Pasta with Kielbasa and Sauerkraut

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
My husband doesn't like the sauerkraut so he picks it out. but he won't let me make this without it cause he knows how much flavor it adds. I did modify this quite a a bit because I didn't have dijon mustard, cayenne pepper, bell pepper or white wine the first time I made it. i followed the instructions otherwise, but added a little vinegar, garlic powder, beef boullion cube, and extra parsley. Some say this didn't have enough flavor that is why I added it, but really it would have probably been fine without the additions. Didn't expect to like this one, but loved it! You may have to experiment with it. I have occasionally added too much vinegar and had to add other spices to fix it (such as sugar, salt, pepper, etc.)

Chili Taco Popcorn

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
The recipe calls for twice as much butter as needed. Because I've done a lot of popcorn recipes I did a little more than half the suggested amount. Otherwise I found this recipe to be a little spicy so be sure to have something sweet or bland to balance it out as you eat it. Or you can put in a little less spice. But otherwise I found this to be a good recipe, but definitely not my favorite. There are many other flavors I enjoy more. Its almost as if it needs a little cheese flavor or other variation added.

Monkey Peanut Butter Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
Frosting was awesome but not enough to cover the pan, you'll have to double that one. Everything else was just average. As others said, the crust didn't taste like peanut butter and was a little too dry. But still edible. Otherwise I agree with those who said there is too much chocolate.

Fudge-Nut Oatmeal Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2011
Not terrible, but definitely not as good as all of the reviews. the chocolate was too soft. would be better if it thickened up. Perhaps I added the milk at the wrong time. Recipe lists ingredient, but not when to add so I assumed you added with the melting butter etc. perhaps you might want to add with the vanilla at the end?

Louisiana Sweet Potato Pancakes

Tasted a like a regular pancake to me. My husband said he could taste the nutmeg a lot, but otherwise it was the same as a regular pancake.

Spritz Orange Crisps

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
This is actually a very good recipe, however I didn't have orange juice so I used lemon juice. I found the dough didn't have a very strong citrus flavor, so I added one more tablespoon of lemon juice (2 total) and then 2 tbsp of lemon extract. This made the flavor much better, but lemon flavored of course. Very much liked. If I had orange I would suspect you will need to add more juice and even extract if you have it.

Dishpan Cookies II

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
These were great. However, I used 1/2 corn flakes and 1/2 rice crispies (because I was low). I also DID NOT put coconut in them. Everyone at work loved these and they were gone quickly! Perfect chewy texture!

Honeydew Blueberry Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
When I first tasted this, it was much like a smoothie. But after first bite it wasn't very good. The flavor is nice, but it is definitely missing something if you are going to eat more than one spoonful. I tried it with oatmeal cookies and even just oatmeal and thought each of those made it worse than alone. I also tried a few cereals and strangely cherrios was the best, but still not great. Granola might work, but I still don't think that will be it. I don't know what it needs, but definitely won't be making this again.

Italian Popcorn

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
I made three different snack mixes tonight and found this to be the best one! I wish I made more. I used Parmesan cheese instead of Romano and actually stirred it in the butter mix instead of adding later. I also used garlic powder instead of garlic salt. Because I had read a few reviews that said it wasn't flavorful enough, I added a little more oregano and basil and even lemon pepper to the mixture. I found five cups of popcorn was a little less than the mixture so I added some small pretzels. You may want to use more popcorn or a little less butter to compensate. Overall I really liked this one and wished I had made more.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
After reading so many great reviews I was convinced this would be a sure fire hit. Rarely do I find a recipe on here with such great reviews that I don't like myself. In fact when there are one or two low marks I typically think the person just made an error. I followed this recipe and double checked it so I am confident it wasn't an error I made. 15-17 minutes seemed long for cookies, but due to the large scoop size I assumed it would be just fine. I checked on them at 13 min and they were burnt. The second batch cooked for less time and they were better, but the flavor wasn't impressive and they weren't fat, they still flattened out. Additionally I wouldn't recommend this recipe if you like eating the dough in between batches. The dough was extremely disappointing.

Yogurt Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
Great recipe. After reading the reviews I was hesitant to try this. The cookies turned out so chewy and stayed chewy. Most of the bad reviews came from changing the ingredients and the few that did not change the recipe and had poor reviews said they preferred a little more flavor. So I added 1/4 c more of each sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon. The cinnamon added flavor, but I think you could get away with not using it. My husband and I ate all of these in two days! They are a little different than a regular chocolate chip cookie, but so very soft, and once you get past the preconceived idea of a typical chocolate chip cookie you will really like these.

Tropical Beef and Noodles

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
Great recipe. Didn't have cashews so I used peanuts. Forgot to drain the grease from the beef, but it still turned out great. I made it with noodles, but I would recommend eating over rice instead of noodles. Very easy to make, as I am not always the greatest at cooking (as you see I forgot to drain) :)

Lots of Chocolate Cherry Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2012
I don't drink coffee and wasn't about to buy some just for this so I didn't add coffee. As strange as it sounds I substituted candy sprinkles for the coffee (the thicker sprinkles). I also added more chocolate chips instead of adding white chocolate chips, and used cranberries instead of cherries. Perfect texture and great flavor.

Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2011
I have to agree that the flavor isn't right. I didn't add wine and did less soy sauce as recommended. its just too sweet and not much "real" flavor. it was still edible, but i added a lot of pepper and other spices to make it better.

Washboard Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
If you read a review about the cookies being unflavorful.... it was RIGHT. They are still ok, but they are just missing something. I added cinnamon in the second batch, which helped, but still not that great. These are they type of cookie that would go well with a cup of tea, but on their own they are pretty bland.

Buttery Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2010
Husband said they were better than his moms! Anyway, like other reviewers said, they don't raise, no matter how long you leave them, but it doesn't matter cause they taste great. My husband wanted them again after we ate a whole pan ourselves. He usually only requests desserts again.

Oat Snack Mix

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2010
This wasn't as good as I hoped, but still pretty good. To be fair, I mistakenly thought I had honey, so I had to substitute with white sugar and karo syrup so it may have been different with honey. Otherwise I used corn flakes and cheerios which i thought worked very well. the corn flakes were especially tasty as they candied up well. I also used a little popcorn as suggested by another user, but found the popcorn didn't work as well so I wouldn't recommend using that. I haven't added cranberries or raisins yet, but will likely do that tomorrow. However even without the berries and raisins it would be just fine.
