Mom's Big Burgers

Well, just like the name says, tonight I made Mom's Big Burgers which my family loved. The recipe was really easy and fast - and the grilled burgers tasted great. However what I think my husband loved most was the fact that I cooked with beef and used the lean burger instead of the extra lean. So the burgers were juicier and fattier than usual.
I must admit that I am always tying to sneak healther versions of foods into my kitchen -- reduced fat oreos, ground turkey, low-sodium soups, lower fat crackers, etc. If my family sees the packaging, they will immediately assume it tastes bad, so I often transfer the product into another container so they won't know. This seems to work most of the time. I'm guessing I am not the only mom that does this. What do you do to sneak healthier food into your families lives? Let me know your tips.

Hi! I too, use ground turkey almost exclusively in all my recipes. I just think it's a little healthier, zs well as more economical. My family will eat just about anything I cook, but I sometimes feel they (we) don't get enough fruits/vegies in our diet. Hello food processor! I puree spinach, chop zucchini, pulse apples, grate carrots, mince paesley etc. I add these foods to my recipes in hopes of making them more healthful. It's gotten to the point that when busy and I do not take the time for this step they ask me why I made my recipe differently. Anyhow, thats my tip, Hope this helps!

About Me
My love for cooking is a result of my passion for eating. Good food can make any day better. My mother is from France so food has always been a focus of conversation, travels and special occasions. I also am the vice president of brand marketing at I have been lucky enough to be part of Allrecipes for 10 years (since the early days). It has been one of the true pleasures of my life. Seeing all of the really great cooking ideas posted to the site everyday is a total joy.
My favorite things to cook
I love just about anything that combines fresh meat, vegetables and spices/herbs. In the summer, I couldn't live without my barbecue. In the winter, I love pastas, soups and fresh breads. I never know what I am going to cook until I go to my local market. I just buy whatever looks good (or is on sale) and figure out what to make when I get home.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Sunday dinners are a tradition I couldn't live without. I find it really relaxing to spend the afternoon cooking a special meal.
My cooking triumphs
Homemade sushi!
My cooking tragedies
It was a few years ago and I was preparing Thanksgiving dinner for my in-laws at our new house. Little did I realize when I put the turkey in to cook, that the oven thermometer was broken so the temperature was 100 degrees or so less than the dial showed. It took HOURS for the turkey to cook. Thankfully, we all had a good laugh rather than panicking and no one got food poisoning from the dinner. My other tragedy is really any sort of baked good. Cakes, cookies, muffins... you name it and I have either undercooked them, burnt them or fouled them up in some other way...
