Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2012
This is the whole wheat sandwich bread you have been looking for! I have made many whole wheat breads over the years in my breadmaker, committed to making as many of my own foods as possible. They were good, but never like this. This is the soft, spongy, hearty whole wheat sandwich bread that you buy at the store. I only made 3 small changes. I added 3 T vital wheat gluten, used butter instead of shortening, and used the basic or the white setting instead of whole wheat. The bad thing is I can't tell you how long it lasts (although honey is a natural preservative) because it doesn't last long enough in my house to tell. I've made 3 loaves already this week and given the recipe to 2 friends who love it!

Real Strawberry Cupcakes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2010
These were AWFUL. Like another reviewer said, they tasted like muffins. They were not sweet like a cupcake and were very dense like a muffin. I am glad there was plenty of food at the party I went to so few peopled tried these because when I did I was so embarrassed. I followed recipe exactly except no lemon zest and used applesauce instead of oil.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2010
This was pure comfort food on a rainy fall evening. The only changes i made was substituted some wine instead of water, low sodium beef broth instead of bouillon, and used about 5x the amount of cornstarch to make it thicker. My boyfriend loved it and said it tasted just like his mom's.

Stuffed Strawberries

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2010
This sounded perfect for a 4th of July party I was attending but the stuffing was so soupy it seeped out everywhere. I even tried coring the strawberries and propping them up but the filling was so liquidy it poured right out. One star because the flavor and idea were great, but a 0 for feasibility.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2010
Delicious! I used 2 cups whole wheat flour, next time I will do all whole wheat flour. I decreased the sugar by 1/2 cup and used 1/2 cup brown sugar. I also used half unsweetened applesauce for the oil, and added a 1/4 tsp nutmeg. I made one loaf and since I didnt have 2 loaf pans I made a dozen muffins with the rest. (I cooked them at same temperature and they were done after 20-22 minutes.) This will be my zucchini bread recipe. Thank you!

Ham and Cheese Bowties

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2010
Very good. I added broccoli and red pepper and I think that and the ham gave this dish an excellent flavor. After stirring it all together my boyfriend and I decided not to bake it as a casserole. It was already hot and looked delicious.

Gnocchi II

Absolutely delicious! After reading the reviews I used 6 red potatoes and 2 cups flour. It was a perfect dough. I made them for my boyfriend for his birthday and they melted in our mouths. These are a keeper!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
Delicious! No more searching. This is the pancake recipe I was looking for! I added just 1/4 cup milk (to make 1 cup) and drop or two more of vinegar because I wanted to make sure it wasnt too too thick. The consistency was perfect. The batch served my boyfriend and I comfortably.

Maple Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
Not too impressed. I thought these would be great. I love shortbread, but they were not sweet at all and I could hardly tasted the maple syrup.

Tasty Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
Good sauce but I will change some things if I make again. I cut the spices in half which left a nice flavorful sauce, but something was too strong, maybe thyme or marjoram, will do less of each next time. I added tablespoon of sugar at the end, but may add 2 next time. I also added 1/2 cup wine. Was perfect consistency. Definitely not a sweet sauce.

Fluffy Hot Chocolate

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
Delicious! I am enjoying this right now. In fact it tasted so good while i was taste-testing it in the pan that i rushed it into my cup and forgot the vanilla! I had no marshmallows so i cut the recipe in half and used a large scoop of fluff. And then another in my mug! Mmmm!

Ginny's Cheezy Macaroni

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
I dont know what went wrong, but this turned out soupy (Had to use a slotted spoon to scoop it out) and with curdled milk. It was still edible so I gave it 2 stars, but I followed the directions exactly and was very disappointed.

Chicken Flautas

Very good. I eyeballed everything and just added picante sauce, mexican blend of cheese to chicken pieces. Put in whole wheat wraps and brushed with olive oil. Put in oven at 425 and we wolfed them down.

BAKER'S Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
Absolutely delicious! I have made them twice already because the first batch went so fast at my work function I didn't get any! The second batch is already gone after my boyfriend and I finished them and I gave a couple to those who wished they had more of the first batch. YUM! I used chocolate and pb chips and used half whole wheat flour with white and applesauce in place of half the butter in second batch. Tasted the same.

Slow Cooker Vegetable Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
Very good, but not quite a chili. I added about 1 1/2 cups chicken broth because there was no liquid at all. Had a delicious flavor with all the veggies, but a bit more like a hearty vegetable soup.

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
These cookies are amazing! My new favorites! I can't believe how moist and flavorful they are. I haven't tried them with the glaze yet, but just iced them so I will shortly. These will definitely be a holiday regular. Thank you!

Ratatouille Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Mmmm I am enjoying this right now and it is wonderful. I made just a few changes though. I needed to make it quick so instead of a casserole, I mixed the cheese into the vegetable mixture and poured that over the ravioli. I also added a bunch of parmesan cheese on top. And it enjoyed it that way instead of baking. It is excellent!

Slow Cooker Chili II

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2009
Very hearty and delicious. I used 1 cup green pepper, 1 cup celery, 1 medium onion, 4 small cloves of garlic, a sweetened red pepper, and extra chili powder since I did not have any hot sauce. Will try with the hot sauce next time. I did not have tomato puree either so I used 2 6oz cans of tomato paste with 3 cans of water. Oh and only 1 can of red kidney beans. Will do 2 next time. It was done after 6 hours in the slow cooker.
