I am a wife and mother, the one responsible for shopping for and cooking the food for my family. I enjoy cooking a lot, but I also like to read, write and spend time with friends. I am an English teacher. All of which makes me sound very, very boring now that I look over what I've written, but I don't think I'm that bad. You would probably like me.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking bread, both yeasted varieties and quick breads. I really enjoy the ease of my slow cooker, not only because using it makes creating a good meal so easy, but also because it is beyond comforting to come in at the end of a long day and smell dinner cooking. I'm a fan of Julia Child and enjoy working with the recipes from her books "Mastering the Art of French Cooking."
My favorite family cooking traditions
Most of my favorite cooking traditions were handed down by my mother and grandmother.
From my mother, I have traditions like baking different varieties of Christmas cookies, big spaghetti dinners and Christmas morning breakfast casserole.
From my grandmother, I have a love of Julia Child and the food she cooked. My incredible recipe for sage-and-onion dressing also comes from my grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
I can make a Julia Child-style roasted chicken that is so delicious, it could make you pass out on the floor after one bite. I also make a mean ragú, and I think I make light, buttery scrambled eggs better than anyone else I know.
My cooking tragedies
There have been too many tragedies to relate. Flat bread, burned sauces, limp vegetables, overcooked pasta, pies that run over in the oven and stick and burn and make the smoke detector go off? I've done all of that, too many times to count.
