutely delicious. I made them for a holiday party and they were the biggest hit. I made the batter exactly as the recipe states and, at the suggestion of other, froze the batter for 45 minutes. I used a samll scooper to scoop the dough and drop it directly into the confectioners sugar. It is a waste of time to try to handle the dough with your fingers. I I suggest HEAVILY coating the cookies with the confectioners sugar before placing them on a greased cookie sheet. Yes, you MUST grease it. I cooked 1 sheet at a time on the top rack of the oven to get them to look crinkled and they did. I will most definitely be making these little bites of heavenly chocolate brownie-like gems again. You will NOT be disappointed.
