Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
this recipe really isn't that great. First of all, the directions are wrong, it states that you should heat the liquids until very hot and that is false. the liquids should only be heated until lukewarm or else it will kill the yeast right away. Next, it needs more rising time. An additional hour before you shape them into balls is a good idea. Against my better judgement I made this following the instructions, I guess that's what happens when it's hot out and I try to cook.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
Very good indeed, I substituted probably 3/4 cup boiling water with hot coffee and it turned into an intensely dark, chocolate, coffee flavored cake! I used a caramel frosting and topped it off with ganache. Great recipe.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

wonderful! If you love pumpkin then you'll love these. I basically doubled all the spices and it was great, for my taste anyway. Good recipe, I'll be making these more often

Red Velvet Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2010
This recipe is simply wonderful!! You must be absolutely careful about taking it out just before the toothpick comes out clean, maybe a little crumbs still left on. My cake came out beautiful, but I could see that it was starting to dry out so it's definitely the kind of cake you must be careful with. And the Frosting.. GORGEOUS! I beat it for at least 10 minutes before adding the milk/flour mixture and it's so smooth and delicious, not to sweet. Best when put in the fridge and then taken out 30 minutes before serving so the frosting is soft, but just as good if eaten directly out of the fridge. Basically a great cake, one I'll make again for sure.

Coconut Macaroon Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
I enjoyed this dessert but the brownie part just wasn't that good, I found it a little dry and cakey. Needless to say, it crumbled when cutting it up. I don't think I'll make it again unless I use a different recipe for the brownie part. And instead of giving it 5 stars after making so many changes we should start reviewing the recipe itself! Just food for thought

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
I really enjoyed this recipe, although I may have used too much baking powder which caused it to rise super high.. Other than that the taste was amazing!! Thumbs up

Baklava

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
This recipe is awesome! The only changes I made were that I added half recipe to the sauce which some people recommended doing. So that's 1 1/2 times the honey sauce. I also made the sauce before I did anything else and put in the fridge until the baklava was done, made it super crispy and amazing! All around good recipe, the instructions are just a little confusing, you should butter every single layer with about 6-8 sheets on bottom and top with nut layers in between. Hope that helps!

Extreme Banana Nut Bread 'EBNB'

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
This banana bread was very tasty, I added just slightly more than 2 cups banana's. And oddly enough, I only made one loaf with this recipe, one normal sized loaf. So I wouldn't say that it makes two unless they're really tiny. OH and I did a little research amd found that baking soda shouldn't be used in recipes that require long bake times because the chemical reaction that occurs when you use b. soda happens immediately after you add it so it must be cooked quickly. That could be why some people report unleavened breads. At the same time that could be what helps the density of this bread, i would add that extra tsp of baking powder, or even substitute one tsp of soda for powder.

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
I'm not sure how good this recipe is because I made all the suggested changes, used 3/4 c. buttermilk, extra 1/2 c. blueberries and only half the topping which really was enough. I also used a springform pan which makes way more sense then putting topping on top of the cake in a bundt pan and then flipping it upside down. So the recipe was good, it just needs some fine tuning.

Gramma's Date Squares

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
I love this, I made the recipe exactly like it said except i didn't do a thing to my dates. I bought them in a sqare pkg so once they came apart and cooked down I was pleased with the little hunks of dates. Anyway, I suppose omitting sugar is a good idea since it iss really sweet. I'll definitely try that next time.
