Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
I threw in some mini chocolate chips (they don't sink in batter like regular ones do), then covered it with ganache after cooling. Delish! They bake up nice and tall, too.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: May 2, 2010
Very good, but I didn't notice it being "exceptionally moist". Nice way to use up buttermilk, though.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2010
Very yummy. More banana flavor than expected. Struesel topping "bakes in" so it doesn't just crumble off when handling. This will be a regular recipe to use up the old bananas.

Green Chile Frittata

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
A little bland. Thank goodness for the green chiles, or it wouldn't have any flavor at all. Texture is good. Maybe this is one to "doctor".

Easy Whipped Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2010
Very yummy and a nice change of pace from regular whipped cream. Tart, yet sweet, plus a creamy and dense texture. This won't replace regular whipped cream, but will be nice to have as an option.

Cinnamon Sour Cream Biscuits

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I printed this recipe years before finally trying it. Wow! did I miss out on one delicious treat. I kept to the recipe as written, with the exception of butter instead of margarine. Yummy. Maybe these biscuits ARE better with more cinnamon and sugar, like others suggested, but they're pretty darn good as written, too. Great for breakfast, after-school snack, late night treat--anytime. Thanks for sharing!

Jeweled Thumbprints

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2010
A good cookie that holds its shape well during baking. I did have to "re-indent" the center, but that was quick and easy enough. I piped ganache through a star-tip into the centers. A good recipe for adding the filling after baking instead of before.

Felix K.'s 'Don't even try to say these aren't the best you've ever eaten, because they are' Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
Instead of regular table salt, use the equivalent amount of kosher salt. That little change takes chocolate chip cookies to a new level.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
Good basic cranberry muffin. i do really like the pecans in there, too---adds a whole new flavor dimension. Toast them first, of course. Yummy!

Smoky Chicken Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I threw the whole thing in the food processor, so it had a more uniform consistency. I also added a few drops of liquid smoke. It was good, but seemed to be lacking something. No complaints, but I didn't love it.

Slow Cooker Cranberry Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
The roast was very good, but the gravy is where it's at! My family wanted to pour it on everything! Like a few other reviewers, I thickened it with cornstarch/cold water, but moved it to a saucepan for that step---didn't want to wait for it to boil in the slow cooker. I will definitely try it using pork, too. Can't beat the ease or preparation either.

Curried Leek Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
This soup has a great flavor, but the consistency is way too thin. I wouldn't call this "hearty". In fact, it's more like an appetizer soup, than a meal soup. By the way, I doubled it and it served six perfectly.

Spaghetti Squash I

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I've always heard that spaghetti squash doesn't "taste like squash", but I didn't believe it. Well, I'm a believer now! A great recipe for which I will ever be grateful for turning me on to an incredible vegetable.

Pro Ganache

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
I used this as a glaze, with beautiful thin lines dripping down the sides of a wedding cake. I found that initially it's too thin, and worked much better when allowed to cool, at room temperature, to just below 80º. Dripped down the sides beautifully! Also, when using chocolate chips (instead of the "good stuff") it's helpful to strain the mixture after it's been gently mixed together, yet before adding the vanilla.

Good basic icing. Not what I use on the wedding cakes I make, but I will use it for cupcakes.

Dee's Roast Pork for Tacos

Like others, I did this in the slow cooker. It was good, and I'd fix it again. Great in Taco Salad the next day, too.

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
Very good cake. I've used it for wedding cake before. Yes, it is a bit dense, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I found that it doesn't freeze too well though. Many other recipes seem more moist after freezing, but this one was definitely drier.

Potato Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
One of our favorite new recipes. So fun and easy. I have a mandoline that makes super-thin slices--essential for good chips. I cook these directly on a sheet of parchment in the microwave--works great.

Fresh Pea Soup

This was good, but I don't know that I'll fix it again. Like others, I used frozen peas. The kids gave it a 4, though.
